Well, after 3 years almost of being out of the DSM game, I'm back. I was referred to the seller of this car when a friend of mine informed me that a guy about 2 hours away was thinking about crushing a GSX with 86,XXX miles on it and it ran.

When I arrived I found a neglected but gorgeous Kalapana DSM. Of course the starter was crap but when I started it by popping the clutch it started right up and idled perfectly. So I pulled the trigger seeing how the price was less than $2,000.

After I brought it home I made an assessment of where the car stands

1) Has one or more collapsed lifters
2) Has a hacked together airbox and miscellaneous hacked wires that need to be cleaned up or replaced.
3) The Glowshift gauges have to go
4) Theres duct tape on the front control arm for some reason
5) The O-Ring on the power steering pump needs to be replaced or I need a new pump, period.
6) The valve cover gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced.
7) The starter motor is shot and needs to be replaced
8) All of the accessory belts are good
9) The exhaust needs to be replaced
10) The paint is fading in many places and the clearcoat on the hood is pretty bad
11) most importantly, I am still in absolute love with this car.

I recently purchased an engine stand and will be buying a spare head to build a stroker with. I have 0 experience with that aspect so I thought its about time.

Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted on all my updates as my new parts and such come in! I'm extremely excited for this build and to be back in the community.

^^Theres a link to a quick walkaround I did the moment I got it home.

**Update** "Initial tear down"

Well I started getting into the car today to see where I stand and of course 5 seconds in a snap a bolt from this stupid exhaust manifold shield. Its a good thing its not the one I planned on keeping, huh?

Also I took the hard intake piping off and the hacked intake only to find oil sitting at the bottom of it which I can only assume came from the cold side of the turbo.. I'm more excited to see what other surprises I have in store for me upon further inspection.. NOT

nice save, good to see someone from MN on here
Thanks brotha! I look forward to the spring season! Hopefully I see ya around.
Nice find! What's your goals for the car?

I want this to be my first DSM to run 10's. I don't care if it takes years to do so but I will break into the mythical 10 second bracket.

Sounds like a project like mine but good luck can't wait to see it done!:dsm::hellyeah:

Thanks, bro! I will literally be uploading ever bit of progress I make so stay tuned to it! I'll also be making a series of "How To" Videos for simple things DSM related and harder things (I.E., tuning, replacing and rebuilding turbos, ect, ect)

Wow that would really help out the DSM community. I also plan on doing that with my auto youtube with my buddies. If you check out Jafromobile he does a lot of 4G63 internal how tos and explains a lot of detail!

Hey I will also take those gauges and pillar pod if you don't want them! Also the front mount if you're replacing it

Once I have the replacements I will be in contact with you. I mean the works with no leaks but I would prefer the VRSF instead of hacking up my bumper cover.

**Update**

My polyurethane motor mounts came into today! The ones currently on the car are rotted to hell so I pulled the trigger on these Prothane brand polyurethane mounts. The quality of drive can't be much worse than what it was so its got to be an improvement!

ECMlink as always ;) I'm still sort of learning too but I would love to share my knowledge with everyone!

That jafra guy is the bomb. I've watched his videos many times....

**Update**

Its been too damn cold to work on the car so I'm just compiling parts. I got my Thermal R&D exhaust today so I am now in the hunt for a the best downpipe to match. I know I'll have to have an exhaust shop do some fabbing. I also got my FP exhaust manifold back from being ceramic coated so I'm pretty stoked about that.

Also, my FP Green (old JB HTA) is in the mail so I'll be able to start piecing that together for the spring. The internal wastegate actuator is gone and the flapper hole is welded shut so I'll be buying a Punishment Racing MVS 02 housing w/atomospheric dump as soon as I'm willing to part with an arm and leg :p

Next up is the VRSF (shortest route) intercooler and it will be flanged for a TialQ BOV and my soul search for ECMlink V3 w/speed density. Other misc. adds will be the revised lifters and new plugs and wiring. As soon as it warms up she will be getting a full fluid flush of literally everything along with a magnetic oil drain plug.

Until the next update toonerz!
