5 rolls? You may have gone a little overboard in my opinion. The most effective places to put it would be the back side of any outer panels and large flat areas. Usually only 20% coverage is needed. This is speaking from experience too. The bigger gains come from gluing closed cell acoustic foam over the top of any deadener youve used if this is for a sound system. I went with some deadener from second skin audio with their 1/8" foam over the top in my BMW and lost interest in upgrading the speakers after that point since it made that much of a difference. If you wanna go the cheap route like I did in my DSM, glue carpet padding over the top of any areas you can for a similar effect. Just make sure moisture isnt going to leak into the car or you will end up with mold.

I did the whole hatch ,inside wheel wells, quater panels, spare tire place, strut towers and the floor. At this point the whole interior including firewall is covered in peal and seal. Has thin carpet padding on the floor, firewall, under rear seats and spare tire location. Sprayed two layers of rubberized undercoating. This car will be a dd .So i dont really care about the weight. Will be a 500 whp street sleeper ;)

To answer: No asphalt smell at all. I used only 3 rolls so i didnt get too crazy with it.

^^^It works. Not sure how it compares with dynamat, but the difference in my car was really outstanding.

This might be a weird sequence of questions, but could you give an idea of the type of sound improvements you got? Is it just car audio that is mostly improved? Or is it family sedan quiet now? Are any little creaks and rattles gone? Do doors have a more reassuring thud when they close?

Thanks sorry for the OCD barrage of questions.

Ok. Audio is slightly better. Definitely not newer car quiet, LOL, DEFINITELY not like my Lincoln but the road noise was significantly deadened. Rattles i heard before were gone, ya know, just the little things. But yes actually driving at highway speeds i noticed a definite noise reduction.
Doors? hahaha yeaaaaaaa those good ol dsm doors. No, they dont sound too much different but its 100% the window rattle that all dsms have. Theres a way to fix that but when i was at that point i was so damn sore and tired i didnt want to dick with the window sliders. Now the noise that can be heard through the door, windows UP obviously is like the rest of the car: A good bit quieter.

I got the stuff at lowes iirc. Hell i may have posted it in this thread. But it wasnt called peal n seal, that im sure of. Its identical though and while you will smell the asphalt smell when you open it, after its installed and everythings put together, in no time the smell is completely gone. I have zero tar smell in my car with about(i checked just now) I used ~ 2.75 rolls. Not quite 3.

Another cheap trick to stop rattling is get some of the lightest carpet padding you can. Stuff it in every crevice. I know that i so ghetto but you cant tell when its put together! I used a little padding where i thought the interior panels might rattle, definitely didnt go overboard. But the road noise reduction can be attributed to the "peal n seal like stuff" i used, not the tiny bits of padding i used in a couple places.

So is it tar adhesive? Have you tried to remove it? Lol

hmmmmmmm.
If i went through all the hours of applying it why would i want to remove it?
Anyway, have you ever removed dynamat? The PO used that in some areas and it was NOT coming off easily. If i ever turn it in to more than a weekend warrior car and im really concerned about the 9 lbs of weight i guess ill find out how tough it is to remove. Until then ill be quite content with it, seeing how it did an adequate job at a reasonable price and suits my needs just fine.

Just to make things clear: If i was REALLY wanting the best and didnt care about money of course i would go with a good rubber based deadener. Im just letting others know my personal experience. Its cheap, it works but it surely doesnt work as well as a good quality dynamat or similar product. I dont want to come off like im promoting this shit over the real deal.

Sorry for the absence in the thread. When I first did this, I had a smell for maybe a week. I've never smelt anything ever again. The smell was faint too. I could easily drive with the windows up and AC on. As far as removing it. It's not coming off without a fight, but either is Dyno-mat. If you think there is a chance you need to remove that area, don't put it there, similar to how I cut out over every bolt in the doors.

LTUDSM, great job!
