We went out to Pocono Raceway this weekend with EMRA, running the South East course. Got there Friday night and unloaded the car and slept in the truck with the wife and pooch. Went out for first session doing a lead follow since I had never been there before. After a couple laps, I was pointed by and let loose on track LOL. Encountered a problem that became reoccurring that ultimately ended my day early. The studs on the turbo manifold on the block side came out on track. I was able to find a hardware store a few miles down the road and grab some grade 8 bolts with lock washers, got them in and went for the third session. Went faster, but again, lost the same two fasteners. And it annihilated the gasket so that was my day. Not sure where we ended up in class, but judging from the times I DID see, probably a top 5. A great time as always running with EMRA. If you're in the Northeast, I recommend going out to a couple events with them as they really hold a great event. We don't go back out till NJMP in August, so we have time to buckle down on the car and make some changes. Can't wait to go back out there and learn some more. I also need to put a real tire on the car since I'm driving through the Direzzas pretty quick. Hope everyone had a great weekend working on their DSM's or going out for a good drive!!!

I can't even begin to describe the pain those f&*$%#g bolts have caused me. About 4 track days wasted, gaskets blown, lock washers that don't do squat. Here is my latest solution but I have yet to track test it.

That was one idea we were playing with. Gonna try the inconel studs from full race first though. Gonna retap the manifold for 10×1.5 and slam the studs in. Hopefully that works. Let me know how the safety wire works for you. It's good to know about other options for keeping the damn turbo in the car.

I got the results today, and even with the turbo practically hanging off the manifold, I was able to win both my sessions and come in 3rd overall in my class. I really need to go to a DOT slick since I keep getting beat out by guys on them. But 300 a tire for R7's is a toughie. Hopefully soon though.

I say this all the time but get studs made, go stud and nut route and 90% of your issues will be fixed! Claming loads are much much better, i made mine based from research i seen that bolts in turbos just dont work, evo builder that comes into my work has endless issues with bolts backing out or snaping

He was using studs, then bolts i believe. ive never had issues with this though LOL hope the inconel studs work well for you, I'd still double nut it to drive that stud in hard, having a stud with a torque tube works nicely too

Ive never seen anyone else use studs specifically for the turbine housing type anyway,

The inconal ones are they them stage 8 brand ones?

All the manifolds i make and have made for other companies are threaded at the turbo flange most do use studs in the manifold rather then bolts which seize and then your screwed cause the bolt head

These bolts were a problem for me last year. I'm trying nord-lock washers (http://www.nord-lock.com/nord-lock/wedge-locking/washers/introduction/) along with safety wire this year to hopefully prevent it from happening. Oddly I had no issues with just the OEM bolts and OEM conical washers for many many years prior, with the problem showing up after replacing the turbo and manifold even though I used new oem bolts/washers along with basically the same style turbine/manifold (Forced Performance).

Had studs in there originally. The bolts I used were the only thing the hardware store in town had. There's a couple ideas we're playing with.

I saw a video of these being tested as very impressed/curious. I would like to get these as well. Or getting the studs where the nuts have the lock tangs and E clips. I think it's trackspeed or something like that. Definitely need to figure it out soon though. Got three months before NJMP.

Try useing some flanges locking copper nuts, this is the route i have decides to go, the brand i forget but they are American and i can get it once j get to my other garage, the head is crushed a bit so it jams it on, sota like a K nut

I know a guy for custom titanium lock nuts you can see the grooves, it's a bad pic but all i got

Those copper ones posted above with the crushed top work well also, forced performance sells these for their exhaust flange studs, and i use them, after you remove and install them a bunch of times you'll need to re crush the top though, or else the threads straighten out and they are easy to thread on/off like a standard bolt, but when they are new they work very very well.

This is the stud and nut kit i did, made from EN24T it should be perfect and never come out

I have those on the head flange. But again, the problem isn't the nuts loosening up. It's the studs backing out entirely from the manifold. Gonna have to come up with something.

If clamped well the stud should never back out, its just like head studs and flange studs, worse case drill a hole in the botom of the stud and pin it

Lol......"shouldn't". Just strange that it was the same two holes both times.
i can only imagine they was at bottom limit of there tap size so it could have been a very loose thread so never had the true force of the threads, ive known similer before.

Great shots, nice of him to send them to you
