So I am 150% new to the DSM world, hell even the import world at that, but I want to start getting into my 1997 Eclipse GS and making a little more power out of the 420a.

I've read everywhere that Megasquirt is the best thing to start out with engine management wise but when I look at websites I'm completely lost in columns and columns of parts and it's so overwhelming, can someone help give me a starting point?

I'm looking to buy a preassembled kit

You do not need megasquirt. The stock ECU is more then capable of running your car. Unless you put a turbo on the car or heavily modify the motor, you will gain very little from just changing the ECU.
