I have a 1g FWD talon...mild head work,FMIC,small 16g. Emissions delete...
I dont know the correct word for it but my vaccum is around 30.. Is this a good or a bad thing???

The spec for vacuum at idle from the factory service manual is 18 in HG minimum. There is no max spec. Are you still on stock cams?

It sounds like you might have a bad gauge. I don't see any other way it could read that low. Has this just started happening or did you change something and this is now the result of that change? I'm assuming your boost gauge is connected to intake manifold pressure. Is it t-d off with anything else? (I'm also assuming you are reading your vacuum at idle)

Also are you idling high?

Excuse me for jumping in but ,I would like to mention that on my 6 bolt 9:1 , with 272's at idle (1000rpm) i read around 10-12 vacuum on a NEW AEM gauge. in the past i have always read 18-22 on a stock dsm. hoping someone could throw in their 2 cents.

The vacuum will be lower at idle with after market cams.

My 16g car with emmisions delete was around -25 for vac. Your gauge could be off or high idle as mentioned.

I've typically seen around -18 to -20 at idle on a stock motor. It's typically lower on cars with cams because of valve overlap.

My Spyder sits at 20-21, stock cams with recent rebuild. Lowest I ever see on decel is 24. This is on a 5 month old Autometer mechanical.

Autometer, Innovate, AEM, Defi, Prosport... The list goes on and on, just do a few searches on this forum and you'll find the perfect gauge for your goals.

Thanks a lot guys...appreciate the help... What's some good brands for gauges???

Boost gauges are on the classified ads here all the time it seems like. You could find a pretty good one on there. That's where I would check if you wanted to save a little bit of money. The brands mentioned above are all good. I have a Stewart Warner one.
