1G O ring on fuel pump?

Hey thanks for viewing just a quick question

what size is the O ring on the fuel pump?

i want to replace it i belive it might be leaking
 
What car is it for, have you took the pump off to verify its leaking? Why would you say its leaking any symptoms, its a old car so several things can be wrong. I would pull the pump and find a fuel oring for your pump might take it to a autostore for starters to source one out.
 
Ditch the o-ring and spacer and go down to a Toyota dealership and order part number: 23239-21010. It's an improvement in every sense of the word, and it shouldn't cost more than two bucks.

you ditched the spacer as well? OMG this would have been a life saver 3 months ago when the tsi i bought was missing the spacer. :ohdamn:
 
Sorry i havent replied, and my problem is im loseing fuel pressure when my car sits and ive concluded that it may be that oring leaking.

would that toyota seal work way better? im going to try that

That's completely normal. The system won't hold pressure for an infinite amount of time after shut off. It will always lose its pressure eventually.

The Toyota seal is a far better design. If there's an issue with your o-ring, replace it with the Toyota seal just because it's a better part. But I can't garuntee that is the issue you're having or even if you're having an issue at all.
 
Thing is it leaks out all the pressure and the car dosent want to start with out the aide of starting fluid
after it runs perffect when warm,
and if i let it sit for 3 hours the fuel pressure is gone and cranks and cranks and cranks
it sucks!!! moment i put fluid in it fires upp

i got new injectors im puting them in saturday, if that dosent cure the problem im suspecting its that oring in the pump, my fuel pressure regulator, or a 02 sensor since its also runing rich

It is a better seal. It just fits and seals better.

I couldn't comment on how long they last. I used one for a couple years without issues and someone else is using it now. I imagine it will last longer than the rest of the car will.

Its a 1g the fuel pump dosent prime untill it cranks if i crank it , fuel is geting to the rail just fine after a fuel cranks.

do you think it could be one the injectors are clogged or not opening properly?

one of my injectors were missing the bottem seal

its a weird problem.

i have new plugs and wires to proporly gapped. weird

you think it be a o2 sensor mabe? makeing the car deliver to much fuel?
 
Im having same problem as you i believe.. i started a thread "at a Loss.." . anyway i was getting fuel to rail but car wouldnt start, i exhausted all other systems and everything was working correctly but the fuel system. I checked fuel pressure and it was low at the filter. Im begining to think the pump isnt seated right and leaking at oring in the tank.

Did you ever find your problem?

Bringing this back from the dead because this guy is a genius. Not sure how you found out this Toyota part would fit our cars but it works SOOO much better then the stock spacer and o ring. Anyone swapping fuel pumps should hit up a Toyota dealer and buy a couple of these. Thanks so much for the suggestion. My car seems to run much better as I suspected the stock o ring to be leaking. Thanks again.
 
Those that have a rubber fuel line clamped to the nozzle out wouldn't use an o-ring or any other seal anyway, though. I don't even remember what sort of component used in the stock fuel system requires an o-ring to provide the seal, it's been so long.. Ever since I first installed my 255 with bulkhead fitting I've dealt with the near-instant drainback. Never found the cause but never replaced the pump either. Anyway, old thread...
 
I was just gonna say... my 1g 450 wally has a rubber hose attached to it so not sure where that oring comes into play...

Pulled straight from VFAQ. Small plastic piece, o ring, then spacer. This is how the stock setup is, obviously not everyone is running the stock setup. I'm also seeing MUCH better MPG. I was getting like 160 miles to a tank, now I'm seeing around 250-260 maybe more if I stay out of boost long enough, on E85. It's crazy.

Ok mines been modified to where there is no hat. Its just fuel line from where hat used to be to pump. Wonder if im leaking and dont know it
 
it has probably not been modified. there are some slight differences in the metat hat hangers between 1g and 2g cars. (there is even some crossover so its not all 1g or all 2g thing) some use an oring and plastic spacer and pushes into a metal socket fitting. some have a short chunk of rubber line and 2 clamps. the toyota part is great if your car is socket style.

(see my post in the electrical forum about the wiring connector if your car uses the socket style pump connector)

warning though, not even the electrical connector is always the same. i think these cars were put together with whatever the machines were tooled for that day.

Mine is number 2... made wally install a breeze

if you are using the toyota part as pictured in post 11 (but its a repost anyways) you must support it or it will fail and blow out eventually. easiest thing to do is cut a small chunk of rubber fuel line and put it on the pump before the toyota part. then stuff the entire thing into the metal receiver cup.

to the few of us who actually have this set up and have not replaced it with any other hanger style, i feel your pain. we should meet for beer.

Support with rubber fuel line?

This makes no sense!

I have had this Toyota seal setup on my car now 4 years without an issue. I Installed it just like gst_racer shows in the pic and put it in the metal cup.

Best way is just put the seal in the metal cup first. Coating the outside of the nozzle with some oil will aide in the nozzle going into the seal easier and completely. You have to make sure you push the nozzle of the fuel pump completely in till it stops.

Finally, Make sure the pump is also secure in the hanger and does not move up and down by either clamping it or tie wrapping it against the pump sender’s metal support and everybody with this setup should be good to go.


I never had a blow out issue unless folks are not pushing the pump nozzle completely in and securing the pump properly from moving up and down then I may be able to see this blow up like a balloon and blow
I see no reason whatsoever to add some kind of rubber support. Why?

Just installed this Toyota seal and I used a small piece of rubber hose to support it underneath just in case. @ceedawg @99gst_racer can you guys just re-confirm did you put the yellow plastic hat looking thing on before the Toyota seal, or just the seal and nothing else?

My fuel pressure is still leaking down to 0 almost immediately after shut off and this is on an Evo 9 pump which should have the internal check valve IIRC. I'm starting to suspect my AFPR's ball seat is not perfectly sealing. Or maybe I needed to put the plastic hat also?

I had the Toyota seal installed right on the outlet nipple of the pump, with nothing else on there. Never a single issue with it.
