1st and foremost I want to apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I do feel this will be the best area.
2nd I've been searching for days and couldn't really find any more info then what I'm about to post.
So I'm in the process of trying to modernize & semi restore my 1GA GSX. When I first purchased the car I was told it had a "stock freshly rebuilt" tranny & unfortunately 1st & 2nd gear grinds... that's not the issue as I plan to rebuild the transmission, but more so the shifter is sloppy. It is a 1990 & from what i've read on we have a different shifter assembly as well as different length cables (correct me if I'm wrong..) This brings me to the concerns I want to share.
I see only MachV motorsports as off right now sell the bushings needed to restore that feel in the "1990" shifter, RTM supposedly will be up and running soon. What I really wanted to know is that instead of spending $60 for these bushings is there any other shifter options that we can use ? I plan on driving this car in as many events as I can, (autoX, road course, drag, etc) so I know the driving will be hard.
I've seen one guy retrofitting what he says to be an EVO 9 shifter box into a evo converted mirage. I've asked what needed & his response was "I didn't like the way the stock assembly felt after I did the rebuild kit so I looked into a this. The newer shifter is a lot smoother since the pivot point is on a ball vs a tensioned spring. Another bonus was that it moved the shifter back towards me and i didn't feel like I was reaching for a shift. The best part is I shift into 3rd gear without punching my drink in my cup holder."
Has anyone tried putting an EVO 8/9 5spd shfiter in our cars ?
I've also found a thread dealing with an EVO 1 putting an EVO 4 shifter in his car. He shows pics of what he had to do in order to fit. I'm thinking since evo 1-3 share the same transmission mount way maybe it's just a matter of swapping cables & shifter box mount position ?

Now if we can somehow get all this information right I think that will give us plenty of options such as these below
CAE Shifter:

IRP Shifter:
https://www.irp.lt/individual-racin...subishi-lancer-evolution-v-ix-5-speed-gearbox/
I know these are a bit pricey options where we can put that money into something else, but I feel the investment is worth the price. From the review i've read of these shifters, people have loved the feel and to me besides the feel, both shifters are closer to the steering wheel which is an advantage in autox & road course.
I also feel an OEM Evo 8/9 5spd shifter is that much of an upgrade & a lottttt cheaper. At the end of the day I think this will be somewhat of a game changer as parts for our cars are slowly fading
