So here's the deal. I recently purchased a 1996 eclipse RS for $300. Someone broke out the window and stole the radio. The seats are rusted from the inside and water soaked the carpet and ruined it. I don't know if the engine runs because the clutch wont engage because of a master/slave cylinder problem that I'm currently fixing. So I'm not completely sure it runs yet. That's the bulk of the issues it has. My real question is. Is it worth the 300 bucks? Should I keep it and try to fix it or am I just digging a deeper hole.

Thanks

Just crush it for scrap

All depends on how much you plan to sink into it and if you want to keep it or sell it. If the idea is for flipping it, I'd say it's not worth the time as running/driving GS/RS 2g eclipses can be had for around 1-2k, so putting money into this one doesn't seem logical unless you're going to do a complete ground up build.

The other option is to keep it for parts if the body is ok. Kinda nice to be able to pick off another car for the actual product, then dump it when you were used it all up.

No. And it should start even though clutch doesnt work.

So the clutch doesn't have to be engaged when you start it? Because I got a new battery and tried to start it and I just get nothing. No starter nothing. The only thing that happens the radiator fan comes on for some reason.

There is a clutch safety switch on the pedal assembly but the actual clutch does not matter

It doesn't need a clutch. just a master and slave cylinder as far as I know. The clutch pedal has no feel. Is there anyway I can get to this clutch safety switch and turn it off so I can try to start it. Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions I'm a noob.

I guess you could jumper the clutch switch to essentially bypass it, just make extra sure it's in neutral or off the ground when you do so it doesn't have a chance to lurch forward.

not 100% sure if 420a is the same but if it is just unplug the switch on the clutch pedal. It will be the one that activates when you push in, not the one at the top. If you can still push the pedal in just push it in. You do understand the car won't crank at all without this switch pressed? It's a safety switch . You push the pedal in and hold it to crank the car. Even if it's in neutral you must do this.
