I started my own thread so as not to thread-jack... But no hits... But can anyone tell if this list is the same as list one would need for a 1g? Im sure there's more people wondering..

And has anyone tried g37 or 370z 14" rotors with these calipers? (Since the stock V is 14..) or are the 13s the best you'll snug under some 17s

I guess I will contribute a little more. These pictures were taken on 2014 chevy ss. It's about 150mm. I am not sure if they are the same as ctsv but I guess close. Anyways they are thicker then the Evo and by cutting 5mm of the mounting tabs i am not winning anything. So that sucks but I would still like someone to measure their ctsv calipers. Maybe the older once were smaller.

I would think it will be the same. My logic says if you can swap 2g calipers on 1g then what ever mounts on 2g should mount on 1g. I am researching about this as well but the deciding factor for me is the thickness of calipers. In the rear I am going with Evo calipers.

Yes they did, they're just not supercharged. If I had to guess I would say almost every year mustang has a cobra version. From Fox body until now and before.

Hah I didn't see that was you at first.. Did you ever brake upgrade your build, paintballaa? How's the build going?
Haha, I have an 03 cobra.. i know for sure they didn't make the them.
But yea man it's going well. Your thread sent me to this one. I'd like to do the v calipers, but I don't think they fit the 17x9 rpf1's I want

Rpf1 are exactly the reason why I am asking about thickness of the caliper. Because to clear Evo brembos you need like 18 offset on 9 inch rim. Other wise you need smaller width rim to fit. Which don't give you flat spikes.

I think there was a period when Ford canceled Cobra production because of bad press. The 1999 cobra apparently had significantly less hp than advertised and they had to recall over 5k vehicles.

Exactly. I hate the sub 9" wide face, and i don't even want to use the +35 offset wheels. No way I'm going to +18. My ideal setup would be the +45's in front (with maybe a 5mm spacer) and +35 in back.

As far as I know there are like 5 2001 Cobras LOL. I don't know why they stopped for 01/02 but they came back in 03 with the fastest mustang they ever made. But yea I have 13" rotors so I assume that's what he meant. I might borrow a set of calipers a friend has and steal the rotors from the cobra to test this out and see exactly how far they stick out.

Lol why are there a bunch for sale? Are these different then what you're talking about or something?

Only 5 01s? Hah I'm so confused LOL

Only reason I questioned it was cause I was going to buy an 01 but then realised the terminator was only 03-04, supercharged one..

Cobras In general before 03 regardless are all way overpriced and underpowered you can make a gt/cobra clone so much quicker for wayyy less money..

I just bought some Feal coilovers so I'm hurting on the DSM budget. Maybe by Christmas I can afford them.

Oh man feals are the sickest IMO..

I'm still in engine/trans mode LOL. Then I'm doing the 4 bolt rear. Then manual steering rack.

After that what would you guys buy and redo first, brakes, or suspension..?

I can't do the wheels until I do the brakes because I don't know what will fit and I'm not getting 18s. So I dunno, I might just get AGXs on some sportline?? springs off this parts car I might get .. But I dunno, nothing beats coilovers..

Small update for comparison purposes. This is my previous vs current setup weight difference. I did not compare pads nor the Aluminum sync rings (which weigh barely anything) but this gives you a good idea how a properly sourced setup and the correct wheel tire package get you on track to an almost equal end weight:

Stock Setup (per corner):
Rotors: OEM GSX (276mm) = 13.15lbs
Calipers: GSX = 14.2lbs
Wheels: Stock GST 16" =22lbs
Tires: Hankook 205/55r16 = 22.2lbs
Total Weight = 71.55lbs per corner

Brembo Upgrade (per corner):
Rotors: Cobra 13" = 19.1lbs
Calipers: CTS-V 4 piston = 8.4lbs
Wheels: Kosei K6r 17x9 = 18.5lbs
Tires: Khumo XS 235/40r17 = 23.4lbs
Total Weight = 69.4lbs per corner

Thanks. Maybe you know how thick the calipers are?

Though this may be a bit off topic, this thread is currently the most recent braking thread. Has anyone tried newish 5.0 mustang calipers? They list on rock auto for 96 bucks and they appear to be the same design as ctsv's. They are a brembo casting with a 40/44mm piston setup.

They usually are the same caliper with different mounting provisions and slightly different piston sizes. I hardly doubt anybody has tried them and would suggest anybody willing to be the first to try to better look for a junkyard caliper prior to buying new and finding it was for nothing.

Cheers

Honestly, I planned to cnc a bracket for a 14" rotor anyway so I cant see a benefit of going with the ctsv caliper over the mustang anyway. I will likely explore these in the near future and update my progress here. Thanks for the input Adr.

UPDATE: The s197 mustang caliper spacing is 150mm vs our 130, so they will require brackets if that is even an option.

If you're going 14" it definitely doesn't matter which you pick. I like the CTSV because they're dirt cheap from AC Delco and in an already painted version. I hate the Evo Brembo replacements since the come unpainted for basically twice as much.

Sorry to revive, but I found some potentially helpful information.

H&R makes some wheel spacer/ hub adapters that have 67.1 mm bore diameter, they are 5mm thick, and they adapt the bore to 70.5mm. This makes it virtually identical to the old Strictly kit. Also, there is also a company selling the exact part that Strictly used to include in their kit.

H&R Trak Hub Adapters - 1065671705

Also, I purchased 67.1 mm to 70.1mm hub centric rings and they are too small to match up to the rotors. I purchased POWER STOP AR8144XPR and their bore diameter is 70.87 mm. I have to recommend 70.5mm OD, or a custom hub ring.

I just wanted to add something to this thread about the orientation of the calipers. After some reading it seems that the calipers with staggered pistons need to be mounted with the smaller piston on top since the caliper is mounted forward of the rotor. I just did this install and I think that once I remove them to get my them painted I'll be swapping calipers to the opposite sides (driver to passenger) and swapping the caliper line and bleeders so that the bleeders are still at the top. Can anyone expand on this? Does is matter that much? What are the effects of having the smaller piston second as the rotor rotates?

CTSV upgrade using Cobra rotors question...

In all of my research, I can't find any difference between 03-04 Cobra rotors and 94-02 Cobra rotors. When looking up Cobra rotors with any reputable auto parts company, they list ANY Cobra from 94-04 as using the exact same rotor. Even Mustang specialty shops like Late Model Restoration lists all Cobras from 94-04 as using the exact same rotor. I'm sure the guys at LMR know what there talking about, let alone all the other auto parts companies. So my question is, why does everyone say you need rotors from a 03-04 Cobra? Am I just completely missing something here?!

You're not missing anything. Same rotors. When I ran the cobra brakes, I ran oem rotors off of a early year cobra mustang. I ordered slotted rotors when I upgraded to the CTSV calipers and nothing changed dimensionally on the rotors.

Thanks 2gjlc! I'm glad we got that all cleared up! Heck, even CTSVbrakeswap.com lists a 03-04 Cobra rotor is required:
https://ctsvbrakeswap.com/collections/mitsubishi/products/1g2g-dsm-big-brake-kit-adaptor

I had a 96 Mystic Cobra (until some jackass rearended me and totaled it) and this 03-04 rotor thing caught my eye immediately. Saying you need 03-04 Cobra rotors just seems a little confusing for no reason, especially for non Mustang guys. Makes much more sense just saying you need a set of 94-04 Cobra rotors.

So the good news for me is, before my Cobra was totaled, I ordered 2-piece rotors directly from Baer Brakes. Never got a chance to install them, so they'll be going on my 1G with the CTSV calipers.
