hi. I am new on having an automatic gst, and was wondering what performance upgrade you can do to the trans. So it holds longer and can take more power.

Let me know your wisdom on auto trans

Regards
Christian

I have auto also I just did catback intake and intercooler will upgrade my turbo later to 20g with upgrade fuel pump and injectors

shift box, front clutches from kiggly, end clutches and shift kit from ipt transmission. other than that and the dsm auto is pretty well bulletproof up until about 650whp.

Nice I'm working on the basic upgrade to get ready for a 20g

What happens after 650??

If you get the kiggley and ipt clutch oacks they are highly designed for drag racing so i have been told many many times, they are also thinner so will likely wear faster, whether this is 100% true i cannot say but ive been told this a few times by many members.

The shiftkit and trans cooler is a basic first step.

After that then a valve body mod with the tra slab shift kit is good and very good fluid helps wonders! I switched from RP max ATF to millers and it made it worse! So im going back to RP or get some redline ATF fluid,

Best fluid is the factory fluid.

need to get ahold of jeff bush for some billet stuff LOL
Whats made for the autos in billet? Apart from kigglys saddle clamp, thats the only billet thing i see for an auto trans in the box

Meh, for stock driving sure, anything other then that it needs better fluids with grip better, i liked the RP stuff, when i switched i noticed a delay in changes ehere it did not grip as fast

transfer gears and jeff also has a billet drum as well. kiggly also has the billet case for the front clutches as well

You dont want trans fluid to grip, you want it to be able to slip when it needs to, Atf+4 and better yet Diaqueen has the proper friction modifiers in it, I have been rebuilding these transmissions long before the auto became popular and I was in fact the FIRST person to use toggle switches to shift with, I just never told anybody about manually shifting with switches because I didnt know how the transmission hard parts would hold up to the slamming, so I have more experience with these auto's than probably anybody you will ever talk to, Kiggly knows alot about what breaks in the 800hp plus race scene if your making that kind of power, talk to him for that info.

Oh i remember now, yes i saw those, 1500 or so right, no transfer gears for me being fwd LOL,

I would like to know if pumps and solenoids can be modified

From what i found out faster shifting wears the clutches out much less, because they dont slip as much so the hest is not built up and transfered over.

When i said grip i dont mean like zero slip but like in the sense like it feels like it engages better, so thats when i mean grip, if it gets heat into it the engagement was better vs now where my millers gets warm it takes a smidge longer to feel the shift go through,

This is all my personal feeling and what i feel happens, i inly want to max out at 600-700hp eventually so fluid has to be top quality and since it has to last along time doing constant shifts it needs to withstand ALOT of abuse

the only thing youd need for the valve body is the shift kit. i dont think there is anything to gain messing with the solenoids. the pump i dont think nobody does anything with

I was wondering if modifying the solenoids would shift faster, the pump possibly just push it a bit better, but the trans shift kit is in my personal plans for sure,

Just trying to do as much as i can on it and get the most from it

Wow. So, there is a better option for my daily driving than Redline ATF High Temp trans fluid?

I run the first link, should i be running the 2nd one?

I looked at this aswel, when i spoke to Redline they said just get the normal D4 and that will do enough, i would have to go through my emails to get the 100% reason for his suggesting this

I would more than appreciate it if you had time to look.
My trans mods are:

Two Trans coolers. One has fan on it, mounted in bumper.
Shift Kit
Solid roll stops
ForcedFour shiftbox smart 100
Redline ATF High Temp fluid (Been running this for about 3 years in awd. 5 years in my gst)
Stock Trans otherwise.

Honestly, I don't think you can shift faster than the shiftbox already lets you. There are tons of options as far as pressure & even a "soft shift" setting. Which I plan to turn that back off. Just to see.

In my GST auto, I had a chipped TCU and it made a world of a difference. As well as the solid trans mount.

Some really bad info here and needlessly confusing for newbies.

For your goals and everyone else not wanting to go full racetard(retard + racecar):

Translab TL175-HP shift kit(get the one with the high pressure spring)
Bar and plate transcooler(any will do, so long as it’s not a tube and fin style)
Trans temp gauge(you need to monitor temps, heat is the #1 killer of these trans)
Optional: Shift Box or the Kiggly Manumatic shifter mod, will help with More control over shift points and generally increase the fun factor
ATF+4 trans fluid, or diaqueen. Period.
OEM Mitsubishi transmission filter. These last two steps are mandatory. You need to see the fluid and replace the filter. If it’s silvery or there’s a metric ton of shit on the magnets, time for a rebuild and then you might as well go full racetard with the trans as it will give you nothing but benefits and in my opinion give you no drawbacks.

For the more advanced guys you get into stuff like the kiggly clutches, billet dif saddles, straight cut transfer gears for awd guys, billet drums, high capacity trans pan, john deer hygard fluid, etc. but that’s another discussion.

God I miss my auto. LOL.
