Any 4G63 knowledgeable and reputable engine machine/build shops in Caliifornia?
Looking to get three stroker short blocks built.
2.2L 91 DSM 6-bolt
2.2L 99 DSM 7-bolt
LR2.4L 99 DSM 7-bolt
I've heard of Dave's Engine Machine in the Bay Area, but apparently they're busy and expensive.
A shop being busy is a good thing, but damn, they say to leave a message and they'll get back to you in the order received. Then they're by appointments only.
It's been 3 weeks since I've called and nothing.

I am willing to ship my parts out of state, but I'd rather try a local shop.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty much the same as out of state but Millennium Motor Sports in Temecula CA is awesome and can do that work.

Full Function used Robs Machine Shop in Hayward, and they are who I used to build my G4CS. They did the works. Though that was 6 years ago or so..

Awesome, thanks for the heads up!

Right on! How's that 2.4L holding up for you?

This shop did both my head and Andrew Brilliant's, but not sure they have any 4g63 short block experience.

edit - hmm site goes to a black page. Try them on Facebook:

Yeah, I know about TEM Performance and it's a shop I've considered in the past.

Two AB Spec Aero cars in back to back posts, Nice!

I believe AB had a Magnus LR2.4L rotating assembly and his head done by TEM.

Thanks for the tip!

Question though.
Why ship your parts across the country for head work?

Del's Machine in Sacramento. They are easy to work with and great prices. They know their stuff. Went there after recommendations from another local DSMer

Thanks for the tip.
I'm 40 miles from Sacramento.

I'd would check out Millenium Motorsports in Temecula. Greg really knows his stuff and has his own dsm that he uses for autocross and other events. Had him build my 6 bolt block and 7 bolt head

Damn, that looks clean.
How's it running?

Thank you for all of your responses.
If you don't mind me asking, what's typical machine shop costs assuming the crankshaft is ready to drop in?
I'm estimating $1,500-$2,500.

Thanks bro. I just need a few more parts to finish my build, but excited to see what it does. There is a local dsmer who's car is making 650+ and had his motor done by the same shop. Don't have the receipt with me at this moment, but it was somewhere just a little over 2k for me. I'm gonna keep the forums updated on the build and let you guys know.

Greg at Millenium also did a 2.3l 6-bolt for me and a 2G head with 1mm oversized valves and a bit of port work to match the gaskets. Was a little over 1k, I provided crank, rods, and pistons.

Nice!!
Do you know if Greg build a 7-bolt 4G63/4G64 motor?
What rotating assembly parts did you use in your build and was it all balanced?

Ahh yes...
What all did you have done to the block and head?

I ran the numbers and it appears that in order to build a high quality LR2.4L short block locally it'll cost ~$5k.

I paid $330 for a gently used OEM 4G69 crank that's been inspected, cleaned and polished.
It looks fantastic, but I need to remove the sludge trap plugs and get it thoroughly cleaned an then drilled and tapped for removable plugs.
Then it's $60 to get it magnafluxed, $200 to balance it to 1/4 of a gram and then $400 for nitriding, ouch...
~$990 total into an OEM 4G69 crankshaft
~$800 156mm MAP ultimate duty 6-bolt rods to run the wider 6-bolt rod bearings and to have the big end narrowed for precise rod/crank thrust clearances and also narrow the pin end for proper piston clearance.
~$800 JE Pistons w/9310 alloy steel pins << looking for an asymmetrical skirt Ø87mm piston with a much better alloy steel for road racing.
~$70 ARP main studs
~$105 King XP Race Main/Rod Bearings
~$2,800 just in parts shipped
~$2,000 in machine shop charges and assembly.
~$4,800

I can do this
https://englishracing.net/collectio...ts/9-english-racing-2-4l-long-rod-short-block
and be done for less than $4,800.
But that's only if ER does everything and then some to the crankshaft like I listed above included in their $4,250 price.
If so, then it's a no brainer.
Go with ER and don't look back.

.

I used an Eagle crank, manly h- beam rods, and wiseco pistons. Yes he fully balanced my rotating assembly including my flywheel, pressure plate, and harmonic damper. This was back in 2009, I lost the paperwork long ago and I don't recall the tolerances.

Nothing fancy, kept it a 2.0
Block
Balanced and resurfaced
Polished Crankshaft
Je pistons
Manley rods
Arp mains
Torque Plate Bore (.020) and Hone job
Main and Rod bearings
Head
Kiggly Racing Springs/Retainers
Valve job
Supertech valves
bronze valve guides and seals.
Drilled headstuds for 6 bolt.

Goal is to have a 500hp+ car that I can daily drive anywhere. Excited to see what it can do

Nice, that's great news on your build.
Individually balancing your flywheel, pressure plate and harmonic dampener will greatly diminish any lame harmonics those three components will impart on the crankshaft at high rpm.

Awesome build!
What's the rest of your set-up?

I FB messaged millennium motorsports Saturday at 9am and at 9:30pm I was pleasantly surprised that Greg got back to me and told me to call him at the shop this morning.

I did, but he was busy.

He called me back at 12:30 today and we spent almost an hour chatting about my build.
Man, I have to say I'm extremely impressed with Greg, and I thank you all for mentioning Millennium to me.

My buddy has a 1g GSX.
What all needs to be done to run a 2g head and intake manifold on a 6-bolt block in a 1g car in California?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

I heard back from ER, let's just say I'll never do business with them.
