What engine mounts do you have? It's possible launching the car is moving things around enough for something to hit the fan. Ive had a wastegate dump into a spal and melt the blades without them coming off. They won't just fly apart without something hitting them.

Nice runs! I know it's lost in the age of internets, but a car that runs 117 in the 1/4 mile is a fast car.

Got to take the car out to the track and make some passes last Friday. I didn't run as fast as I would have liked to, but it was nice to make some shakedown passes on the new setup. I mainly struggled with traction and shifts, both of which hurt on the slips. Before Friday, I probably launched the car one other time on the new turbo/motor, and it showed. I couldn't cut a decent 60' all night. With a few adjustments, I'll get back out and make some quicker passes when it cools off here in the Fall.

Although I didn't achieve any new personal bests, the car ran rock solid all night. I hot lapped the first two passes to beat staging traffic, and the car didn't give a single f***. Temps stayed in check, and the motor runs awesome. Best of all, no breakages...Which is more than I can say for a bunch of other people at the track that day. I think I spent half the night with my thumb in my ass waiting for the track crew to clean up oil and shit from breakages.

Luckily, a few friends showed, so there was somebody to BS with while we waited. I got a few pics with Jason's MKIV Supra (runs 9's on a street tire) and my buddy Dan's 1GA Talon.

Curse of the 12's...

I took the Galant out to Capitol Raceway once again trying to break the 11 second barrier on the 68HTA. And once again, couldn't quite pull it off. I was robbed by 3 hundredths of a second.

FML

Overall the car ran awesome, but my launches are what ended up being the deal breaker. If I could have cut any time off at the line, I would have had it. I've cut low 1.7s in the Galant before, but out of 4 passes, I just couldn't ace the dig. Traction was decent, but the water box was spread across the line and I wasn't able to go around it, which didn't help. Better tires, lower tire pressure, NLTS, suspension tweaks...All changes I could have probably made to shave some time, but didn't. My crappy ass transmission didn't help my times either, but the Shep box in the garage should fix that.

At the end of the day, the Galant is just a street car I take to the track for fun. And it was a ton of fun. Best of all, I drove there, made four 12 second passes, and drove home without any issues. That's always a win.

At this point, I'm pretty sure this is the end of the road for the 68HTA, as I'm satisfied with how far I've pushed this turbo. I wanted to see what it's capable of, and I think I'm pretty content with my answer. On a better day (and with a better driver), I think it could have pushed the Galant into the 11s. I also think it's good for another 20-30 hp on the dyno with some tweaks. But, I won't be the one to see the any of that unexploited potential with the 68HTA, if it exists.

So, some decent changes in store for the Galant in the near future. I'll be replacing the 68HTA with a FP3052 ball bearing setup, and adding all the good stuff that goes with it. I'm also FINALLY going to install a decent transmission in the car, which its never had since I've owned it. All of which mods should make for a quicker, more powerful, and better rounded setup.

1837 may not have dipped into the 11s last night, but eventually she'll get there. I set a new personal best for trap speed and ET in the car, so I can't be too upset.

Vids of the 2 best passes of the night below.

This was the best pass of the night. 12.030 @ 119.39 MPH.

With that trap Brett I'd bet that once you ace the launch you'll drop half a second off your ET. It took me 3 trips to the track of running 12.0XX's @ 119'ish before I hooked and ran the 11.6 @ 121. Good results so far man!

You can't blame your DA for not hitting 11's, looks like Capital Raceway was sitting at -830ft last night at 9:21pm. That's race weather right there...

Shots fired! Lol!
I've got to get my jabs in while I can since he's probably going to beat my PB here soon and he works in the women's dept of the Navy. :sneaky:

Well that was a good read glad I stumbled across it . Love the vr4 looks great .

Go again, try and roll through the water box and give it a little burnout just past the water box. You'll basically just launch it with lots of wheel spin, but it will help clean the tires off.

Yeah, normally the water box isn't a problem. But this time is was spread across the entire staging lane.

I'll be posting something may 7th. There nothing like having a goal and reaching it. Almost reaching it is straight torture. You are almost there, so keep up the good work!

Thanks, Kelvin. You running the 1/2 mile event?

It definitely wasn't the weather's fault, Corey. I should have taken a shit before my last run. Boom. 11xx.

Hey kelvin I'll be down in july any events going on.
Don't know about July but we have been going to Montgomery motorspeed way Friday night drags. Been playing around with the two Hondas. Ga 1/2 mile is coming to Atlanta September airport right beside Atlanta motor Speedway only 35 minutes from my house we are very excited.

I was out at the track again a few weeks ago. I wanted to make some shakedown passes on the new turbo setup to try and get the car dialed in. It was hot as f***, and I wasn't terribly excited about making passes in the heat.

The first pass I turned down the boost a bit and came out of the hole nice and easy just to get some decent log data of a 1-4 WOT pull. The logs showed the car running great, even with 130+ IATs toward the end of the run.

Once I was confident the car was running well, I turned the boost back up, and did my best to get out of the hole. I hot lapped back to the staging lanes after the 1st pass while the crowd was thin, and per the usual, the track staff dragged the water box across the entire staging lane, which left me with greasy rubber on the line. I cut a decent 60', and made a 12.1@117mph pass. I had the redline set at 8.75k, and the trans refused to shift from 2-3 and 3-4 until the revs dropped down, which killed my ET. I'll be addressing the shifting issue in the coming weeks with a QM twin. The logs showed pretty hot IATs once again, but otherwise the car was running solid.

I hot lapped back to the staging lanes again to get a 3rd pass in. I didn't change change anything from the second pass, and hoped to concentrate on my shifts to try and improve the ET. I never got that far. I launched the car, and immediately got a ton of vibration in the drivetrain. I knew I chunked something, so limped it down the 1/4 and pulled into the pits.

Once in the pits, I got a look under the car and saw the slip yoke for the DSS driveshaft hanging about 2" too far out of the rear of the transfer case. I tried to seat it back onto the input shaft with no luck. I have some ideas as to what caused the failure, which I'll share at a later time. But, basically the DSS slip yoke seems like it isn't the greatest, and is prone to failure.

I swapped in my stock driveshaft for the time being to get the car back up and running. I've been working with customer service at DSS for the past few weeks to resolve the issue I'm having with the DSS driveshaft. Once I have a resolution I'll outline the entire debacle.

Once again, 11s have eluded me.

Do you need a replacement slip yoke? Idk if an OEM one will work but I have a recall kit in the box and all I need is the ujoint. Any chance you could PM me the log of your run down the track? I'm curious what everything looks like going down the track vs just a 3rd gear pull.

Hey Brett, the photos are broken - were you trying to upload them as attachments or link to them from an external website?

OK, I think I fixed them. Look good now?

I would strongly advise against putting a QM in your car.

Anything beats the ACT that's currently in it.

I've heard a lot of gripes about twin disc clutches from a lot of people. However, none of them gripe about it shifting at redline, which is all I really care about at this point.

Nothing my act 2600 couldnt handle at 11.49..I was shifting at 7 though, My bastard 20g dropped off a little before this. If you need to shift that high up, the only thing to do is to go double at your power levels.

Nice times Brett! My goal is a 11.xx pass or better also but haven't got to go to the track this year as I work 6 days a week. Keep at it man, you are close enough it WILL come!!! Good luck!

I've used ACT clutches for years without issue. I still run one in my other Galant. But with 1837 at the track, the ACT just isn't getting the job done on my current setup anymore, and I'm done dicking with it. Most of the guys I know who are running ACT clutches at higher power levels and are successfully shifting them at high RPM have made modifications to the clutch system, and I have no interest in doing that. I'm looking forward to ditching the ACT single for a twin setup.

My goals with the car always seem to be moving targets LOL

I'd like to get the car into the 11's, just because I think it's an 11 second car. But, I'm more concerned with keeping the build street car oriented than running record breaking passes at the track. I'd love to see 11's on the slips, but I'm only willing to tailor certain parts of the build toward achieving that goal. As a result, it's taken me a lot longer than most to get to where I'd like to be at the drag strip.
