So, I rebuilt my engine, when I pulled it, it ran fine besides the engine having less than 80psi compression. Getting to he point, when I turn the key to the on position, I get dash lights, can use blinkers, but I can not use hazards, or turn on any interior lights or headlamps. Tail lamps do not work either. When I go to turn it over, all that happens is the fuel pump goes on, and nothing else. No starter click or anything.

Okay, I fixed most of it, it was the alternator fuse, but the starter still doesn’t kick out or turn over, and the fuel pump only turns on when I hold the key in the start position.

The only time the pump will turn on is when you are trying to crank the car so that part is working correctly. Do you have the spade terminal on the starter so it see's the start signal? Double check your starter connections.

Something still isn't right. Fuel pump shouldnt turn on until motor moves. If starter didnt move motor didnt move.unless this car has a modified fuel pump circuit.

Paul are you sure? I can be and probably am wrong, but I was under the impression that the ECU will throw the signal to the pump relay when the key is turned to start. Thanks for giving your expert advice, you've done DSM's a lot longer than me. :thumb:

Thank you guys for your help, it’s kicking out the starter, but not turning it now, was a loose connection. I am getting full power to the starter, tested it. I am going to pull it, and try and rebuild it with one of my many other starters.

On 1gs, the fuel pump circuit is not turned on until the motor is turning. I believe the MAF is what triggers the ecu to tell the MFI relay to turn on.

Maybe the CAS then. My 90 only has that and I've ran (barely) with a maf not connected. Nice to exactly know for diagnosis. Thanks.
