Hey all, so I am pretty damn new to turbos.... go figure. Another one! I have two turbos, one has shaft play and I know it would have to be rebuilt, and the other has zero shaft play but I believe I would have to get an adapter to hook it up. I googled everything I could think of to find the differences but seriously found nothing, I am thinking it might be a ebay special. Hope not... but knowing my luck! The first set of 4 is the unknown no shaft play turbo. 2nd set of 3 is the one that need work. Thoughts?

The first turbo in the picture is an eBay special. U can tell by the casting marks that say "turbocharger". The second looks like a t25 from a 2g dsm.
^ is right on the $$. Unfortunately it's an eBay "16g" variant. I would get rid of eBay turbo. I assume your car is a 2g correct? If so I would sell eBay turbo and either have @JusMX141 rebuild it or find a used one if you are tight on cash. If you keep eBay turbo, you will have to buy stuff to allow it to bolt up and be functional.

Garrett GTA4294, OEM turbo from a 12.7L Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine.

If you're not looking to make at least 800whp, this is not what you need to be thinking about putting on your car.

Thank You I have been looking everywhere to figure it out. Im still debating if I want to go the route of this turbo because it was given to me with most if not all supporting mods.

I have the same question about a turbo I found for sale. I've been looking to boost my 99 gs and I came across this, and he said it's a garrett t28 off a gsx that he bought off of a dsm forum, just wondering if I could have someone confirm or let me know what This is

It says dsm-Evo III on the side of it and has a T4 twin scroll 1.15 A/R exhaust housing. No idea what it is and if you could help that would be much appreciated.

Funny thing is it's not a direct-fit turbo for a DSM or Evo III, nor is that a T04Z-style compressor cover. Might as well just give it an Ikea name.

^ So true!! Why do people not do their research first?! Maybe people will EVENTUALLY WAKE UP!

Chinese knockoffs tend to be like that.

like on this chinese bootlegged DVD movie summary. (see the dramatic reading HERE )

You sir, have made my night. I love literal and direct translations from Chinese/Japanese to english ROFL

So I have been searching through the threads and haven't really found a whole lot I figured I would ask on this does anybody tested or tried EVO 3 gt. How did it hold up compared to say an MHI B16G I received both in a trade and haven't figured out which one I want to install I hear the GT hold up pretty well and can be rebuilt using mhi parts

Evo III GTs are crap. Go with MHI

What was the reason they were so bad out of curiosity

Evo III GT's are build and distributed by CHSH turbo in Taiwan. They weren't VSR-balanced, the turbine shafts would snap on some of the earlier models, and the turbine housings aren't a high-nickel casting like the MHI housings so they'll crack over time.

They're better than the $180 Chinese knockoffs flooding the market these days, but they're no MHI turbo for sure.

Hello, so I have tried doing a lot of research behind this but am stuck, so far this is everything i know or think i know;
-It's a Garrett
-Turbine: appears similar to a GT40 turbine wheel
-Exducer 70mm
-Inducer 77mm
-10 blades
-Turbine Housing A/R unknown

-Compressor: This where i am confused
-Exducer 79mm
-Inducer 58mm
-10 blades; there are 5 small ones and 5 big ones(not sure if that makes a difference)
-compressor housing A/R 1.1

It appears to have been rebuilt by a company called Allied Signal. I saw a guy asking about the same turbo, http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/big-turbo.287996/ My goals are different than his though, I am looking to make 650 at the crank. I guess i am confused because looking through all the Garrett models i couldn't find any that had a GT40 turbine wheel and a smaller compressor wheel. I am looking for the model so i can see a compressor map and find out more info about this turbo.
In that thread they talk about it having lot of lag but what if i were to buy a smaller turbine housing? i can't tell the turbine A/R, it seems large
What effect does having a smaller compressor wheel have? from what i understood less flow, but will i get better spool?

That's a TP38 from a 94-97 non-intercooled 7.3L Powerstroke. It's reverse-rotation, receives/drains oil through the same flange (would've sat on a "pedestal" on the truck), and the housings cannot be clocked 360*. Installation would be quite difficult, housing selection would be nonexistent. Basically has no business on a DSM.

Can someone help help with specs on this turbo and what type of power we can get out of it?

thanks,
