In other words, if you wanted a newer version of your dsm, what would you buy(since there are no new DSMs ?
My DSM was recently utterly destroyed in a head-on collision.(And I got damaged rather badly as well, but I will heal, sadly my Talon will not....RIP There is nothing left of it or even the parts to salvage....
So I am trying to figure out what kind of car I want to try to buy, I can't afford a project car atm due to other financial commitments.(In other words I need to get a loan for whatever I buy) But even when I had my DSM as much as I loved it, I wanted a new car just like it without all the sqeaks, rattles, broken bolts, broken trim peices etc that come with owning such an old car, or similar in philosophy. Unfortunately nobody makes a reasonably priced AWD coupe though, so I'll probably have to settle for RWD. I don't like the WRX/STI, or ralliart/evo because they are boxy sedans.
I'm thinking about trying to get a saturn sky redline, its not awd sadly, but they are small, lightweight, good looking(imo) even with the top down(unlike many verts). And of course it has a turbocharged 2.0.
Other options I'm thinking about are a c5 vette, 350z, rx8, or a BRZ or Genesis. But I'm scared to go anywhere near a wankel, the BRZ is overpriced(compare its features to the slightly cheaper WRX and you'll understand), the Genesis is heavy for what it is. The c5 and 350z options I somewhat like. Although I feel the sky is more like a dsm than any of these options. And I like the moddability of a turbo car, its easy to get a lot more power. And I do like having something a little bit uncommon.
Please share your thoughts/opinions/suggestions below, I'm looking to spend $20k or less ideally, but might be able/willing to go up to 30k for a brand new car.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot to mention that I don't mess with front wheel drive, hence why I didn't mention any FWD cars in my list, Needs to be a coupe too, although I would MAYBE consider a 4 door if it looked sleek enough.
More about the accident/my car if anyone is interested to hear my sob story...:
I had $10k+ into rebuilding/modding it, 387hp and climbing, finally had it almost completely sorted out, only about 1k miles on freshly rebuilt engine, then BAM...wasn't even driving fast, it was a confusing ambiguous road layout that caused the accident...I was exiting a toll road, and normally an exit on a toll road, opens into multiple lanes for each of the toll booths, guy in front of me was driving too slow, so when 2 more lanes opened up on the left side, I moved to pass, only to collide head on with an SUV....the other two lanes were opposing traffic, and there was no barrier, median or any lane separation, no insurance money because I didn't have collision coverage, and am deemed "at fault", even though I feel the dangerous road design is equally at fault....And I had ALL of my hand tools in it, most of which are gone now, I believe the guy that did the road cleanup and towed my car stole them, then charged me $900. As if the wreck weren't bad enough...
As for injuries, only 2 people were involved, myself and the other driver, I have quite a few injuries, but no lost limbs or brain damage, just lots of broken things. Idk much about the other driver, only that he was relatively old, 78 I think. Had injuries to one of his legs, and recently my mother said something about him having issues with one of his eyes, but hopefully its nothing he won't recover from.
Lastly, here is a picture of the carnage that used to be my baby, my pride and joy, I poured my heart and soul into it, and its just gone...but at least no one died, and I didn't lose any limbs either. Still depressing losing something I poured everything into, and having a total loss with absolutely no reimbursement, and almost all my tools too.....
