So I bought another dsm - which as a side note, Wo0t! - however, I discovered I got pretty #$@!ed over on the deal. The turd sold me the 97 gst with a jacked up 2nd gear synchro, telling me it was just the clutch needing to be adjusted since it just had a new ACT clutch put in, and discovered that the passenger wheel bearing needs to be replaced. the bearing, no big deal. The transmission, HUGE deal.

Yes, stupid on my part to send my wife to pick it up and not me, to verify that it was simply a clutch adjustment - it was too dark to verify everything when I test drove it. So now, I'm probably going to buy a parts car, that has some goodies in it that i need anyway, so that I can swap the transmissions. Does anyone know of a transmission guy with low rates on swapping? :smh: I didn't expect the dsmness to start quite so soon on this one.

Any help or leads would be HIGHLY appreciated.

I can help in exchange for parts.

As far as finding a transmission I cannot but I can help swap one.

I can help you swap the tranny out. 2d gear syncros get chewed up quite regularly though. Used tranny could have the same problem.

That would be awesome. Have to figure out why its starting and then dying 5 seconds later first. It's one thing after another. I can live with 2nd gear being gnarly for now. I'm really hoping it's not a cas.

Have you done a BLT? I don't have a turbo in my car but from what I read, it can cause a lot of issues.

I'll be moving down next month and once my wife and I are settled in, I could come and try to help you out.

I mean I've poked around, but generally I just though a boost leak would cause shitty idle not a complete lack therof

Have you thought about maybe swapping out the transmission on your own? Instead of paying someone, you could save the money and put it towards other problems that may come up. Im sure there sre people in the, srea willing to give you a hand. Im actually in the orange park area now, and have been wanting to meet some people with dsms.

We have a pretty good dsm and there are some really good people in the op area. Alex, Omar and Ryan all live that way. My best advice is look up Tuners on Facebook because that's where we connect up.

Do you hsve a link you can post? I wasnt able to find it through fscebook. And ive seen a couple dsms. Two at an rv lot. A white 2g eclipse and a green 2g eclipse with a 2gb talon front bumper.

Im not that worried about the transmission at this point. I think either my CAS is bad or timing is really off. Crank it, it idles for about 5 seconds, then dies. Trust me, I would love for someone to give me a hand getting this thing back on the road. :thumb:

I tried to find on Facebook and no luck. Could you post a link?

If you're looking for help, your best bet is to look outside of Jacksonville. I can recommend a handful of people a days drive away.

I dont believe that you need to go a days travel outside of jax to do this work. It can be a day at your place with some possible help from the local dsm community. If you have all the tools needed, why not spend the day to work on it, when it would be free to you?

Usually I would agree, but if its something you've never done before and you're looking for some experienced guidance, most Jacksonville locals do more harm than good (which is kinda how the OP got into this spot in the first place.)

The only thing I had to travel out of town for was a tune, and that's because I wanted to go to a professional, LOL.

In all honesty our dsm club organization has fallen apart now that Jaxness moved to the westcoast, nobody has stepped up yet. Check out the import meets at Best Buy on Friday and Saturday nights in Orange Park. Also send me a friend request (Cory Petersen) on Facebook and I will let you know if we are meeting or cruising.

If you find a transmission to put in it I'll put it in no problem. I live in Mandarin area.

On a side note, yes, Jax leaving did hinder our "meets", but let's face it, there were only 2-3 DSM's that showed up and about 20 Evo's. The DSM scene in Jax has been progressively getting worse over recent years.

Been in Jacksonville my whole life, a DSM was my first car in 2003, I've seen the scene come and go, there are still quite a few capable DSM gear heads around, but most are grown, with families, and other priorities.

Mine has been down for some time, but my motto has always been "It doesn't cost me anything to keep it" so it will rest until I have the time to get her right again.

^^^this guy is the man! Surprisingly enough we have been getting around some. Omar, myself, Alex, Ryan, Manny, and a couple others have been showing up to some of the hangouts and cruising.
There are still plenty of good DSM'rs but them Evo's... :)

C'mon Cory. It hasn't fallen apart because Jaxness and Justin moved to the west coast. They just moved a few weeks ago, and we hadn't had a monthly meet all year. Like Kyle said, only 2 or 3(just about every monthly meet when we'd have it) would show up, and the rest were EVO's and that's how it was for most of last year. I wouldn't put blame on Jaxness and Justin because there wasn't anything falling apart, because there really wasn't as many of us to begin with.

Where are you guys hanging out and cruising? Orange Park?

Hey, Ernie's alive! Haha. I was one of those who showed up to a couple events like the 1st and 2nd regional meet. Then college and life happened, and now I'm in Colorado. Someone needs to take initiative if they want to keep the local DSM community alive. I'm trying to meet some DSMr's in the area, and hopefully organize some track days.

Kyle just offered you to help put a transmission in for you. Plus, he has a kickass garage! Take advantage of that! I'm still running his 4 bolt rear from his old black 1G (I think) I found in the junkyard way back when!

There was no blame intended, in fact it was more of a compliment??? The only dsm organization and events we had in the past was from them, so you don't need to jump all over the defend wagon. Evo's fall into the dsm too don't they? No 1g/2g attendance hasn't been the greatest but if anything we knew that their was one every month and where it was.

Ricky I sent an invite, are you the Navy one? You can call me if you want 9o4 7one0 33seven8. I will be over in OP tonight hanging with some of the other 2G guys.

Chad! Hope you're doing well, as you were one of the DSMr's I'd call Orange Park Argyle peeps. Good to know you're doing well up in Colorado. Maybe I need to check in DSM Purity. I'm always around, just not as much in here. If you're on Instagram, I'm on that at least. You know I've always liked to post pictures. Haha!

I reread what you posted before I said what I said, and I would do the same for you if someone didn't give you the same credit. There had been a ton of DSM organization and events here in Jacksonville dating all the way back to the Big K-Mart days in 1995-1997 when it was nothing but DSM's and we would terrorize Blanding Blvd looking for all the domestics that would come from Supershops out of the Westside. Around 1998-2000, there was a bigger DSM scene more over in the parking lot that is now known FSCJ on Baymeadows and were nothing but a sea of 2G's. I can go on and on up until recent hanging out at Broadway's but guys are always around, as you can see.

Congrats on your new job by the way, and the carbon sunroof faired well at the track last weekend. ;)

I offered up the reigns on the meets to anyone that wanted to take them over, LOL. The people are there, someone just needs to take the initiative to get them together.

Everyone can join the Jax Evos group on Facebook. They all get together fairly often.

People will always be around. Getting a group together really has never been that hard (when you only have less than 15 peeps to work with). It's getting people to come on a consistent basis.

DSMr's are just a different kind of group. We'll meet for three months straight and then interest is lost. The dubAudi community have been meeting over 12 years EVERY week, sometimes in the middle of lightning and thunderstorms in the exact same parking lot and still have something to talk about. It just amazes me the difference between my two families.

I'm just going to sell it. I'll take a huge loss but whatever. I'm done with it. Let me know if you know anyone looking.
