As most of the 420a people know our crankshaft is in girdle. I have all of the bolts out except the one by the oim fiktee housing. I tried getting a wrench and it was so tight I couldn't get the wrench to turn. So I thought maybe an impact will work. I get the socket on and the bolt gets striped. Does anyone have any ideas??

It's been a while since I had a bottom end apart but I don't recall any troublesome fasteners the last time I split the bedplate apart.

I'm not sure how to come at this. My wrench won't grip on it.

You have to take the aluminum oil filter plate off to get to that bolt. It’s the only way to do it. Even if you get it loose, you won’t be able to fish it out of there.

How would I do that?

How do I get this pulley off?

That hex part inside the aluminum plate. It’s threaded on both sides of the hex. Once that is out slowly pry the aluminum plate up. There is a pin that keeps it from spinning. Be careful not to shear it off.

How do I get this pulley off?

With one of these. Autozone should have them for rent.

I don’t believe the flywheel has to come off. There is no interference between the two.

Typically you remove it before so the engine can go on a stand.

An impact gun typically makes that easier esp if those bolts haven’t been loosened in a long time/ever.

I'd use my air impact but the compressor is dead. So I tried my electric half inch impact and nothing. Not even a budge. But any tips on removing the compressor? I've got 2 out of the 4 removed but I can't get the bottom two removed?

And. The flywheel does have to come off. Unless me moving and it moving the crank does something else?

Yes. Taken them to a machine shop... unless you have access to a hydraulic press. If you are sticking with a press fit rod (oem style), have the machine shop press them back in.

to get the pistons and rods out of the block, your gonna wanna get a few cans of PBblaster. start spraying the PB on the top of the pistons and cylinder walls. once the liquid is about a 1/4" above the top of the piston. leave it for a few days then check it, refilll they cylinders with PBblaster when needed. once it get to where you can add PB and the next day its gone. let me know and i'll tell the next step.

The one I linked, I have used several times to get the crankshaft sprocket off the crank with out issue. That said the OEM tools do always work the best... esp with how rusty the crank is...

my bad. i saw the red box and thought it was the one from autozone.
