1G GSX.. so I've used the search and read alot about people having this sputter issue under boost. my problem is this. I bought the car already modded, dude said it was big turbo and he threw the stock back on at stock boost 8psi. (no boost controller or boost gauge) so it boosts fine at stock level and a/fs are right around 11.5 - 11.8 full throttle but feels EXTREMELY slow. so i tightened up all the intercooler couplers and intake couplers, suddenly feels quicker BUT im getting the sputter almost instantly sometimes around 3500rpm. so I gap the plugs to .28 (NGKbr6es) bought new Accel 300+ plug wires, cleaned my IAC valve (nothing to do with it but someone mentioned it so I cleaned it cuz it was free) also bought a hpe boost controller and turned it up a bit, sputters hardcore still, turn it to stock boost, slight sputter but again slow as crap!! if I turn it up even a hair it sputters like no other but I can feel it wants to pull before that. havent messed with my coil pack but I want to try everything else first. would a boost leak that im missing cause this? also it needs new gaskets at the cat would an exhaust leak have anything to do with it? im stumped and super disappointed. *EDIT* I should add that the car has a/c delete, egr delete, abs delete, timing chain delete. car is basically fully modded besides the 14b turbo, tuned on a big turbo supposedly but the a/fs are right on at stock boost and when I turn it up.

not sure the brand but it's big and I believe too big for this tiny turbo if thats possible?

I'll post a pic of it. also would the test show if its leaking out of the bov or do I test that separately? I've never done a leak test before.

Read every sticky thread at the top of this PAGE. Follow the guidance given there and fill out your profile. We have no clue what mods are included with "car is basically fully modded besides the 14b turbo”. We need more information to possibly help you.

I made a car profile man. also im not 100% exactly what it all has. dude said internals are stock. I know it's not a fuel cut issue cuz I had that problem on my old one. when it sputters it's not blowing off either it's just popping out of the exhaust which is full 3". not sure what kind of o2 housing it has but it is aftermarket. stock Wastegate stock hotside as far as I can see. not sure if its ported I havent taken things off. also when it starts to sputter it continues to try and climb through the rpms just very slowly

Yes, you do have a profile currently filled out but that profile is far from being useful because you do not know what you bought. I would suggest looking into what is actually on the car to get a better idea of what is happening.

You list unknown injectors but not stock. You really need to know the size. Pull one and if they are aftermarket the cc could be on the injector. Furthermore, if you have a larger injectors and if it was previously “tuned on a bigger turbo” what tuning solution is being used? No tuning solution is listed at all.

i asked all these questions when I originally bought the car. he bought the car from a dealer and it was already modded and tuned. the car had rod knock so all he did was throw a different bottom end on and go over the the head and the rest of the car to make sure it was in running order. said it had a t3 50 trim he kept that and put the 14b. doesnt know the tune. I will pull an injector and look and would there be a way to find out what it was tuned on? there is a usb cord coming through the center vents which is now a gauge pod. could it be possible the tune or injectors would cause a sputter issue? because it is not fuel cut and my airfuels are almost perfect.

so I noticed some fluid near 1 injector guessing the oring is leaking so I am ordering a new seal set. I was able to see the injectors without pulling them they are evo8 560cc

I'd run a legit catch can... also is that a td04 turbo from an auto dsm 13g... it should be a td05h to be a 14b...
...I could be wrong, it's sort of hard to tell from the image you posted, but from how I can read it looks like tdo4h to me, you should get the numbers off of the turbo, and look them up on here, so you know exactly what turbo you are running.

holy shit man I was thinking my old 14b was a td05 housing but it's been so long I didnt look it up!! I was also reading into the catch can if that would benefit more than having the breather. where would I have the catch can return line go to? was thinking that is possibly the problem. thanks for the advice

well normally the breather goes into the intake tube on a stock setup, but just having a breather filter vent in place like in the image above, would get some oil under the hood, and makes for a potential fire hazard, I doubt it's the real issue your having, but it's just something I felt I should mention, if you were running an after-market catch can it would have a return lines routing the crank gases back into the valve cover, or it would have a vent on the can, but it would also have a container to trap most of the oil, i think if it were me I'd see what happens when you change spark plugs, maybe try going to a colder range bpr7es, and for sure Boost leak test it to whatever psi you plan to run or should be running, maybe clean the injectors when you replace the o'rings , I also think you should pull the ecu and find out what engine management setup the po was using, I'm guessing it has a wide band, I hope it's an accurate one, these are just a few things I'd look into if it were me.

cool will do, the breather doesnt leak oil or atleast hasent yet but I've read having that can work against the motor under boost and feel down on power in some cases. It's an aftermarket intake and all the inlets have been welded shut so I would have to tap and make my own or get a different intake. new plugs are on the list for sure I will try the 7s. it's a pro sport wideband also have an aem eugo with wideband and boost in 1 that is in the car just dont have the o2 plugged in for the aem at the moment but I will set it up and compare the 2. I plan on running 20psi on an actual 14b. I'll read up on how to clean the injectors and possibly have them flow tested. I've never had an actual tune on my original gsx I just used an safc1 and wideband so I dont really know what im looking for when I pull ECU. I've heard to also check the capacitors. I have lots of reading to do

well if you pull the ecu out of the car, you can check the case for part numbers to make sure you are running the right ecu for the car, also you can open it up and see if it has a custom e-prom for the bigger 560 injectors, or if it's running dsmlink jackal or some other engine management, an SAFC or piggyback controller could also work on the cheep side, but I'd recommend saving up and getting ecmlink if you decide you want to make a lot more power in the future, it's a lot easier to tune with and lots of support for diy tuning, pretty much lots of good features for the money, also when you check the capacitors inside the ecu mother board it would be a good idea to check the ISC drivers on the ecu board as well for cracking or damage, of course you'd want to look over all of it closely for any damage or burn marks or odd smells etc.

Dont know if you ever got this figured out but I had a similar issue and it was because of a cracked injector. That small leak will make a huge difference in the way the car runs

thanks Ayylts I am starting to think it might be a fuel issue because I went and got some new one step colder plugs and once I did that I noticed on my wideband when the sputter starts and the power lags my A/Fs all the sudden lean wayyyyy out. it weird tho it's not like a fuel cut feeling? but I am going to start with injectors and check the fuel pump and sock filter next

will do. what exactly am I looking for when checking the fuel rail? also it has some sort of aftermarket fuel filter I've never seen before (think it's a filter?) says fuellab on it heres a pic. dude also said it has a Wally255 but im not so sure only because I cant hear that infamous wining sound. the other 3 wally's I've owned on 3 different cars all had the wine. havent popped the pump yet tho I will
