Can't believe I never saw this build journal. And you're in Miami too! I have to check this out one day LOL

Yes, I first have to make my master or plug, then cast a mold and finally the part itself.

Some of these parts did not come out of a mold, like the rear 1/4 panels, if I had made a mold and cast a part it would not fit over my frame lets say.

As an example the roof came out from a mold, but that was really an unwanted piece, I had someone helping me on one side of the car and me on the other, his side was not coming out smooth enough so I just left it as a mold, but it was suppose to be just an overlay.

Now I will have to do a little modification to the roof since that part is just like an original and it is a little short.

By me having the molds, in case there is contact with another car and I get some damage, I can make me another in no time.

Hope you understand how it works.

Thanks for looking in again.

I just came across your build for the first time.

I can really appreciate how much time and effort you have put into this. I have done lots of fiberglass work myself for my car and other projects. Helped my dad build his 24 foot catamaran sail boat which is fully wooden and fiberglass.

I can't wait to see this car all put together and on the track for the first time. You've earned a fan here!!

Keep it up

Thank you, doing fiber over wood is a lot harder than what I do, so I know how much effort you put into that cat.

Hey thanks guys, for looking in, yes I have made progress but mostly on hard parts for the car, I have also made a bunch of fiber parts for other cars, although the weather has been very bad with all the rain this summer, I have also been driving for other teams, which I am glad,. but it takes time from my project.
I am now mostly working on a new suspension that I will post on later if it works out.

Hello everyone.
NO, I am not gone nor have I abandon the project, it is time consuming doing all the glass work.
I am now working on my engine mounts, relocating some of the mounting points and making them solid,
also doing some work on the body harness, eliminating all the wires I will not need, like headlights, wipers, etc.
Here is some of the stuff I have built lately, complete front cap for my grandsons FIAT, which we did race, also made the doors and trunk.
The last two were hoods one of a VW, and the other one for a DSM cousin a DODGE COLT, which I incorporated a MINI COOPER scoop.

Well here are the pictures hope you enjoy.

No pictures, getting message file is too big, have to find out how to upload them now with the new format and I am not computer savvy.

trying again

Well I was able to put up some pictures finally they not all came out as I wanted them, but they are up.
Although this does not relate directly to my build, I still wanted to show them with all reinforcements made to it, for those that were wondering.
This hood is for a cousin car, A Dodge Colt that I modified for Installer 88 in Georgia, the scoop is from a Mini Cooper which I molded into his hood and then made a complete hood mold.
The reinforcement in the back is balsa wood which is very light, there was about a 54% weight saving,
I will show another hood for a VW, reinforced with foam later when I get a better hold on the posting of pictures.
Thanks for looking in.

OH, yes I am still at it, have slow down lately due to health/age problems.
Just had a total left knee replacement on the 24th of last month, and waiting to see how my right one will respond after my left gets up to speed, maybe will have to do right also, but I am glad it is over with, it was to the point where If I work one day I had to rest 2.
And my hands have gotten better so hoping to get back to doing things soon.

I have made some progress on car, roll cage is all done except for down pipes from main hoop to back of frame I will do those once the rear suspension goes in.
I almost have everything for new rear suspension, it is simple and light, everything has been fitted and if I dont have any surprises should not take very long, hoping it works.
I will put up pics when done.

Thanks for your interest

Mandy

Thanks for your well wishes, and yes the pain is strong, specially during rehab exercises, but it has to be done.

I will keep the car FWD, I can not see me dragging all the extra weight and also reliability factor, maybe If I could build a much stronger motor and put lots of money in the suspension would I do an AWD. Maybe I am wrong but there are many FWD cars doing road racing and are doing very well.

How has progress been up to now? really love the awesome work

Thanks for looking in.
It has been very slow on this one due to my health problems and being involved in 2 other projects.
I bought another 97 Talon which it was built for road racing and doing a few changes to it, it was laid up for a few years so that takes a lot of time. I will start a build thread when I am further along on this one.

Also doing another project with a friend, rescuing a very competitive race car, although not a MITSU originally, it is from the original blood line.
Again thanks
Mandy

Had nothing but problems, City made me move cars, so now I have them stored away hope to find a place to work on them, I have also had health problems.
I have made a new hood and bumper mold and had the parts made, I also made one for a Miata, also a trunk that fits an NA and NB, besides making parts for a few friends.
Thanks for asking,
How are you doing with your project?
Mandy
