so I am on a budget right now and i wanted to ask what the difference between these 2 turbos are
https://goo.gl/2K1jby
https://goo.gl/cQNJqA

they are both from the same seller and they both look the same but one specifically says its a garrett turbo the other says its their own in house brand
i would like to have a reliable turbo but given im on a budget and i need my car running do you guys think its worth the risk buying the cheaper turbo? it looks like its a t28 core inside a t25 housing so i dont know how that will limit performance in any way or if its even a legit t28 core inside of it and not some china charger core

my current setup is a stock 2g with BCS pill removed, a pod filter(came with the car), and a GFB evo 9 recirculation valve but i plan on upgrading everything, RC750cc injectors, wally 255, 3in turbo back exhaust, FMIC and a tune

i know if i get the cheaper turbo i will just be running the 14.7-16psi my car runs now but i would like to eventually run 20+psi which the real t28 can do

the better half of me is saying get the garrett turbo and do it right the first time but im really on a tight budget

any insight would be appreciated

For the money of the cheaper turbo you stated above you could find yourself a good condition mhi 16g with all the install hardware that you'll need. Also the transition to a fmic will be a little easier in terms of piping later on.

Search for Justmx141 on this website. Justin rebuild turbos and he might have something in stock for you at a much more reasonable price. He can also recommend you something for your goals that you have for your car as well.
FYI, I've been running a a rebuilt 20g from Justin for almost 2 years now. My turbo has seen a few drag track days and many, many pulls and it still runs well.

I agree with picking up a 16g. You can find them anywhere from $250-350 shipped and PayPal'd. Up to you which you can find and your goals (S16G, Evo 3 16g or Big 16g). Get a used jpipe for $20-40 and you're all set. Then you know for a fact you have a geniune mhi turbo that will last. The suggestion for Justin is also good - he's been rebuildng turbos since I can remember and is awesome. Can't go wrong either way!

Rule #1, NEVER fawk with an Ebay Turbo if you have any love for your whip whatsoever.. Rule #2, see rule #1..

Save up and get a name brand Turbo/look on here as there are turbo setups for sale all the time or reach out to Justin as stated above..

I'll check them out thanks

eBay is a market place, I buy name brand stuff from there at discounted rates all the time, that's where I bought my GFB valve I currently use. I know what I can and can't use from generic eBay sellers and a turbo is not one of them which is why I'm asking about both turbos with one being a legit Garrett T28

I wouldn't bother with either turbo. Contact @JusMX141 and see if he can get you a replacement. you're almost never going to come out ahead buying stuff on eBay.

I'll check him out as well thanks .

Also everyone there is a local turbo shop I'm thinking I should check out. Are there any downsides to buying a rebuilt turbo vs a brand new turbo? I'm leaning towards staying with Garrett turbos just because I don't want to have to change oil and coolant lines. I haven't swapped a turbo before so this is literally something I'm going into head first with no experience, but at the same time I don't really want to blow $900 on a new turbo if I can get a small 16g or something for cheap. I assume coolant lines are not hard to swap over? Also how different are the lines compared to a Garrett turbo and are there are companies selling an install kit? I would try eBay but for turbo related stuff I'd like to avoid generic parts unless it's simple things like piping.

Rebuilt turbos are the way to go. I bought my small 16G used and never rebuilt it since it had virtually no shaft play. I chose the S16G because of it's similarity to the stock t25 with quick spool up. It came with a SS feed line but everything else is stock. Coolant lines just need to be bent a little and you can use the stock oil drain.

Is there a specific reason you're replacing the t25?

The T25 is smoking and puking oil on my driveway. I still need to tear everything down to actually see what the issue is but I'm pretty sure there is a bad seal in the turbo causing the oil to leak out and burn.

Just kind of figured I would swap it for something bigger and a little more fun, I'm mainly looking for street ability so I don't want to have too much turbo lag

I did find a parts car on Craigslist and it has almost everything I need outside of fuel system mods but I'm 90% sure the 16g on that car is an China charger since the owner didn't want to tell me if it was legit or not. I'm still kind of tempted though since that car has a manual trans and I'd like to have one in the event I decide to do an auto to manual conversion.

You can find used t-25s and such for $100 but of course they are used. If you want to switch to a 16g you'll need extra parts and you can search to see all you need.

im aware, i have fuel system mods planned to support the turbo upgrade as well as a retune

last thing i want is for my engine to grenade itself, it might be the first time im modifying my DSM but its not the first car i have modified, i just want to show my DSM the love it deserves

16g ftw! I run small 16g on both my cars n they rock! evo 16g if u don't mind a little lag. t28s are good I considered it back when I had a t25 but... for 9 bills hell no bud, that's a 16g bigger injectors wally 255hp and fmic. mhi will get you there and more for much cheaper

@JusMX141 for a turbo and/or rebuild! OEM or bust! With "eBay" turbos...you're running the risk of MOST LIKELY buying the turbo twice. Meaning, replacing the junk turbo with a turbo of quality. For the cost of the turbo initially mentioned, you can have a nice 16g setup which is a great turbo...as well as bolt ons on your wish list. Easily...a fun car with bolt ons

How is the lag with the 16g .My car is an auto Spyder, it's a street car so drivability is a must for me .

Got my T28 from the well respected JusMX141. It did everything I was looking for, a bit more power, especially from a dead stop going uphill. Crappy traffic signals on my mountain!
Was there a huge lag difference between the T28 and the T25? With my car being an auto and a street car power under the curve is what I'm mostly looking for, I don't race the car so peak numbers don't really matter to me I mainly just want a car that drives nice and has a little more power than stock.

My gfs car is an auto 2g spyder as well. Evo2 16g. Mods are intake pipe, Greddy upper pipe w/Greddy bov catback, and mbc and she loves the car. Will be throwing in an Evo3 intake in soon to help with flow, as well as a pump and some injectors and a downpipe

I really didn’t notice any difference. It likes to be 2500 or higher to get boost well correlated with pedal height, I’ve also got an evo8 bov which direct fits and eliminates the prior leaky plastic 2g one.
