With this engine swap can the tranny from the 420 be used with the 4g63(t) engine?

Lol I didn't know if I could trust anything outside of the forums

Goose with the recent questions/threads you have posted, i can't help but feel like this is satire..... or some kind of entertainment for you.
Either way, members take notice so dont be surprised if you received little support from now on.

I get that but when I first started I mentioned I'm a noob and I wasn't kidding the only thing I have done is work on a jeep. With that it wasn't motor related just a small amount of accessories, o2 sensors, valve cover gaskets, water pump and routine maintenance. I understand my questions will come as if I'm trolling but assure you I'm not. I'm here to learn and make my dream a reality and if I'm spoken to sarcastically because of a simple question it will be no big deal. I'll take it. I just wanna learn and I believe that you guys are the best ones to learn from. So support I hope I get because Ima be in this until I complete a project. The past 3 days I have learn a lot about a dohc motor specifically the 4g63. I learn about Pistons, rods, bearing, crankshafts, cam shafts, valves and their purpose so I can make a good engine.

I don't think they mean trolling people by asking simple questions. There's no such thing as a bad question, but questions like this have been answered before and a quick search can bring many up.

:ohdamn: No :beatentodeath:
Google could have told you this in 2 seconds
Ok since you responded quick Ima ask you another stupid question. If you do the awd swap on a fwd eclipse. Are he rear ends both the same or will you need a new rear end to connect the driveshaft to?

Ok

I'll start searching better my issue I believe is in still new with the names of certain parts

I'll check this out thanks man I appreciate it

Edit2:
Ok I just found out about the rear end being different

The rear cross member is different. So is the rear suspension. So is the gas tank.
Everything will swap with a bit of work. It is ALMOST a bolt on and go swap, but some mounting points will need fabricated.

Almost a bolt on?
A bit of work?
If it were that easy we would find many stories about the swap. If one ever actually got done ive never heard of it.
OP please just lose this idea. If you want a 4g63t car find one and buy it.

going from 420a to 4g63t is a long fabricated process for those with above average fabrication skills and plenty of time to knowledge on there side ... like stated " just go find a 4g63t awd car and do the maintenance / required building to get the car you seek" . These cars get bad enough rep besides someone trying to do something outside there wheelhouse ..... no reason to drag this thread out.

He was talking about the process of AWD swapping a GST, which doesn't apply here if the OP has a 2G n/t.

That said the OP still hasn't made it clear what he even owns, but no swapping a 420a with a 4G63 is not common or worth it.

If you read the post he is talking about GST to GSX swap..
Hence "REAR CROSS MEMBER and FUEL TANK" mentioned in my reply.
Dont take my 'probationary member' status as another kid with pipe dreams and no knowledge.

420a to 4g63 is a hell of a lot more work.

I don't want anyone to get in an argument here, my dream is to get a 2g dsm car and build it from nothing to something. I have moderate fab skills I learned from where I work. I have built tons of stuff starting from just an idea. I have never built a car but I have always wanted to do it. I was lookin for a dsm that's not in. Take best shap and make it something . I just recently found a 1995 gst without the engine, tranny and clutch master. Not sure what else is missing. I'm waiting on pictures and more information. If it's appealing to get this car which originally had the 4g63 engine, and has minimal rust, I may get it for a project. I will not in no way period give this car a bad re for anyone. Everyone has to start somewhere and well why not now. I'm not getting older. My specific questions are what fuels my decisions and ideas towards this project. I must have knowledge and you guys are the one and only true source. Also I will say again I'm not trolling or being a retarded kid with only visual desires.

I

if u have a 420a u can't swap a 4g63t it's totally diffrent drivetrain! But I would suggest keeping the 420a and turbo it they make good power if done and tuned right!
I already posted a question regarding the 420a and the post was deleted, I guess someone thought I was talking smack about the ops engine choice which clearly wasn't the case. If you would like to post why you think the 420a is a good motor then by all means please do. I was told at work the other day that the 420a motor was better built then the 4g63a because of the lower end housing. Whatever he means. My research shows the 4g63 is better but hey internet isn't always correct that's why I'm on this forum

My bad .... I thought this waas another "can I swap a 4g63t into a 420a chassis" ...I should have read better. You do already have a great platform to go from since your missing the trans and engine. The trans mustbe from a AWD drive DSM..the 420a trans will not work. You can usually find 6 bolt motors and AWD trans / center and rear from Miller import parts a vendor here. He can most likely provide all the bits and pieces you need except the things that will need some fabrication. I do believe someone around here has a write up or atleast a pretty detailed build thread.

Some points of concern ( others can point out other area's I may not know of)

1) Fuel sender /gas gauge sometimes doesnt work after swap
2) Something with the long rear subframe mounting bolts ( may need to be welded, something I cant remeber)
3) Gas Tank straps / bolts ?

Good luck with your build

I remember watching a video about the fuel sender, I can't remember exactly everything at the moment.
I found a article telling you everything you need to make it happen:

  • Required AWD Parts
  • Transmission
  • Transfer case
  • Front axles
  • Drive shaft
  • Exhaust
  • Fuel tank and shield
  • Rear subframe
  • Rear axles
  • Rear differential
  • Swaybar
  • Rear knuckles
  • E-brake cables
  • AWD Flywheel

Recommended AWD Parts (In addition to the above)
  • AWD fuel tank connectors
  • AWD subframe rear bolts
  • AWD drive shaft and exhaust brackets (spot welded in the tunnel)
  • Entire AWD rear suspension assembly (all control arms)

For the price the car has been asked to me don't seem bad and I will check out the vendor as I pursue this route, out of curiousity. Could I still use the awd tranny with the 4g63 and still only drive it as fwd until I get the parts for the rest of the conversion? Is that possible? I would hate to have to get two trannys

Not likely. The transfer case shaft will be sticking out the side of the transmission.

If I popped the hood of an eclipse and looked at it how could I tell if it has a 6bolt or 7bolt ? Or is the 7 bolt limited to a specific year or trim level?

6 bolt 90-92.5ish (I do not remember exactly when they changed. The 6 bolt was only found on 1ga and early 1gb body cars)... 7 bolt 92.5ish-99
There are visual differences, but the easiest way is to look at the flywheel and count the bolts.
