Resolved Need Some Advice on turbos compressor map

Ok first let me say my goal at the moment is 400whp, I eventually want to make this on pump but the help of E85 would be fine too. With that being said I was given a Garret gt3271 which looking at the turbo on extreme psi is rated for 200-420hp. I figured it would be a little more capable then an evo3 so I would use it for the time being until putting together an hx35 setup or fpgreen. Anyhow looking at the compressor map and using the formulas to see where I would be at it seems 35lb/min at 20psi would be close to maxing out the turbo without going off the chart? Am I calculating this right and does 400 hp seem capable with the 4g and this turbo? (Notice @23psi and 39 lb/min it just creeps off the map.)

I'm plotting airflow @ 23 psi closer to 43 lbs/min, but your plots are definitely close enough. If you roughly estimate you'll need 1lb/min of airflow per hp, I'd say this turbo isn't very well suited for your 400hp goal.

When comparing your map to the map below for the E316G, I'd say you'd actually be a little better off with the 16G.

Both turbos will be off the map when operated at ~40lbs/min (.3 m^3/s = ~630 CFM = ~40lbs/min). But, the E316G has a larger efficiency range in the higher boost levels when compared to the compressor you posted a map for.

thats a twin scroll turbo. making a manifold and downpipe for it would cost more than a nice evo 16g setup.. not even close to practical to try unless you fab yourself and have lots of free time to do so. the 16g will do everything better. this an old design garrett and the 16g just kills it technology wise.

sell it and stick to what works.

I hear you, I wouldn't even consider running it but. I have a Turbonetics manifold "t3" and this turbo actually has a single scroll turbine so it must have been switched? I also already have a bolt on o2 to make it basically a bolt on turbo. However I'm still leaning towards not bothering with it LOL. I was disappointed when I started comparing compressor maps.

Thanks that's exactly what I was thinking! And I don't want to bother with a 16g, they are awesome turbos. I'm just shooting for a 40lb/min capable turbo on pump with a 50ish lb/min max.

I think I will sell this turbo and purchase an hx35. At least that's what I'm leaning towards, it's to bad the Turbonetics mani doesn't put it out further from the block. I was also considering a fp green with the stock 2g mani ported. I think that would actually end up being cheaper vs, hx+mani+turbine.

I think that'd be your best bet. The Green should get you to your HP goal, and won't break the bank.

Aside from being slightly less of a bolt on affair than the Green, the HX35 also has pretty strict oiling requirements. The HX35 would be much more of an involved install, that's for sure. Just things to keep in mind.

Yea I've been reading over on the hx manifold thread.. Geez what a pain! I'm sure it is well worth it though, just not sure I want to deal with the hassle. I do like the fact that they are very reliable turbos I wasn't aware of the oiling requirements thanks for the heads up!
