1G 13G turbo capabilities?

Hello, I've owned my 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD Turbo for about a month now and I'm starting to plan out my modifications I wanna make to it. Mine has the 13G turbocharger (it's a 4 speed auto), and I was wondering how much power it is capable of handling before breaking. Thanks :)

the 13g doesn't have enough flow on either the compressor side or the turbine side to make much power. I would start off your mods by upgrading the turbo and manifold

I’ve been messing with a 13g since the summer. You don’t need a whole lot of things to get all you can out of it. I managed to go 14.4@92 on pump gas at 4000’ elevation. On race gas and sea level I went 13.5@98. Biggest thing is since the turbine is so small is getting all the gases out.

So all in all you’ll want tuning that’s a big one, full exhaust, ditching the stock air box and maf for something better flowing, and porting. You don’t need a ton of boost. I’ll have to confirm but I think I was on 13-14lbs in second and third gear. Keeping the boost and exhaust pressures down help reliability but how much heat this little guy retains I don’t expect it to last long.

I just installed a different ecu and plan to pull a bunch more data and try to squeeze even more out of it this summer.
 
I loved the 13g, I went through two of them. Got rid of the auto manifold for a manual 1g manifold I had laying around. I usually ran like 12 lbs maybe a tad more. I had alot of fun daily driving the 13g to be honest.
The turbo is gonna go bye bye before anything else if you wanna go full send.
I would reccomend a shift box and either the manual manifold or a 2g possibly ported. If your gonna stay stock that is.
I went 16g then back to a 14b, because I loved the quick spool, of the smaller turbo. I'm probably not making great numbers but I dont care.

Damn your worse than me, every time i try something bigger than a 16g, I end up hating it and missing/wanting the fast spool so I switch back. Ive done it 3 times in the last year. Good thing Ive never tried the 14b, Id probably get stuck there if I did.

Hope you don’t mean for the 13g. The turbine housing inlet is small and offset compared to the TD05 turbine housings. Wouldn’t do any better than just porting out the step on the factory auto manifold.
 
Sure the 16g was fun, especially in the snow. I'd hit boost and break the tires loose. But the quick spool of the smaller turbo, makes it more fun to just drive car semi normally.

I had ported the turbine housing as well. I dont think it made a difference to be honest. But I had the manifold laying around, ohh I think I cracked the auto manifold when I blew the first 13g, learning how to use a boost controller.
 
I’ve done a few stages of porting of the manifold and the turbine housing. They all showed positive results. It is on a very small scale though. Like I said about the heat retention, I won’t have to much time on this turbo before I start running into major cracking problems. That’s even starting with a crack free manifold and a fairly mint condition turbine housing.
 
I'm sure you know this but, you cant jb welb a boosted manifold and turbine housing. It turns into a white powder real quick. I thought it would work, for a quick fix and was dead wrong, LOLz.

Good thing your careful with your porting.Ceramic coating night help. Might get called nuts for coating a 13g manifold but, if I did it all over again I might join ya in the nut house.

The rvr uses the 13g. I never looked Into if that manifold and turbine housing were more beefy, but just a thought.
 
Ya I did give that a try many many years ago LOL.

I did spend the money and had the turbine housing and manifold ceramic coated. It sure did make a difference in under hood temps. Not sure on the cracking yet. I’ll know when I swap this setup onto my fwd.
