Hey everyone! So its been about 14 years since I last had a DSM! Recently I picked up somewhat of a project 93 talon tsi AWD. The ad said it had a built motor but was having fuel issues and couldn't get it to run. So one day after work I went to check the car out and had my buddy from RRE swing by to give it a once over since I have been out of the loop for so long! After my buddy Sam got there we popped a plug out and he stuck a camera in and sure enough it had forged pistons and can see the cylinder walls where freshly done. The head looked brand new including the valve train it even had cams (not sure what size) The kid I bought it from told me he added 670cc injectors and walbro 250 fuel pump but when turned on the fuel barley came out! Sam told me it was prob installed wrong (it was) and can be fixed easy! So I pulled the trigger and bought the car and had AAA tow it home!

p.s. i was a little worried because that car is from Missouri and had some rust. also the kid didnt know much about the car since he got it with all the motor work done and what not.

got it home and parked it next to my now wifes wrx (gave it to her so i could get the talon....balance)

First thing i did was to pull the fuel pump and sure enough it was an improper install!!! which i fixed

then the fix (i know the housing is muffed up! i will fix later)

reinstalled it half ass because bunch of hardware was missing along with cover for hole in trunk but the car ran!!!!! but really rough had to hold it at 2k or it would die. Sam came over that night and hooked up his PC to the ecmlink (forgot to mention that it had link with car) We found that car had bunch of shit going on with it... some connectors were for 2g and bunch of stuff wasnt wired correctly. also something were still trying to figure out is the ecu is jumping from 5% to 10% throttle which we checked harness from tps all the way to the plug of ecu and its fine which leaves me to believe its the ECU. anyway Sam got the car to idle at about 1k because of all the other issues. Thats when i also noticed oil was leaking from turbo.
After inspecting I saw return line only had one bolt in it and turned out to be a 2g one... holes didnt line up... which I tried to drill out and bolt back on.... didnt go so well

had some rain so took a break for few days!

ended up getting a down pipe, test pipe and cat back off ebay... test pipe didnt fit... downpipe feels off to but hey....ebay

man this engine bay is ugly!!!

So a local FB group had a guy selling bunch of stuff. I ended up getting a fp mani and a 16G (later found out i kinda got riffed off on that deal) also got a FMIC from him aswell!

so i also ended up getting a new o2 housng with dump which ended up hitting lower IC pipeing that i had to dent to clear. Also the radiator started to crack so scored a aluminum one from a local dsm guy that ended up being really cool dude and prob going to have him build me a new exhaust!

I bought an aluminum race intake mani that was cracked for $50 (score) Sam has it now and is welding it up! he is also going to weld on the bung for speed density set up aswell!
While taking the intake off I noticed that the kid i got car from installed the injectors with what im assuming was a hammer!!! the rail was missing some standoffs aswell

got the intake mani off and changed out a bad knock sensor aswell... man this car was rough!!!

while i was at it i ended up removing the AC and Power steering since i had to cut the lines to get the fmic on... after that i cleaned the engine bay up and man that made a difference!!!!

as it sits right now

should be picking up all the stuff from Sam soon so hopfully can get this turd on the road soon!!!

thanks man!!! btw see your profile says your from leesville!!! I use to be stationed Ft.Polk back in the dayyyyy!!! is there anything to do out there... in my day it was pretty much just walmart and the bowling ally on post!

I work on Fort Polk and there still isn't much to do here. Got a few new restaurants for this area over the last couple of years but all we still have is Walmart, bowling alley and the movie theater. Car scene is getting better as of late but still hard trying to get people together. I go to Houston pretty often though for car shows.

sooooooooooo some things have happened since last post. I started making good progress on the talon and while on a local FB group I saw a guy with a 91 talon shell for sale cheap with tons of stuff done to it.... I couldnt pass it up!!! remember my shell has some rust issues and this one is rust free! So I went to check to car out and decided to pull the trigger! The motor was still in the car but i offrerd to help remove it if it helps me get the car faster! luckly the guy i got the car from was super cool and were now buds! anyway here are some pics of all that..

now that i got the car home it was time to start pulling my motor out!!!

while the motor was out i decided to drop the pan and see what was in the motor... turns out it does have aftermarket rods and pistons!

after cleaning some stuff up its time to put the motor in the new shell!

ok so I things didnt really go as smoothly as i making it seem.... there was issue after issue from getting the motor out of the shell at my the guys house... to getting AAA to tow the car to my spot...they didnt want to because it didnt have a motor so had to tip the guy . I also had a nightmare with things not lining up!!!! tried using the tcase that came with the car but didnt want to slide onto the shaft on the tranny... then had an issue getting off the drive shaft... then had to clean up the old tcase and get fluid in it which was a nightmare to because i did it once it was in the car! but finally it was all bolted in and filled up! then came trying to get all the motor mount bolts in and everything aligned which was a pain! ohhh forgot to mentien the biggest pain in the ass... I had an issue getting the tcase on with the driveshaft on aswell... it was like the drive shaft was to long and the tcase wasnt to far forward.... so what i ended up doing was undoing all the motor mount bolts and lifting the motor with the picker a little to get it to line up!!!! all that to get 2 nuts on the driveshaft bearing carriers!

So NOOOOOWWWWWW the motor is all in and all bolted up! time for all the tedious shit! started connecting wiring and hoses... got done behind the block and wanted to see what it would look like with my aluminium intake on... which i just got a new gasket for.... then i saw it.... the ports are way off from the head!!! I asked my buddy Sam he told me i had a 2g head and he wouldnt run that mani..... which I am super bummed on! so i just ordered a used 2g intake mani last night... tell it gets here i still have plenty of other work to do!
