I'm going to look at a turbo'd 420a car on Saturday. I know this is a long shot but I was just wondering if anybody would know how many horses this car might be pushing.

Mods:
- 63mm turbo
- blow off valve
- catback system
- 550cc injectors
- cai
- Big Blox throttle body

Hey Black … Just wondering if you ever heard of a program called Desk-Top-Dyno. You can feed all your info into the program ( you can even estimate 1/4 mile times ) and it will kick out your HP curve . I had it once before when I was bracket racing and it does a pretty fine job . You need to add loads of info such as weight , tire size , your weight , temperature , altitude ECT . Gives a pretty accurate reading too .

I'd say no more than 180-200whp.
On a 63mm turbo? The stock 2g turbo for GS-T is a 41mm... And 550cc injectors can handle 315 hp @ crank, which is about ~290 whp.
I'm just curious why you think these numbers are what you guessed they are. I'm not saying that you are wrong, just asking why you think you are right.

And I guess it would help if I told how much psi of boost it was pushing...

With the lack of information you gave us 1-1000hp.
That's all the info I have. I can probably get a detailed write-up from this guy, but it's not worth it. I'm probably going to end up buying this car anyway. And then I can do some tweaking and dyno it myself. :)

Along with everyone else, it's hard to say without more info. Assuming the injectors are MAXED out, I'd say ~290hp.

Again, it's hard to say.

Edit: Also if it's not built, it'll be way less. Pretty sure stock, boosted 420a cars blow up under 300hp or something around that guideline.

Because the car isn't built and most likely will be running low boost. 7-8 psi. It's also probably also isn't tuned. Those motors and transmissions dont handle power well stock.

Doesn't matter what the turbos inducer is or what size injectors it has. It's irrelevant in this situation with a minimum effort build or lack of information. Don't automatically assume what the injectors and turbo is capable of is what the motor is actually putting out.

Honda guys do the same thing. Huge turbos, small injectors, low boost, substandard results.

Also stock the 420a only make around 100-120whp so it's not a far stretch.

If its tuned on low boost, 240-260hp.
If its built head, block and more boost maybe 320-340. Just depends on a lot of variables.
If its just turbo'd with no tune and a FCD then it probably makes around 180whp.

Wat happened?
I got in contact with him. He said that the engine has never been rebuilt, stock rods, stock pistons, stock ecu. He said it idles high because of the ecu. He also said that the turbo was from Ebay. And from detailed pics the engine bay looks really nasty, possible corrosion and fluid leaks.

Even if the car was magically great, it is 5 hours away, so It's not even worth my time to go and look at it.

5 hours isnt to bad. But yea that sounds terrible. Running boost on a stock ecu? No thanks

I drove 8 hours for my evo. If your willing to travel, theres a nice red gst I just saw in the classifieds. Guy wanted 3k for it. It looks pretty clean. Might be worth a look or get it shipped.

I drove a turbo'd 420A with a forged bottom end and built head for a number of years before making the switch to the 63 platform. It was a lot of work and a lot of money for not a lot of result. Probably best the deal fell through.

That said, there are a few guys around doing it, and I commend them. Definitely the harder way to go.

Curious but what was the turbo setup and hp on it? Was it reliable when it was all said and done?
