Hey all, recently bought a 95 talon with a 1g swapped into it. Starts up but not right away and doesnt have an oil pressure sensor hooked up yet. With this whole pandemic going on I'm on furlough with work so not a lot of money coming in. As much as I want to start buying parts I really cant.

Anyway to the point, I dont have a whole lot of knowledge of the 4g63t platform so I need a little help. I have oil leaking from my timing side I see it drip down during operation from the balancer and my turbo oil feed leaks at the oil pan, I believe the oil feed is from improper install of the feed line to the pan (rtv must be used I think).

I know for a fact this is a 1g, I can send pictures if anyone needs further information. Anyone have better knowledge than I do where these engines tend to leak oil from? And how to properly install the oil feed to the drain pan.

If it's coming from the timing side you have a few of the following options:
- both cam seals
- crank seal
- valve cover gasket
- and to be safe I'd look into the oil filter housing

Once everything is cleaned up you could add some dye to your oil and run it to see the locations.

Also, go and make a DSM profile for your new beast. :)

I've been so lazy LOL, but I dont visibly see oil coming from the cams I know its leaking from the valve cover (which is why I run it without the oil pressure sensor because I know it has pressure just not how much). Its weird where its leaking from.

It's a little worn in but I feel very luck with it having nearly no rust and it is all stock except a 1g swap and ac removed. It even came with the original window sticker! Car has a little history which is very cool. I'll post everything soon. Here is a picture, picked it up from a forum post.

Do you mean the oil return line for the turbo, the flanged shiny tube with a flex piece? I just rebuilt my turbo and had a leak from my turbo oil return line at the oil pan. I just tightened it down some more with the car running until the leak stopped. Only used a new gasket to seal it with.

Yes the return line, I believe it was your thread I was reading. I remember someone saying to put rtv on the threading of the bolts but cant remember correctly.

Paint looks great besides the roof, so that's one less thing you have to do!
The paint definitely needs to be redone at some point. That side is the good side haha, little bit of clear coat missing on the rear driver quarter panel and the twisties need to be shined up a bit. I'm very happy with the purchase, definitely got my hands on a project car I can keep for years to come. Very excited to have it but upset I cant just rip into everything it needs done at the moment haha.

I'm torn between leaving it mainly intact and doing maintenance then building it or just breaking everything down and doing a full tune up on the block, head and everything else. It was garaged for a very long time but was run periodically. Needs new tires, I also got two and a half extra sets of wheels with it. One set is the honeycomb the other is 1g wheels and half of some American racing wheels

When I removed it there was a ton of old RTV on the bolts. So probably correct to do so, I didnt have to add any myself though. You could try to clean the surface inspect the gasket and apply some rtv for a quick fix. Just note a good portion of your oil will drain out when you unbolt it. If you have other leaks depending on how major they may be it might be worth just ordering some gasket sheets and cutting a new gasket out if you dont plan to drive it for a while. If you decided on RTV make sure it's the oil resistant high temperature one. It will have a picture of a oil pan on it.

Dripping that excessively from the timing side sounds like an issue with front case/oil pump cover.

For the turbo drain you need to make sure you have sealant on the bolt threads, a good gasket and proper washers. It also needs to be pretty clean from oil before trying to redo the drain seal.

Often overlooked are the crush washers for the bolts into the oil pan on the return flange. Like all crush washers they are intended to be single use.

Is the engine a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt since 1G's had both types depending one the year.

Sorry I made a mistake saying 1g I meant to say 6 bolt, it doesnt perfectly match the trans from what I could see and on the timing side the oil pan comes out instead of going in like the 7 bolt.

I should also clarify that it is missing the upper timing cover(s), I believe it has the lower one just not the mid/upper cover(s). I'm a little unclear on what to purchase to remedy that issue.

You need to clarify this. Its leaking from the valve cover and that's why you run no pressure sensor?

I bought it the way it is right now, I havent done anything because I havent had the time or money to put into it at the moment. I see oil seeping from the valve cover and from the oil feed line that goes into the oil pan. I also see it drip from the timing belt side behind the balancer almost, I will get a picture/video of it tomorrow. I posted this trying to get better information on where oil leaks happen from the 6 bolt engine so i can narrow down my search and determine if resealing the entire engine should be a priority

Not what I meant. How do you know it has pressure? Because its leaking? If so that is not true.

Will this switch on the right be fine? It does not look the same as the OEM, picked it up from auto shop near me. Threads appear to match, the switch currently on my talon has the connector missing and previous owner decided to put a screw into the switch for some odd reason.

The big old one is the oil pressure sensor the new one looks like an oil pressure switch. The cars have both but the one measures the pressure where the other just tells you that the pressure is below something like 7psi. (gauge vs idiot light)

Okay, that's what I found doing my research, just wanted to make sure the aftermarket "oem" replacement would do the job.

No. It will not.

The store simply gave you the wrong one. If you want the gauge to work get the other one.

Sorry if I confused you, that's what I was trying to say.
It's all good. Right now I'm a little confused as to where to install my oil pressure gauge, I only see oil plugs where I'm supposed to have the oil gauge connected, none of them seem to have the right size threaded hole. Maybe I am missing something, I can snap a picture in a little bit and see what you guys think

I'm wondering if I need to make my own T fitting like I've seen other users describe when trying to figure this out. Bare with me I'm still pretty new to the 4g63. I appreciate all the help gentlemen

I'm far from an expert on oil filter housings but that one doesn't look like the standard 90 style remote cooler version MD132912.

Yours seems to be missing the tang up front where the wires usually clip to and the boss in the back where the pressure sensor goes.

Perhaps someone who knows the options better can answer.
