I recently got a hold of a new project car that had thrown a rod bearing, the head was ok so I had the 2g head rebuilt and found a 1g 7-bolt on craigslist for a good deal, I know that the 6-blot swap is done all the time so I figured that the 7-bolt swap would be the exact same, correct me if im wrong.

I have searched and searched and cannot find very detailed imformaction on a couple specific things.

I know the whole prosses to trim the 2g moter mount to fit around the 1g water pump as you can see in this pic that I done that.

But I couldnt find any information about having to trim the water pump itself, as you can see in the pic the timing belt tentioner arm hits the water pump.

You can see it doesnt leave much room to tighten the timing belt, I know that the blue pully also tightens the belt, but is that enough room for the tentioner arm to do its job?

Is it a common thing to have to trim the water pump?

The next poblem is the water port on the front of the 2g block

The 1g 7-bolt block does not have this port, when I was pulling the motor I cant even remember where the line even went to, how can I get around not using this line? What is it for ?

This is the line.

Thanks in advance for all the help you can give, these are the only things that are keeping me from putting the motor in, they are causing me to pull my hair out LOL :banghead:

Thanks for the link thats exactly what I needed I didnt think at all to use the 1g tenchioner arm, I browsed all the site but didnt see anything about the water port on the front of the block does anybody have any information on that ?

The water port on the 2G block is the turbocharger coolant feed line. On a 1G, that feed line comes from the thermostat housing. Fortunately, a 1G thermostat housing will mount on a 2G head.

Well thats just what I needed i just want to thanks everyone again for there help :) , and I will post what happends next i am hoping to get the engine in by this weekend, I cant wait to crak this thing up for the first time its ging to be the best filling well im out to go work on it thanks everyone!

Maybe the link isn't working anymore? I don't see anything on that page that discusses that, and none of the links on that page I'm clicking on seem to work.

I'm wondering about this as well cause the motor I just put in (from a salvage yard) threw a rod. I need a motor until I can build my stroker and the salvage yard doesn't have any 2g motors but they do have 1g 7 bolts. I have a 7 bolt Quarter Master clutch and wanna hold onto that, as well as a 2g Jay Racing alternator relocation kit, so I'm not sure if it'll still work or not.

Don't wanna waste my time pulling out a motor that won't work. Been searching this as well but not finding much. And guessing the timing components are different???

No replies yet. Oh well. Can anyone point out any other differences between the 1g and 2g 7 bolt motors? Or is that all? Not sure what's having to be done to the motor mount. Can't really see in the picture posted above.

You run the 2g mount but it needs to be trimmed like for a 6 bolt swap.

You also need to run a 1g cas as the 1g 7 bolt doesn't have the recess for the 2g crank sensor.

I'd be keeping my 2g head so that wouldn't apply.

Anyone know if the head bolts are the same size? Or are they the same as the 6 bolts? Also, wondering about the back of the block for the Jay Racing alternator relocation kit. Wondering if it'd bolt up the same or not. Hmmm....

Oh, and I didn't see any answer about the tensioner arm. Guessing it fits okay?

The mount bolts to the block, the head that is on it is irrelevant to the need to mod the mount, it's the block that matters.

7 bolt head bolts/studs are the same whether 1 or 2g, it's a 7 bolt so you need 7 bolt bolts/studs.

You need the 1g 7 bolt tensioner arm.

I'm talking about the cas. I'd be using the 2g (98) head so I'd still be keeping my 2g cas.

How'd you install the crank sensor if there's nowhere to put it? Isn't the 1g and 2g front case bolt pattern the same? Meaning, couldn't I just use a 2g front case?

Only other issue I'm not sure about is wondering if my 2g alternator relocation kit would swap over or not.

Exactly my point, that's why you run a 1g cas with this combo. I can't confirm if the 1g 7bolt and 2g 7bolt front cases are the same or not, my 2g one was junked so I ran with the 1g front case.

I'm 99% sure the same castings are on the back of the block, so the alternator relocation should be zero issue.

Well, I just looked at Extreme's website and the part number for all 7 bolts are the same for the front case. MD327450. One issue solved.
