Okay so I read through, and tested everything that I feel pertains to my situation from http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-diagnose-a-no-start.217951/ . My starter, starter relay, and everrything is getting power to it. When I turn the key the fuel pump turns on the relay clicks, but the starter doesn't do anything. The starter is getting power so at this point i don't know what is going on. I went through the FSM and tested everything the way it says, but it didn't say anything about diagnosing a no start with the ignition wiring. I feel that is what is causing this but don't know where to start. Any help is appreciated!

It sounds silly but bang your starter with a crowbar or breaker bar. In Florida I doubt it would freeze up but I had a no start issue on my supra that I couldn't fix for the life of me. And it turns out the starter was broken, so I got a used one and it wouldn't work until I banged it a few times. Did you just put the car together? Starters in my experience are very delicate creatures and don't like being manhandled or dropped. It only makes sense to me that the problem lies with the starter, but I very much could be wrong.

I'll go try that and to answer your question I did just put it back together over the last week so you never know. I did jump the starter with a screw driver and it worked as it should but I turn the key to start and nothing happens so I am going crazy.

Does the starter relay have multiple prongs to put the positive and negatives to? Switch up where you are putting them and see if that fixes it. On my E30 the starter relay has 4 prongs and I had to switch them a few times. If you have a reman starter thats most likely the case, they have two dud prongs. If that doesn't work, then I've got nothing haha. Sorry man, it's always the worst when you spend so much time putting something back together only to find the dumbest thing holding you back. You'll get it, don't give up.

Okay tried banging on it did nothing. The starter looks fairly new, but I have no idea whether it's reman or not. Thank you for the encouragement this is literally the only thing stopping the car from running to go get the exhaust welded and dial in the tune for this hx40.

i experienced the same issue after my first build. turned out the starter wasnt grounded correct. try running a battery wire off the negative terminal, too one of the main starter bolts. right there at the bell housing....

If you jump the starter with a screwdriver and it cranks over then the ground is ok and the battery feed is good. The problem is no power to solenoid from ignition switch. Starter check is simple. You need constant voltage at the big wire and switched voktage at the small wire. Possibly left a connector unplugged?

This this this this. Check those solenoid wires. Good luck man!

That is not entirely true. When we first got my girlfriends 1g it would not start via the ignition. I took the ground wire and hooked it to a jumper cable to get some extra length and grounded it to the hood latch. Started every time. Grounded anywhere else it would not start UNLESS I bridged the starter with a screw driver. If I did that it would work no matter where it was grounded. Really weird. But it happened. I do not remember what I ended up doing to fix it but I did find a permanent fix as it hasn't given me trouble since.

I agree. Have some one crank the car and you check for power on solenoid wire. You just answered you own question when you mention the screw driver. Follow that wire. Also make sure you don't have some cool magic mad JDM alarm that kills the power so the solenoid. Good luck and post back.

Try unplugging the starter disable switch on the clutch pedal.

There is a one wire (black/yellow wire) connector that runs between the main engine harness and the starter harness. It is located behind and below the thermostat housing. This wire carries the start signal from the starter relay (under the dash) to the starter solenoid (on the starter). Here's a pic:

If this connector is unplugged, you won't get any start signal to the starter.

Not sure if this pertains to a 2g but when I did my tranny, pulled starter and all that stuff. Got it all back together and the car had power. Lights, gauge cluster but wouldn't start.. checked for clean ground then jumped with a wire for starter and it started but wouldn't start if shut off. Silly me, forgot the connector under the battery tray area going to the starter :( heh went over everything found it and perfect.

The taping the starter isn't a bad idea, it has happened to my previous awd dsm, got home one night and next morning to leave for work and no starter but had power. That time I tapped it with my extension bar. Good as new till the parts stores.

@jim95redgsx haha, perfect you explained the connector he might have missed.

Man I love this community! I got it resolved the solenoid was bad I tried grounding the thing anywhere and everywhere finally gave up and took it to O'reillys and sure enough the solenoid was bad. I got so lucky though that they actually had one in stock. Thank you to everyone y'all were a huge help in this. Now that I got it started noticed a crack in the radiator, and my 90* -4an elbow for my feed line was cracked so it leaked oil everywhere. Happy I got it started just got to buy a new fitting now and a radiator :(

Here's a starter issue you fella's can chew on. I have 3 starters sitting here that all test fine off the car. Install them and car won't start. You can hear the starters spinning and kicking out but it seems like it's not engaging the flywheel. One of the 3 starters has been on there since I bought it. Only swapped because I thought that was the issue.

If the starter is turning and actually coming out then in my mind it seems like the flywheel is damaged or the motor is siezed. Possibly the spacing could be but if I remember correctly their is no shims bs on dsm and if one of them had been on there then maybe it stoped on bad spot on flywheel or the ring gear is totally off. Look inside and spin the engine by hand.

Here's another one. Car starts but key in the ignition has to be wiggled. I'm guessing a faulty switch. What do u guys think?

I like it this way.....I think of it as a anti theft feature :D

Haha. Thats funny. One day that will cost you a towing. I would say tumbler and key should be replace and coded to the old one.
