I currently have a 99 eclipse with a non turbo 4G63 in it The help I am looking for is how to get as much HP under the hood as a NA engine. Need it to appear stock so with all of the knowledge you guys have I though someone would be willing to stick a parts list together that would make the most HP

I was thinking head swap to a 2.4, is that possible? stroker? any ideas that will work together would be greatly appreciated....

2.4 dohc hybrid would be the best bet. As for breathing upgrades, like cams, header/exhaust/intake manifold, it'll depend on where you need the power and governing rules. If you have to be stock appearing, does that mean no aftermarket headers or intake manifolds? If so, a 2g head/manifold and best stock up exhaust manifold/header with a set of 264/272 cams with some gears to tweak things would be my thought. Compression is also going to be helpful as long as it doesn't limit you to exotic fuels or break the rules. Obviously some form of engine management will be highly beneficial, stock ECU parameters aren't going to cut it.

Give us some more info about most important RPM ranges, rules and budget.

It is a swapped in 4G63.
Budget. Would like to stay under $5k
My general Knolidge about mechanics, I’m a double ASE master.
What I can and can’t get away with, I have what appears to be a header (not sure of brand) that would be stock so it’s one the car and not questioned. It has an intake that looks to me to have been replaced so I’m guessing it may not be stock also. But by the rules the exhaust, and induction system must remain stock.

If this was a GM product I could build it in my sleep. We run superlate models at these same tracks.

I got this car mostly built and thought it had great potential because the way the suspension works on them. Now I’m being told by the eCotech guys that it was a waste of my money because it will never compete with them. So I’m out to prove them wrong. That’s what brought me to this site. The only tec inspection done in this class is visual so I can get away with anything I can make look stock.

Why would I cheat you may ask? Well it’s simple. The top 10 cars week in and week out run 2.4 eCotec internals in a 2.0 block. This, making them a 2.4 that NEVER came in a cavalier. So the only way I see to equalize the field is to do what they do.

Hope I didn’t jump around tooooo much.

I forgot to add. RPM range. We run 3rd gear to the rev limiter, feather a little threw the turn then to the limiter again and repeat for 15 Laps. You are basically at the limit for 15 laps.

That is my guess as well. But I’m sure the cams are not from the turbo. It was an asphault circle track car and was told it took first place often.

I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could help me get to the front on a dirt circle.
Not that it matters but who ever actually contributes to the success I will make a thanks to list on the car and add your user names to give you all some kind of credit along with thanks to dsmtuners.com.

How can I tell if it may already have a 2.4 block.

There is a flat pads toward the front of the block, on top of the balance shaft hump, left of the alternator. It will have the engine code on it.

I'm inclined to agree with @silvreclips that it's a GST with the turbo removed.

I'd still say do a 2.4, 2g head, stock or AMG Galant intake manifold (if you could find it, I believe they were a 2g port), around 11-11.5:1 compression, and some decent cams, 272s maybe. If you can swing cam gears under the stock cover that would help wring the last bit out of it, as well as let you adjust the power band peak and area under the curve.
Stock style header might be all you can do, but once again, some form of tuning is the best bet to take advantage of the mods

I'm sure some other ppl with more experience can narrow down the details to help out better than myself.

It’s says
4G63
0259

So it is for sure a 2.0. Thanks for that info.

I would run a 1g big port head on a 2.4l block, n/t cams from a 1g, 2.4l injectors and fuel pressure regulator, no thermostat and engine ice with de-ionized water and a flashed black box ecu with a timing curve that will allow combustion chamber cooling at higher rpm's.

Ok. Here is a question for you guys. Would someone be interested in building me the baddest N/T engine with all these parts? I’m going to do the 2.4. And around 12:1 CR. I can sneak about 50% VP late model fuel in it so detonation shouldn’t be a problem at all.

I would actually like to install a stroker kit and make it all it can be at the same time.

If paying someone to do it, you're talking a pricey motor, like 10k+ probably to do it right and have someone put their name on it/stand behind it.

Idk if there are any stroker kits for the 2.4, and I doubt there'd be a good enough gain for the extra .2l displacement the extra cost and work it would take.

Stick with a well built 2.4 and keep it simple, you'll be better off and happier.

The 2.4 block IS the stroker, just grab a 2.4 tall deck block out of a Spyder or Galant, etc from your same generation and build it up with quality forged parts.

I have an update on my build and would like a little more input. what I ended up going with is a 4g64 block 102mm Brian Crower stroker kit. And a 1G head decked out by Buschur. My question is can I go with an Evo 2G intake manifold and port it large enough for the head (if you can?)or should I stick with a 1G eclipse? Or is there a better option for a factory look? Mid to high rpm power.
