I'm building a 10pt cage right now and after starting the project I am incredibly thankful I did not buy an off the shelf cage. I didn't realize before, but as you start rolling bars and seeing gaps here and there its easy to become anal and want everything perfect. After working countless hours to make mine fit as tight as possible, I would never buy a non-custom cage unless it was going in a gutted, drag-only car.

if I have one built for the car it would be over $2000. not something I can just drop on this car. the cages that im looking at fit close enough to the interior that id be perfectly fine with. the other bars in the kits im looking at might need some massaging/ shortening but that's not going to be too bad. I just don't have access to a bender to build my own.

I know the feeling as I am currently in a rent house between purchasing a new home and do not have the space or a place to do mine, but i'm making it work.

It really is not as expensive as you would expect though. You can get a tubing roller, which will make everything fit 10000 times better than a bender in our cars, from harbor freight and the parts to make it a high quality piece for less than 300 dollars total. I believe my 1.75 .120 wall dom was 82 dollars a stick and It takes about 5 of those. So you're looking at 800 plus a tubing notcher and angle grinder. I'm not suggesting you do it yourself, I just know from all the searching I've done on here there's really not much info on cage building so it may be an ill-informed subject.

I'm right there with both of you when I get to the point of needing a cage i rather build it myself (I want to do as much as I possibly can myself). Don't want to spend the money on a shop customizing one for my car and don't necessarily want to buy one that fits really good but not exactly how i would like.

If we were able to have more info on this site as far as cage building goes that would be awesome. I read a lot of build threads where I think the most useful information generally is when it comes to pertaining to what I/someone would want to do with their own car. But the cages don't seem to get much love, unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. I think my favorite cage so far is @Mark L cage, it is a work of art.

@OH91awd love the steering wheel.

I was worried about that when I ordered mine but fedex didn’t make me sign for it thankfully.

I thought about making kits for the 1g guys since they do require custom brackets. I no longer own my 1g so that won't be happening anymore LOL
should still make them though LOL ive got the brackets partially made up for mine. havent had much time to mess with them any though.

and we have cage! LOL
