2G Clutch not making full contact?

Ok so long story short, I was having clutch drag issues after I replaced my clutch disk and flywheel faceplate as well as had my transmission freshened up and front differential replaced by Shep Trans due to a broken tooth.

The issue was the clutch would engage right off the floor but only after launching the car. If I then ripped the E-bake, put the car in gear, and loaded up the transmission a little, the issue would instantly go away and the clutch would not drag. The engagement would move back to the middle until I launched again, then I had to repeat the process. (Everything hydraulic was replaced, bled 1000 times, bell housing bolts were tight, clutch fork was positioned right, step height was good, clutch adjusted, etc etc.)

Fast forward like 30 days and 780 miles later. 2nd gear completely shreds itself doing a pull with a Z06. At the top of second, she just let go. $1400 down the toilet. So now that the trans is out again, I took the clutch off to inspect it and see what exactly was going on with that whole ordeal. Clutch was lined up properly, and the pressure plate bolts were properly torqued upon inspection before removal.

It appears that the clutch was not making full contact with the pressure plate or the flywheel. I am just wondering if this might just be that the clutch was not fully broken in yet, or if I might have another issue going on. The only thing that was not replaced was the pressure plate. I was also wondering if its posssible or apprears that maybe the clutch disk was sticking to the flywheel ot pressure plate and causing my drag issues?

I just want to know if I should replace something while it is out, or if my issue was maybe related to the clutch not being fully broken in and its an issue that might resolve itself with some more miles on it. Thanks.

Any ideas as to what might have been causing my engagement or clutch drag issues? The issue was 100% not hydraulic related. It has to be with the clutch assembly. No idea if this thing just needs broken in more or something looks wrong?
 
That definitely has funny wear, but 9/10 clutches I run are way more f***ed up than that. General use tears them up fast, I couldn't afford to keep perfect clutches in the car all the time, so I made it work with used up junk. Just got to make sure you have enough release travel.

This disk and flywheel face plate only has 700 miles on it. The pressure plate has maybe 10k on it at most.

My release travel is more than sufficient. I actually add a shim so that the fork sits slightly to the driver side of the car and then just adjust it at the pedal so that it does not over extend.

I had a few very knowledgeable individuals check it out the dragging issue at the shootout as well. They almost didn't believe me until I showed them LOL. Clutch would not drag, engagement was dead in the middle, and all is well. Id let them feel it for themselves. Then I launched the car and let them feel the engagement and it was directly off the floor and the car would roll forward off the anti-lag. I would then yank the e-brake, put the car in gear, let the clutch out and give it a littel gas so that the car almost stalled. Boom. Engagement was right back at the middle and would never move until the next launch. They were all like "uhhhhh......." LOL.

Is it just my eyes or does it look like the outside screws on the flywheel match up with the wear patterns? Is it possible the flywheel isn't flat?

Not unless it warped after the first launch. I bought a brand new friction surface and checked it before and after installing it with feeler gauges. Did the same with the pressure plate as well. But it definitely looks lines up with the screw holes it seems. The pressure plate side seems to be a bit more distinct line than the flywheel side. It definitely looks like the pressure plate has a low spot in it that I missed, but I wouldn't think that would cause a drag issue.

Where do the fingers sit when the clutch is all bolted together?

Do you mean like the angle that they sit at? They were flat and slightly outward I believe like normal. I can reassemble it and get a pic.
 
yeah they all do that. they don't get any worse usually, and the disc quickly wears in LOL. Ive been told if you get the pressure plate resurfaced, it'll stay flat. but it's a challange to find a place to do it.

Yeah because you have to take it apart to get a proper cut. At least that's what my machinist said. Guess I'll be hitting Tim up for a new one. I'm scrapping this fidanza flywheel for a streetlite too.
 
Wow, that explains the funny wear pattern.

Yeah no kidding. I won't lie I don't think I checked across the entire pressure plate like my machinist did. I just checked across the bottom to top the the contact surface on various spots. That will be the last time I ever try to reuse a pressure plate. The pressure plate really didn't have all that many launches on it. I guess it doesn't take much. I'm actually shocked this thing wasn't slipping.
