There is some information of swapping the evo VIII 4g63t into the 2ngt eclipse. Look up Miguel_DSM on youtube or Google, he has an Instagram too. He is currently in the process of converting his 1999 OZ rally special edition 2gnt eclipse from a 4g63t swap to an AWD swap.

The evo VIII swap requires little fabrication, I believe it deals with cutting into the sub frame a little. I don't know the details, a little research will lead you in the right direction. There isnt any actual write ups of step by step "this is how its done" that I am aware of. It requires more fabrication and modification to swap a 2g gsx/gst into a 2gnt body, it is a lot more work but the evo VIII swap is more expensive since you need an evo VIII motor which is pricey. Most people will tell you to just buy a gsx or gst

I’m actually subscribed to him and was just watching one before I came to bed LOL I started to not think it was a 4g63 tho with the timing belt on the 420a side tho

Appreciate it I’m actually

appreciate it I’m actually looking for a gsx on the daily. Been getting a lot of bs post and listings but eventually. Have my eyes on a couple 4g63 engine also which brought up the idea. Thanks tho man

Appreciate everyone’s insight, I didn’t even realize the 4g63 was different in the evo 8 then the eclipse engine. I’ve always heard they were the same with exception of turbo size

So it’s the same exact engine but setup differently?
Pretty close to a 7 bolt Dsm engine, but its flipped backwards is all, of course little things are different like main bearing caps and rod part numbers and the cylinder head is a newer design but otherwise its the same.

Don't do this swap unless you really reallllllly want to. You'd be better off buying a car that came with the 4g63t. It is way less time consuming, way easier, and maybe just maybe cheaper.

You have my support if you want to do the swap, but I just recommend that you don't. Good luck with whatever though! :thumb:

If you cant find a gsx you can always get a gst and do an awd swap, it is far less work than a 420->4g63t I believe.
That's true, but you could just wait until you find the GSX. I bet you can find one for the same price if not only slightly more expensive than a GST.

Evo 8 uses the 4g63 motor its just designed so the transmission sits the same as the 420a which makes it a easier swap, there are a lot of people in Europe doing EVO 8 swaps on 2g Eclipse's! It is well worth it and it is really not that much work, you will have more work swapping in a 4g63t from a gst or gsx since transmission is on passenger side it will cause loads of fabrication.

I believe only minor things are needed for the EVO 8 swap with little to no fabrication
