Here's a tricky one , got this turbo in a junk yard, mitsu exhaust side , Garrett chra, and a large compressor cover.

I think I know what the turbo is my question is: Is this worth spending money on in order to use this for my DSM? I'm thinking the compressor is a little small which would probably require replacing the turbine + compressor housing right?
I'm into this for maybe $100

Here is the turbo

About my build: 2.3L (in progress)
Parts I have: FP exhaust housing
Parts I need: turbo + exhaust

edit: I'm willing to get rid of either the turbo or the housing in order to go in the direction that would most benefit the build.

Just picked up a 95 GSX and I noticed something I’ve never seen after owning 3 2Gs. The inlet for the intercooler is mounted on top of the turbo can anyone tell me why? Also I’m trying to do a boost leak test but I’d have to take that piping off will I need a new gasket? Or does it not need a gasket? Pictures attached

Compressor housings on 14B and 16G turbos exit like that.

You can just get away with RTV on those surfaces many times. Always worked just fine for me way back when I had a 16g.

Okay thank you for the help. The markings I see on the housing is TD05H and I also see I think it’s 19178-0 can anyone help me determine what it is?

I believe I have a genuine based on the pics. It’s the small 16g, my question is I’m pretty sure no 2Gs came stock with this, so what is the small 16g from?

You sure about that? The font/lettering on the second turbo matches pictures of a genuine MHI EVO3 16g on ExtremePSI:

https://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.php?productid=16296

Notice the difference between the stamped 7 in "47" on the first turbo you posted, and the similarity between the 7s on the second turbo, and this one on ExtremePSI.

im sure here is the full picture of the genuine MHI

The one on Extreme PSI is just a way newer one. Look at the number after the S, its a 10 digit number on the Extreme PSI picture but it only 9 digits on the one i posted up.

You can also tell a genuine one because it has the mitsubishi diamond star on the wastegate actuator and turbine housing. at least on the evo 16g

Huh, very strange. I wonder if there were different runs on the compressor housing? I have a genuine MHI 16g on my bench that matches the pictures on ExtremePSI, and has that same font as your first turbo...

I wouldn't call this a knockoff. Unlike the usual cheap ebay knockoff with TURBOCHARGER written on them...this unit actually uses Mitsu parts and is rebuildable with Mitsu parts. Id use this turbo all day any day every day without hesitation :)

You shouldn't have to remove the jpipe to do BLT.

Hello!

I was given this used turbo from a friend of mine and could use some help identifying the model. We both thought it was an Ebay turbo, but I later saw the “FP“ logo was etched into compressor housing.

On the compressor housing are the numbers 49179-520 0 as well as 1/3 and 5E.

On the turbine housing are the numbers 78-13700, 070, and F5. On the opposing side of the housing are the numbers 23 and X04.

On the CHRA, on each side, is an FP logo just between the water coolant inlet/return.

Below are pictures attached. If you could provide guidance as to what I have, please let me know! I don't have my vernier caliper, so I couldn't tell you the measurements of the inducer/exducer at the moment, but if need be I can get ahold of it tonight and get measurements. I need to know what turbo this is prior to buying intercooling piping to weld up so I can ensure I buy the correct size. I e-mailed Forced Performance with no answer. Thanks guys.
