Small update, I finally brought my parts home to match them with the old ones. Everything looks to be the right specs/sizes (O'Reilly power torque parts). So I'm going to put it on this weekend and see if I have a working clutch.

Well, eventful weekend. On the car atleast (progress on the home got sidelined this weekend haha)
Friday I decided I wanted to try and pull my metal line out for my clutch system to clean up the engine bay for the ss line. Turns out I broke almost 80% of the bolts going into the right side of the car. They really had no chance, as soon as I put tourqe on them they snapped. No big deal

But I'm kind of glad I decided to take the right side of the car apart because one I started unbolting the line from the firewall I found this.

Looks like my engine was taken out at some point by a sloppy mechanic or the engine mount just happened to loosen itself haha. Anyways I tightened that back up and kept going. Turns out you cant pull the old line out in one piece despite how hard you try. I had to cut it into 3 sections. Friday ended with me starting the timing belt removal. More updates on that part later.
Saturday started with a purpose, I had mapped out a junk yard with a 95 hard top. I had a long list of stuff I wanted but ths real goal was to get a clutch resivor cap, and try to find a passanger seat track (hopefully a set of good front seats) drove to cars and parts about an hour north of me and got told a ridiculous price for the stuff I had picked out. I did a quick search and turns out Louisville pull a part had 4 2nd gen. So I drove 2 hours south and spent 4 hours fighting the rain/cold/and use of shitty harbor frieght tool kit I picked up on the way there. While there I found this.

Someones old project, I robbed the "short throw shifter" they had modded in, in hopes to modify it to work in mine for this season til I have some rainy day funds saved for next year's upgrades. The day really sucked. Without access to my home toolbox of handy removal tools I had to pass up a set of white 5 spoke rims with decent rubber on them cause they had fancy lug nuts that my harbor frieght tool kit wasnt prepared for haha

These are my pickings from the day. The 2gb fascia loomed to be in way better shape than mine and had all the trim pieces mine was missing.
Sunday started off with only one goal in mind. Pulling my lifters to start the process of operation DEEP CLEAN. Pulling the valve cover I was met with 15 oem lifters, I'm guessing. And one oem replica, I'm also guessing haha.

3rd rocker on the exhaust side in this picture is the rocker arm in questioning.
Screenshot_20200316-091413~2.png

Most of the lifters were demanding extra persuasion to come out of there bores but this one was a complete pain in the ass. Which I won with a 30 extraction.

Well from the research ive conducted from what I can tell is I already have the revised lifters in my head so I will be doing a thorough cleaning of these and slapping them back in with a fresh oil change.

Consider yourself lucky to be able to pick from 4 DSMs at once. At my yard they only seem to get them one at a time, and if you're not there the first day it's already stripped to the frame.

Keep updating and keep up the good work. Too bad that CF hood had a hole in it.

I guess with the bad weather not many people where out searching. it was pretty awesome that there was 4 at the same yard haha.
And I got pretty excited when I saw the hood til I walked around and seen it was broke. It's not my taste but I could have picked it up for cheap and made someone else that wanted it a great deal on it. Hey, that car had a 4 to 1 header on it. if your interested in it for your car, if I go back this weekend to get the rims I could pull it for you. Reading all these build threads I cant remember if you have a header or not.

Head looks good for a car that's been sitting and those do look like the 2g lifters. So you're not sticking with the yellow painted interior??? ROFL:thumb:

2g lifters or 3g?

and as far as the yellow paint .. . . . I'm having a very hard time keeping it in my mind that this is A TRACK CAR and doesn't need to look pretty but......... I have always wanted one since they came out and it kills me to have one not 100% how I want it to look. So I keep fighting myself from buying trim pieces and visual stuff to make this car look better. ( literately when my wife picked me back up from the junk yard I sat in the seat for about 10 minutes just sitting there pouting like a 5 year old and when she asked me what was wrong I said " I should have only spent 10 bucks in there instead of buying this crap" and shortly after that I told her the parts are going to be for another car.)......... Yes, you read that right, I have accepted that I'm going to be releasing one of my other cars to get a daily eclipse that I can make clean. something I can be proud of. Not that Im not proud of my yellow shit box, its just not 100% me haha.

to answer your last question, hell yeah its staying yellow on the outside haha I love it. but the inside will more than likely be covered up quick with black or grey paint.

I've already got a 4-1 header. But thanks for considering me anyway!

I read that one earlier, later in the post the original post member Wes_393 shared that the second set of pictures were the difference between known brand 3g's and ebay knock off 3g's. All the research I've looked up shows 2g's still suffered a smaller top and side hole than the 3g's, but I can not confirm that with prior real life experience since the only other 4g63 i've taken apart was on a laser a long time ago. I'm going to keep assuming the are 3g's haha

Damn, i had this video saved to watch last week and i never went back to it. I was going off of GSC power division zero tick lifter pictures which for some reason still have a pressed on cap such as apparently the original 2g lifters vs toplines revised ones that have a bottlecap top with a bigger hole than the 1g's. Great video, thanks for digging it back up for me haha. Hopefully anyone needing clarification on all the random info out there on lifters runs across this thread and it clears it up for them haha. Thanks TK106, I honestly have no idea what i have GSC4042 lifters or just stock 2g's but once it gets put back together if i still have ticking I'll buy a new set and document what i have haha.

No problem man!! Yeah they’re easy enough to swap if they still make noise so I’d do the same. I didn’t take mine apart though, just bleed them, soaked them in what ever cleaner you use, then pump them in the solution. Finally soak them in oil and repeat the process.

In hopes that my work shuts down soon so I can get some stuff done around the garage and on the car, I went out yesterday and bought drywall. Now taking up the little walk room I had in my packed garage.
Screenshot_20200319-135808~2.png
At the beginning of the week I "bled" the dirty oil out of my lifters just to see what it looked like. This is the little bit of oil I got out of all 16, pretty dirty with little bits of contaminants in there.

Well yesterday I was tired of working on the house and finally remembered to bring my small plastic cups with me to the garage so I started my first cleaning/soaking of the lifters and rockers.

Screenshot_20200319-135815~2.png
Turns out there was quite a bit of sludge in them. As I submerged them in diesel and pumped them a bit, after about 4 to 12 pumps I could feel the difference in pumps and I would watch the sludge pump out into the cup. I'll more than likely be going back tonight after work and switching all of them over to a new cup and let them sit for another 24 hours. Then after the second soaking I'll be switching to kerosene for there final bath before oiling. I should buy my timing belt kit before UPS shuts down so if I do get told not to come to work I'll be able to do the majority of the engine work and maybe get to start it back up soon. Well it will probably be a few days before another update happens.

Damn virus, shortly after I did my last update on here I decided to summit my order for a timing belt kit. all OEM besides the Kevlar belt upgrade. . . . .hello $606 credit card bill :hellyeah:Now all I can hope for is the upgraded shipping make it to me before this shit show of a virus shuts everything down. Fingers crossed. Racing the clock

Well, the weekend started off decent. went to my local junk yard, spent 27.50 on two sets of lifters and rockers, one out of a 04 kia optima and one out of a 05 kia optima. both with a 2.4 4g64. both have relatively clean engines. I haven't went back to my soaking lifters and rockers to inspect them but last time I was switching the diesel I seen one rocker had some chips on the valve contact surface. other than going to the junk yard I did nothing with my car. I did manage to get quite a bit of electrical work done on my house though! So that brings us to today, we went under a 2 week "Quarantine" where only essential businesses are open. . . . .who would have thought a parts manager at a dealership would be essential. FML looks like I'll have to keep working on my projects after work like I have been. That was the first of my bad news today. second my extreme PSI package came in today and while I was checking the parts with the invoice I found that my main timing belt part number was different from the invoice. turns out somehow I managed to get a belt for a diamante :ohdamn:. I'm currently working with extreme psi to fix the problem. Tonight the house is taking a backseat and I plan on working a little on the car. first off ill be deciding which lifters and rockers ill be using. Then resuming the cleaning process with them. after that ill more than likely start the tear down process of the timing belt. I've already removed the driver side rim, the splash shield, the top belt cover, both accessory belts and I've loosen the balancer pulley bolts and water pump pulley bolts. I'm sure I will have a decent update for tomorrow, unless on the off chance something else goes wrong today and I don't go to the garage.

Well my correct timing belt is on its way. I should see it Wednesday. Since I was having an off day yesterday I didnt do much on the car, I took my stock lifters and rockers out of their diesel bath and inspected them. I knew atleast one rocker was chewed up after seeing it last time i moved it from cup to cup.
Screenshot_20200324-081523~2.png

I ended up finding 2 rockers chewed on the valve surface area.

Screenshot_20200324-081551~2.png

And 2 with flat spots on the out side of the rollers, not sure what causes this but I figured they should be replaced on the safe side.

Screenshot_20200324-081539~2.png

Suprisingly most of the rockers from the Toyotas where chewed on the valve surface areas. (I had read in another forum there was another member that noticed this same issue) out of about 30 rockers only 9 passed first inspection( inspection before cleaning)

Here is my rockers and lifters from the junkyard find soaking in there first bath of diesel. After a few days I'll give them another inspection while they are decently clean and proceed with the same process my first batch went through.
Screenshot_20200324-081605~2.png

And these are the ones I'm keeping from the dsm is their organized cups of kerosene.

Updates are coming, My job is currently still active so I'm still working on side projects after hours and weekends. That being said I have made a huge improvement on the size of the drywall stack in my second garage bay. Also my Dakota decided to lock up a rear drum the other day so I've been on and off working on it. Looks like just cleaning and adjusting the rear shoes didn't help so looks like a brake job is in my future taking up valuable eclipse time. I did manage to work about 2 hours on it last night, removed the timing belts and installed belt B back on before remembering I needed to pull the water pump off. Last thing I did last night was drained the radiator. my phone died before I could snag any pictures last night but you guys are going to get a kick out of something when you see it tomorrow.
