I have an oil leak coming from the back driver side of the engine that sprays all over my exhaust my cross member and my transmission, I don't think it is transmission fluid (it's a m/t) I need to check my fluid levels for that and see what fluid I even have in there honestly.. but it seems to be the engine oil because when I do an oil change it's pretty clean and as time goes by after the oil dripping gets darker. Not sure if it's a rear main or input shaft, cant even figure out where it's coming from. I'm thinking using engine oil dye to find out maybe?

If it is "spraying oil" then it is under pressure, not like the vc. Most likely is the pressure sending unit or main seal. Could also be the oil filter housing but that's closer to the passenger side. You can get both the sending unit and the socket for it from Rock Auto for $20.

You followed the torquing steps for the valve cover and applied sealant where needed, correct?
Yes, I had to re use the gasket a couple weeks after I installed it because I replaced my head gasket, but I cleaned everything and reapplied the rtv where I'm supposed to. Pretty sure one of the bolts got stripped the inside passenger bolt... but I know my vcg isnt leaking because nothing is coming from the top of the head.

Well I used that word improperly when describing this, it appears to spray because I dont have the undercarriage shield so wind gets up there and blows everything around, making it difficult to do a visual inspection because the oil is just everywhere.

I've never had good luck with oil dye helping me find any leaks. The best way I've found is to gain as much access to the engine as possible. I remove the trans braces and cross member, intake, etc. Clean the hell out of the block, then run it on jack stands for a while to get the oil hot and start wiping a paper towel around all the seals.

I've found some hard to find leaks this way. I had a cam cap leaking between the cap and the head. Also had the trans fill plug leak bc it was so old. I ended running the car in gear on jack stands to find that one. The rubber grommets on the VC can leak. Also I don't ever reuse a VC. They always leak on me.
