I'm having a problem when my car is warm, and when I do get it started it runs fine but I smell fuel inside and outside the car. Any suggestions on what it can be?

Just for a quick check you can pull the injectors and check the o-rings. I usually go to O'Reilly and Advanced parts stores. Tell them you need o-rings for your injectors, they're silly cheap and easy to replace.

If it's not the o-rings you might have a leak where one of the soft fuel lines attaches to a hard line. Sometime the hose get dry and brittle over the years. Are you noticing any drips under you car? Esp. look back where your rear wears would be and where the firewall would be.

I changed those lines to steel braided lines but it's still doing it I even changed the o-rings on the injectors

Yeah so I start it kinda of choke then the car starts then I smell gas inside and outside the car

Coolant Temp Sensor. Make sure the connector wires are not broken. If not, id replace it. Doesn't cost much.

Yeah I just replace that sensor. It's when my car is warm my car clicks once and wont start. I'll have to give it a little gas then turn it over then after a couple tries it starts. Someone told me that it might be my ignition solenoid.

Which coolant temp sensor did you replace? People often mistake it for the coolant temp switch....

And it's not carbureted, you don't need to pump the gas before starting

I think the earlier posts are suggesting that you can't give it any gas before you start it. It's not possible. If you are moving the gas pedal to any position prior to start that doesn't do anything.

If you can smell Fuel and you are certain it is inside the car and not just coming through the vents you need to find the leak. It's the fuel smell is simply from the motor receiving too much fuel the only way you can smell it inside the car it's probably because it's coming through the vents. If you crank it a lot and it doesn't start check the cylinders and see if they're wet. How has your gas mileage been lately? I am thinking a possible coolant temp sensor issue as well but without knowing how much fuel is being delivered via a Data Logger or some other method it's difficult to say.

Well the way I see it with the cool temp sensor...its a cheap replacement so might as well mark that off the list L O L Each time I had this issue with personal or others DSMs, it was that damn sensor 99% of the time failing. Simply cause of age or wires breaking at the sensor plug and then not even knowing it

That could be likely but a datalog would show you for sure. Even if you replace the sensor you don't know without logging. Even the cheap elm devices work well for this. I'd like to know definitively is the gas you're smelling delivery or do you have a leak. Leak should be plainly obvious

Ok so I replace that sensor like one year ago so where is the other sensor you guys are talking about

It would be the ECT Sensor

If you EVER smell raw fuel you have a leak, use the ever complex tool AKA your nose to find it. Start sniffing every part of the fuel system till you find it. Who cares about the starting issue, I'd be more concerned with a possible fuel leak.

I concur but im not convinced its raw fuel or just a rich exhaust. Raw fuel should be obvious. Very strong. OP?
