Hey guys. My name is Chad from South Carolina. I have been waiting 20 years to own a 2G Eclipse and the time has finally come. I bought this beauty for $4k about three weeks ago. I almost bought one in '98 but I settled for a Montero Sport instead and ended up rolling it 8x and scalping the left side of my head from hitting the asphalt. Wish I would have bought that GSX instead. LOL

Purchased November 2019. 18200 original miles. It sat in a ladies garage for almost 20 years. Interior and convertible top are in immaculate condition. Body is almost perfect but yes, the engine is a 4G64. Current plan is to go through the engine and electrical and see what needs replacing after such a long time in storage. I had all the hoses and belts replaced. Harmonic Balancer replaced. Break and coolant flushed and replaced.
Has new battery and new rubber. Make it a DD for now. Later I will look into bolt-on-mods or perhaps a small turbo. Have read that the engine can take some boost w/o internal engine mods. We shall see. Open for any suggestions.
Glad to be here. Thanks for your time.

Nice find Chad. My son had a 97 Spyder in black on black like your car. She was a fast little car but it had the 4g63/turbo and auto trans. Very happy to have you on the forum. Search, ask, post. Get a profile of your car and anything you know about it so we can ooo and aaah over it! :)

Marty - Thanks for the warm welcome. Ill be diving in and searching a good bit in the maintenance threads on how to replace parts as I come across issues I found over time. Hopefully the engine is solid and there wont be much to repair. It has been driving great for the three weeks I have owned it. Time will tell. I appreciate your time.

I would say that you will need to check its maintenance records and see when a timing belt was done last. That is the one thing that will kill these cars and lead to a lot of money in repairs if not done on schedule. :thumb:

I appreciate the heads up. Ill put it at the top of the list and get on it. Thanks!

Wow! Nice find Chad. I've been looking long and hard to find such a low miles example. 18k miles is great, I'm sure just some basic maintenance should have it running well for years to come. If you ever do decide to build and mod it, be sure to make a build thread for it. I bet I'd be watching it! :D

Your second pic shows the speedo with MPH on the outside and KM/H inside . From what I understand this shows the car was to be sent to Canada . Correct me if I`m wrong .
I'm pretty sure all US 2G cars had that. Both of mine did and my current is a California emissions car. IIRC, the Canadian cars had km/h on the outside and the odometer was also in km.

Chad, that thing is gorgeous! How the heck did you come across this gem?

Thanks for the praise. I have replaced the fuel filter and will be checking the timing belt and MAF, O2 sensors etc. as the month progresses. Hoses and harmonic balncer replaced also. So far so good. A couple of months down the road will tell me if I made the right choice in buying it or not. LOL

I honestly have no clue but a little google should tell me.

Believe it or not, Face Book Market. Local guy here in SC sold it to me when his mother passed not long ago. Was just sitting in her garage for almost 2 decades along with a '99 4Runner with only 13k miles on it. He kept that.

That's the way all 2g DSM's are. It's no doubt an American model.

I thought in Canada the km/h was on the outside?

FaceBook Marketplace is slowly becoming the best place to buy cars. I see cars flowing through there every hour, hell sometimes they sell in 5 minutes. Especially now that Craigslist charges $5 to post a car for sell. I haven't seen a DSM on Craigslist literally since I bought mine, but I see them on Marketplace daily.

8 hours before I found the Spyder on Market Place I sold a 2011 Honda Element on there. It was up for about 11 days before I got a solid buyer. It has become a good place to find parts vehicles in working condition for cheap also. My son and his buddy have rebuilt a couple of trucks using vehicles they have found from that site.

Thats what I have found from a little research (google). Japanese and American have km/h on inside. Canadian and Euro km/h on outside.
