Not sure if I believe it yet but it's better than no rumors at all.

https://www.eightmotoring.sg/2019/07/01/mitsubishi-evo-11-is-confirmed-on-the-way/

My worry is the price. I'd love to pick one up brand new, but 350 hp rumored and the last evo was in the 40s new. Hard to justify when Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers etc are considerably more powerful and are well refined for similar cost.

Interesting none the less and I hope this actually comes through.

Link is not working for me, maybe its a euro thing LOL,

I thought they wanted to stop performsnce and do suv and phev all the time? Guess they got emailed alot by angry people LOL

Article is very short. I'll post the screenshot here. It does mention they believe this is part of the new alliance between Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Renault which allows platform sharing.

There's also noise for another 2dr hatch Eclipse & 3000GT.

If its share based then its the megane chassis from what i saw when searching. Not a bad chassis but not as good as a mitsu chassis thats for sure

I did see that it might be based on the Megane. Being from the US, I don't know much about the Megane, but a new Mitsubishi that isn't a crossover or SUV is exciting. We will see what (if anything) they end up announcing.

Their cup chassis are pretty well sorted but no way near rally based from start to finish so if they want a true evo and 4wd they got alot of work ahead of themselfs so make it how it should be or perhaps the new evo will be fwd LOL, just lets pray they dont have the renault engines in as they powerful but not the most reliable of engines.

Apart from the old MK1 clio williams 2.0/1.8 16v versions (i owned the 1.8 version) the megane is the only other renault i would own but in the their race version with the cup pack. The last model was really nice, french parts are also not cheap. Maybe pray they put the VR38DETT in LOL

The mention of the possibility id a hybrid system is concerning...I like light weight vehicles. Hybrid systems add complexity, cost and weight. I don't like that.

Indeed.

Hopefully, they offer a couple of options without hybrid power.

I don’t mind the chassis. If remember right the Megane rs took the fwd record from the type r. I’m more worried that they would be using the same engine. The engine is a vw ea888 engine. They are stout but the ecu are a nightmare to tune and only a few companies sell canned tunes like apr. basically an $800 can tune. I’m not a big fan of the 4motion awd either. I had a 2015 golf r for a 1 1/2 years.

ANy thing Mitsu could possibly come out with would completely suck ass. The only way this car is some what desirable is the go back to a big port 6 bolt cast iron block and a real manual trans other wise.....boooooring.

Aluminum block, hybrid electric cross over drives it self via google with a 29 speed automatic shifting paddles comes with a charging station at home...sounds like an EVO 11 to me.

Agreed with previous posters. Bleh on the hybrid or french/german engines. Just build a refined, well put together, very competitive AWD sports car and it'll sell. It always does. Mitsu lost their way and it bit them in the butt so hard it ended up taking them entirely out. They need to learn from their mistakes.

If it's going to have a Renault Megane powertrain, then no. It needs to be 100% Mitsubishi. Don't make the same mistake as Toyota did with the BMW Supra.
I don’t really care if they have to partner up. That is likely going to be the future of a lot of performance models due to the huge development costs and the low sales volume of these types of cars. I think it’s a mistake to dismiss what could be a good car simply because it isn’t developed 100% by Mitsubishi - as some are doing with the Supra. But that’s me.

From what I have seen about the new Supra it seems like it was only about 10% developed by Toyota. I read that they just tested parts to see if they met their reliability standards and made BMW upgrade what failed. Even the Toyota Drift team yanked everything out and put the 2J back in it not to mention its only an auto which for some of the more popular racing stick is where it is.

The Eclipse also basically died in the 3rd generation, or at least it started the decline. The 4g63 was such a good platform that manufactures seems like they didnt want to develop much of anything for it and just kept with the Evo 4g63 development. I think small cars are going to make a comeback with how these tarriffs are hitting businesses. In the flooring industry there has already been 2-25% increases in the product and supposedly there is going to be another one in September. It might not look like much when just looking at the price of the material per foot, but when you get into the 500-1000 feet range you are talking thousands of dollars more.

There needs to be more small cars or just cars in general. Riding my motorcycle, or when my car ran somewhat good I could never see out of a parking spot if a truck parked next to me.

A new Evo I think would be good, though the one in the first link looked like a mix between an Evo and a Dodge Charger. It doesnt look bad though. I guess it depends on how much they stick to the roots and not pull what they did with the eclipse.

The reports out there indicate that Toyota spec'd out the Supra with mostly BMW parts to meet their requirements. I've read from some people with inside knowledge that even the engine internals might be different in order to allow it to hold more power for the tuning crowd - we'll see how true that is soon enough.

The 2JZ swapped MKV Supras are cool for what they are, but they were done to appease the purists. Plenty of MKIV owners are buying the MKV regardless of all the negative talk, and they love the car. It's a polarizing platform for sure, and it will be the topic of heated debates, but that doesn't mean it's not a good car that should make enthusiasts excited.

If Mitsubishi found a way to do something similar through a partnership to bring back a turbo AWD coupe and/or sedan to revive the Eclipse or the Evo nameplate, I'd be all for it. So long as it had good performance, could be tuned for more, and was a good design, it would be better than nothing - which is what we're likely to see from them without any such partnership. Hell, it even took a partnership with Chrysler to get the original turbo AWD Eclipse built. If that platform didn't work we probably would have never seen the Evo get imported.

The 2020 Supra is putting out good stock numbers, but the lack of a manual transmission is a turn off for a lot. Race teams are taking the BMW engine out for the 2j for mainly a few reasons, it's what they know, parts are available, it's a tested platform that has proved itself over and over again and it has a manual transmission option.

For drag and street driving the car is good for what it is but I have seen a lot of people say it isn't fun to drive compared to other cars even the Toyota GT86.

I personally only see the old Supra in one spot on the entire car and that is the headlights. The rest looks like it was ripped right out of a BMW catalog.

I think there are 2 different types of people in the conversation as well, people looking at it as a car and what it is, and others looking at it as a rebirth of an icon and disappointed.

If you look at who did those 2JZ swaps it was more for PR and the cool factor than it was for actual racing. The BMW turbo engine has been doing just fine in pro racing over the years. If/when the Supra actually ends up in any sanctioned racing series (like IMSA) I highly doubt you'll see any of them 2JZ swapped. Most sanctioning bodies won't allow swaps like that anyway, and it would probably end up being cost prohibitive to run a program with a non-factory supported engine swap.

I get the purist loyalty aspect, I really do. But to reject the car because of that will just mean fewer cool cars will be built for enthusiasts like us in the future. If a similar partnership meant we could see an Evo 11 or a new turbo AWD Eclipse, or maybe a new Starion or 3000GT, I'd be all for it. Nobody can swap a 4G63 into a new version of those cars because they're not being built. At least there's a new Supra to swap a 2JZ into.

The Toyota drift team did it. They got the car before it was even out and it was the first thing they did and the BMW engine, even though it has been out since 2015 if I remember correctly, there isn't a big aftermarket or at least wasn't, so there was basically nothing for it.

A partnership is fine, DSM the previous Supra with Yamaha for example. It just seems like this wasn't a partnership but Toyota just paying BMW to build it.

An Evo or Eclipse though the Eclipse is pretty much dead at this point I would say going into the future would be great. The 4th gen to me didn't look that bad and looked like a more modern 2g it's just all the tuning was in the Evo at that point and it was too little too late. What they should of done was take the Evo engine made it a non-turbo version and sold it like that. People could of turned it into a turbo eclipse and sold a ton of them since some people don't like 4 doors. 2 cars with interchangeable parts would of cut down on costs as well other than body panels and interior.

I hope there is a new Mitsubishi car or cars. Just like I'm glad that Toyota brought back the Supra though I think in the wrong way.

Yeah, I've seen the swaps, and they made perfect sense for the drift scene, it's a great marketing investment. The aftermarket is jumping all over that car, it's the hot platform for a new parts development race.

I hope Mitsu gets their shit together soon and does something like Toyota and Subaru with the FT86, or Toyota and BMW with the Supra. I don't care if the car is polarizing or controversial, or if purists freak out about it. I just want them to get back into the cool f'n car game however they can. Make something people want to buy. The path they're on now looks pretty bleak.

This is the great thing about cars though - it evokes passion.

The old Supra also had a partnership with Yamaha so I don't think purists are upset because of a partnership. I look at it more like if you were a teacher constantly asking for someone's homework day after day and eventually they hand it in, but it's the same thing as Paul's but with your name on it when you start reading it.

I agree that Mitsubishi needs to get their act together. last I looked at their website there was one car and 2-3 SUV/crossovers. Let's just hope it's a good platform with room to grow.
