Hello my name is looney.c I'm new to this whole DMC tuner world just recently bought my second eclipse before I had a chance to even do anything with the first one I got hit by somebody in a Kia of all things which subsequently totaled my car but didn't let that stop me and I purchased another one so now I

have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0/4cylinder 16 valve dual overhead cam non turbo
I bought the car non running was told that on the way home from work while in motion the car just shut off and never started again they said there was no power surg or los no moter stumble it was as if the key was just shut off and car just rolled to a stop and had to be towed home that is all I know. So far I replaced the fule pump, fule filter checked and cleaned the injectors cleaned the EGR valve changed the plugs and checked the ignition coil pack and plug wire's there good only thing I can think of is cam or crank shaft position sensors my question is how many of each dose this particular model have and wear are they located at on the vehicle if you can shed some light on this that would be extremely helpful and appreciated also if I missed something else perhaps I should have checked any advice would be also gratefully appreciated and welcome thank you

The cam sensor is known to go bad, its on the side of the cylinder head opposite the belts if I remember right, have you checked for any blown fuses? how about a compression test? the timing belt could have slipped, glad to see that you are passionate enough to find another car, I hope you enjoy everything about it, have you considered a turbo model?

First off thanks for taking the the time out to help me.So after posting this I went back out to work on the car again and immediately realized where the camshaft position sensor was my question now is do you know where the crankshaft position sensor is because unfortunately it got too dark for me to work on the car so called it a day.
I heard there were two crankshaft position sensors is this true an upper and a lower?
also I did check the fuses and I don't know if this helps but it's not throwing an engine code at all that's the part I don't understand I feel like I'm working in the dark but I don't want to have to keep replacing Parts by guessing because eventually what's going to happen if i do that is im going to end up with a rebuilt engine not that that would be a bad thing just not in the budget. Now you mentioned a compression test is there any way to check the compression without actually having to buy a compression test kit is there a DIY way of doing this Leslie a turbo model would be nice but I think I'm a little too old for that as far as drawing attention to myself maybe back in my younger days not that I'm old now but just a little too old to be living the Fast and the Furious lifestyle and in my opinion there's no point in having a turbo if you're not going to use it don't get me wrong I like going fast but I don't do it often enough to justify having a turbo

Cam position sensor: drivers side front of valve cover. Known to go bad, may also want to check for the magnet in the cam, there's one there IIRC.

Crank position sensor: rear of engine block toward passenger side under oil filter boss.
This has been the most common cause of shut downs and no starts for 420a engines that I've seen.

The sensors internal seals go bad and the sensor expands when hot, allowing oil into the housing which fowls the sensor out, killing the ignition and the car shuts down.

There's also an auto-shutdown relay that goes bad sometimes, but that's lapsed out of my memory over time.

A compression test needs a compression tester, you can usually borrow one from an auto parts store as long as you leave a deposit on it.

Check to make sure your 40amp Engine fuse is not blown.
