As some may not yet know, the Red demon driven by Devin Schultz has taken a hit on track down in Florida. After setting a record mph of 215.62 the car was wrecked in what appears to be a retiring crash for the car. Devin is "100% okay" but the car seems to not be. Kristin posted that the car will be retired for now and they will be reflecting on what the car has done for the community. I hope that someday the car will make a comeback and I will genuinely miss seeing it run at the shootout if this is the case. Hopefully Dave Buschur's apparent comeback will give Aaron Gregory the competition he needs at the shootout and we will continue to have a good finals show. We will be having a toast to Devin and the Red Demon tonight and all that the car has accomplished. Cheers.

This car brought so much respect to the DSM community, and was the benchmark while everyone else spent years catching up. I'm glad everyone is okay, but there is clearly more left in this platform. Do it again and run the 6.99, put the DSM and 4G63 further in the history books.

I wanted nothing more than for him to put us in the 6's. I hope the car makes a comeback and does just that. Time will tell.

Don't want to sound like I missed the message - it is sad the car has wrecked but glad Devin is okay!

I caught the news also but didn't want to be the bearer of it on here. I was also glad that Devin is ok, they can build another car but not another Devin!
Thank god for good safety equipment. :thumb:
Retire the car but don't retire Devin. Hope it didn't shake you up too bad.

I've always been surprised at how much attention the Red Demon got on all the big youtube channels. At the local cesspool-meet nobody knows what a dsm is but the real car guys do.

Such sad news.. I always looked forward to seeing this car at the Shootout but now she’s gone. I wonder if they will post the video or pictures of the aftermath.

Glad no one was hurt.

That program and the people involved with it has shown people for a while now what these cars are capable of. If they never put together another car they’ll still have done more for the credibility of the platform than anyone.
Agreed. They took the platform to new heights and got everyone in the racing world to take notice. I'm happy that they were involved as a vendor here for much of that time. It will be unfortunate if they don't rebuild the car, but even if they don't, they've done the community proud and have left their mark.

They most certainly have. It's been so awesome to watch that car develop over the years. It is so awesome to get right behind that car on the line and watch it take off. Videos don't really do it justice.

Maybe we can all petition for Shep to revive the 1g in the meantime. He's taken long enough of a break from the platform haha. I was at the shop earlier this year and they said he still has it but it's just been sitting this whole time with what I believe is a blown head gasket. And he won't sell it or do anything with it. Time for a revival LOL.

Noooooooo!!! I'm glad Devin is ok but this is sad. The demon made many people see what a dsm is capable of. Living in the south I deal with a lot of muscle guys and they can't help but respect this build. Hopefully they decide to bring it back to life. God bless and be safe everyone and enjoy the holidays.

John Sheppard held that record for like 10 years LOL, if there was ever gonna be a successor the red demon was it. Has anyone ever broke a record, reset it, and then re broke it as many times as the demon? Chirp Chirp Chirp LOL

One last post before I finish my beer, Heres to you Mr Schultz, I hope you read these posts and understand there’s so many faces you’ve never seen that lite up watching you push that car all over the track like a boss! I always looked forward for new videos of the Demon, you’ve more than earned your way into LEGEND status, I think I speak for everyone on thus forum when I say Thank You:rocks:

I would actually rather see John Shepard bring the crazy clean 1g back out, and seeing as Dave Buschur has a 1g now that he plans to bring to the shootout next year that would make for a sweet grudge match, not big power but just a fun run down the track with two of the legends in the community, those guys and lets say AMS brings a car and English racing and people would be saying "the red what?" LOL.

Yes this would be awesome. I'll be going to drop my trans off again sometime this winter to him so I'm going to try to convince him haha. A post on tuners with about 100+ asking him to bring it back would give me some more weight though LOL

I'm devastated I never got to see it in person but this car was and is a legend. Glad he's okay. That's what matters. The car did it's job one last time and kept him safe.

Thank you guys so much for the support, and the kind words. I've appreciated seeing how much this car has impacted so many in the community, both on the import and domestic sides. I ran the RD because I just loved it, the records just happened to come with it. I'm glad the car inspired so many of you, and am honored by the out pour of support and the memories shared with all. And hopefully the RD 2.0 will do the same. :D

Black'98 DSM.......Did you see the pass before the crash (215mph)? The car was dead straight. Anyone who races as much as I do, is going to have something happen eventually. Since the crash I looked at the car and the left rear spindle is broken at the lower control arm mount as well as the toe arm........ the left rear wheel never hit the wall. I also lost steering of the car long before the front of the car hit the wall. Shit Broke.

An AWD car will always skate down the track when its on the edge of traction, because your steering wheels are also spinning. Aaron G, Mike W, Section 8 (civic) and a lot of the top AWD guys have all hit the wall. Sheps in car video of the 7.70.....he was all over the place. You should disrespect them as well if you're going to make those kinds of statements.

Motomattx........ "the red what"......."surprised it took this long for it to EAT A WALL". Keep sipping your haterade, as you hit replay on my videos. :thumb:

Thanks again to the entire community. Your love and support means a lot to me.
Devin

Red Demon 2.0 - yes!!!! Can't wait. Great job on all you've done with the car Devin, and sorry to hear about the crash.

I don't know if they meant any disrespect, or that their comments were meant to be shots at your driving. I think it was more about how much power that car had and how much of a beast it was to drive that car and keep it straight. At least, that's what I was thinking they were referring to with those comments. I don't think anyone has anything but respect for your driving and your skills.

And hopefully the RD 2.0 will do the same.

Now this is what I like to hear! I can imagine it will be a worthy successor! This has me super excited now.

I don't think anyone that has not driven a 1000-1800+ hp DSM should really be saying much about how it should be controlled but that's none of my business. I always thought you have done a hell of a job driving something as insane as the Red Demon and keeping it going as straight as possible.

Again thank you for continuing with the platform and helping keep the community going. Your continued attendance and support at the Shootout is also much appreciated. Even when others stopped showing you guys were still there. Without people like you guys we may not still have the event around.

Again sorry to hear about the car but we are definitely glad you got out unharmed. You definitely have our community support for years to come.
