So I’ve come to find out that JMFab recirculating O2 housing (for tial 44mm wg) is not a good fit for 68hta w 8cm housing. It actually touches the p/s pump and turbo has to removed to do anything on the timing side. This includes adjusting your p/s belt tension. Long story short, it’s not mentioned anywhere that this O2 housing is for 7cm housing.

Just curious what O2 housing/EWG setup you guys are running w 68hta V2. Pic would be great.

Thanks
Tony

I believe it was made by JM fab. Its an older 2 bolt unit though, not v band like yours.

I know TurboSmart makes a very compact 2 bolt WG ........ I havent compared their vband stuff but they might make an unusually compact vband unit too.

Yes, TurboSmart has some v-band compact models but it doesn't fit with Tial 44mm flanges. TurboSmart 45mm gate is the one fit with Tial 44mm flange.

@tk106
I just re-checked the dimension of Tial 44mm and TurboSmart 45 Gate. It looks like they have the same dimension (both flanges are the same and 55.5mm from the inlet center to the edge of outlet flange and 33.5mm from the outlet center to the edge of inlet flange, like the drawing below). So the TurboSmart 45 gate should fit on the JMF recirculated O2 housing.
And the height of the TS 45 standard pressure gate is very similar to the Tial 44mm, maybe just a couple of millimeters lower. but the top cap diameter is much smaller than the Tial's. It has only 74mm at the widest point. I don't know how much interference you have with the P/S pump but it seems the TS 45 standard gate would give you some more extra room toward the P/S pump.

Turbosmart looks to be about 1/2 inch short which would be prefect.

But looking at these dimensions, I don’t think it’ll work

7cm and their 8cm should be identical flange placement. Have you reached to JMF?

You’re right Steve! 7cm & 8cm are identical as far as external dimensions. I emailed Jim at JMFab. Let’s see what he says

Good news. Jim at JMFab is taking a look at it, so I'll be sending him the O2 housing and my WG.

Also contacted TurboSmart.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. Our 45mm wastegate will work on the 44mm inlet flange however it will not work with the outlet. Our wastegate will come with both inlet and outlet weld flanges so you could always cut off the outlet flange you have and get the Turbosmart one welded on.

I rechecked with a caliper too. Yeah actually about a millimeter different.

II think there was a confusion between you and the TS rep. Check the pic below. A TB45mm gate on O2 housing/dump pipe with original tial 44mm flanges. I measured the TS and Tial original outlet flange's OD, ID and thickness and I see no difference. I am not sure why the TS rep said it won't work.

Oh they look to be identical from that first pic. Yeah idk why either. I sent the housing and wg off to jmf earlier. If they can’t do much, I’ll most likely end up picked up the TS. Thanks Hiroshi!! You da man wit da masta plan ROFL

Yeah if JMF can fix the angle that would be the best:hellyeah: since buying another wastegate won't be that cheap, so. When I had a FP manifold I had a tial 44mm on O2 housing, never had that clearance issue with the P/S pump. But it was atmosphere dumped, not recirculated. and sure you're welcome hahahaROFL.

That’s what Jim said too. Non recirculating has more clearance. So I told him it doesn’t matter to me if it’s to atmosphere or not at this point. Just want to be able to get to the p/s pump without pulling the turbo.

Yeah I think so. My O2 housing flange angle is different from yours.

That angle looks greater than mine and should clear no problem

Looks like the 38mm MV-S is almost 1/2" shorter. I'd assume his fitment was designed around that since it's pretty unusual to run a 44mm on an MHI frame turbine. Maybe just see if he'll swap housings out for you.

It’s specifically made for tial 44mm. Got it so I can go bigger turbo later and not have to buy again. It worked fine with the current set up except lately I couldn’t build boost for some reason. Car has been down for a few months for clutch/trans issues.

You have the option for 38 or 44

I know that, but I was saying when he mocked up fitment he probably did it with the 38. Unless you want to run really low boost on a really big turbo, there's no need for the 44.

Are the vband flanges the same for 38 & 44? Well, I got the 44 and won't be changing it unless I have to. Again, it works fine on my setup.
