doesnt look good.
bled all exh lifters, retimed and validated perfect..

DROPPED to 90-100-60-90 approx. actual values dont matter. cyl 3 bumped up 10, cyl 1 and 2 dropped significantly

added a cap of oil
140-125-82-119

waited a bit..
175-144-89-171

looks like the bottom end is done for. even though a wet test is essentially useless on a dished piston, these numbers are still pretty whack.

What do you think broke? Cracked a ring?

Havent a clue. Weirdness going on in every cylinder, none of it makes sense to me. I am still not sure how bleeding the exhaust valve lifters and redoing timing caused such a drop in compression, evening everything out, but still totally fkd up.
I either do a leakdown on Tuesday or I take the head off before then.
Or I cut my losses.
Or I store it for the next year or two.

Good news for me.
The dam is getting a fully rebuilt transmission hopefully by mid August.

Now I'm wondering. Get the tpi tq converter?

You can get the stock converters restalled but I have no clue who even does that Haha

You gonna be hitting the track with it ? Weekend warrior ? Daily LOL?

I'll have to recommend ipt (import perfotmance transsmission ) they make so many goodies for us and I know they have tc for sale last time I was on there I think they even sell the kiggley flex plates LOL.
I'm running there whole kit for clutch packs they come with thicker steel plates to handle more heat .

So of your getting it rebuilt I'd look into the ipt stuff.

They have valve body mods to

I have so many snap rings and seals for the f4a33 1g tranny it's not even funny no clue what I'll do with em all bought the kit for pump seals and kickdown bands LOL

Also id reccomend you get your tcu rebuilt I'm kicking myself for not doing mine when it worked I still have it and it's an eprom that's 100% fried due to a leaky capacitors.
IT shorted the 5v rectifier IF! I remember correctly and fed the main CPU 12v I think it was the MH8011 cpu (I know I'm wrong but I'm close to the cpu # ROFL)

I ended up buying a chipped tcu for my laser and my God the shifting was worth the 300 $ price tag with 6 differnt tunes. (Each chip was made by someone named Dave and he charges 100$ per chip LOL) I have 3 LOL any ways let me know if you want your capacitors replaced I know @curt-s can do all this probably better than I can but offers out there.
I have all the capacitors in baggies still LOL from tiptop

Anyways sorry to bore ya

Yeah itp not tpi LOL.

I'm back in moose jaw. Went back to my last employer I know I'll get paid every 2 weeks here and the money is the same.

Got a shop in mj who does auto transmissions. Many good things are said by this guy

It's down for the count. Not sure WTF went on and when but cylinder 3, the worst compression-wise, has one pretty bad leaking exhaust valve and the other isn't as bad but still leaks.
Cylinder 2 i think has leaking intake valve(s).. or maybe it was #4
Cylinder 1 has pretty bad blow-by
of course, all cold.. but put it all together and i'm still surprised it didn't even want to try to start but maybe the battery is just that old it's not cranking fast enough. I forgot how fast it usually cranks.

Long story short, it's shot through and through. Either I rebuild bigger or I get out of the game.. still to be decided.

Go big like me..
2.3 over winter

Looking to sell house and move, so thats where the money should be mostly going. What I have put into it this year before even trying to start it was a stretch of what I should have done but I was committed to having my stress relief back on the road more than ever. Really, really bad timing.
Now, it did nothing but add to all other stresses. I really dont have much in the way of means for the foreseeable future, especially when factoring in no garage to do the work in anymore.

Finding a 4g64 is hopeless here. You underestimate how much this province sucks, in many, many ways.
If I could, would I? Hard to even say versus a 9.0:1 2.0L.

Didnt think you would give up !!!

at this point im just assessing what happened
definitely didnt have cyl #3 exh valve #2 valve kiss a piston so im not sure why it started leaking like a hose all of a sudden.
cylinders have minor scratches, nothing you can feel save for one <1in scratch over halfway down the bore. can feel but not so much catch a nail, but i dont have nails really. bores dont show skirt wear

my train of thought at this very moment is, except for cyl 3 that shit a valve, the others are fairly close to each other and its the battery not turning the motor over fast enough to get good compression.
maybe.

Looks like some chunks of carbon got caught on the valve seat on both the valve and the head seat surfaces. Thats potentially why it wouldnt seal up.. go figure. Perhaps, if it were able to have started, it might have dislodged or the ol italian tuneup would have worked but it was cooked on both pretty good. Head cleaned up with a rag, valve was cleaned by scratching it off.. go figure.
So it seems a big enough chunk of carbon breaking away from insude the combustion chamber can wreak its own particular brand of havoc.

At the very least, to get it all working again..

parts:
TB gaskets
thermostat gaskets
head gasket
cam seals x2
exhaust and intake manifold gaskets
exhaust manifold to turbine housing gasket
upgraded valve springs + retainers
new headstuds

machine work:
head and all valves cleaned
valve seat and backface grind/lap
head deck refresh (minor resurface)

and then take a chance on seeing if i have good compression afterwards.

oh, and a new battery. after running it dead flat over a winter some time sgo and boiling it due to dead voltage regulator in alternator before i saturn swapped, it might just not have the juice.
the first compression tests alone drained it 25% i found.

perhaps, perhaps.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Davidaus on the forum here? He messaged me about the engines I have, but doesnt check the forums often.

Thanks,

Garret.

Dam man you should have messaged me I would of came down with my 1000 cca battery LOL . Gotta see this thing on the road again

sigh, taking the chance. wife wants me to get it running again as well, who can argue with that?

dropped the head off for some minor work today

Been meaning to ask you I need a factory eprom chip to test my latest ecu build do you have one I could buy? I'm thinking about burning my own but want to atleast see if it works . The knock board might be no good due to someone removing the gel LOL and needs a new conformal coating

If you need any OD micrometers from 0-6 inches let me know they are accurate up to .0001 someones gotta use em LOL only bought them to blue print my crank

I need a micrometer to test installed valve spring height... but it looks like I will have to pay shop labour for that.

also need to start looking for a good batter ly thats not stupid expensive. will not be used in winter or stored outdoors during.
