Ive been checking this thread out a long time myself, but just as TSI has suggested, I am one of those who doesnt really have anything to contribute so I havent posted:D Ive been wanting to see these cars for a long time and Im most interested in the mods that were used in the day to make the cars competitive. I hope this thread keeps going and we get to see more :thumb:

I was suprised to see only a few seconds off from NA to Turbo. What do you suspect the reason is there?

My tribute to the old road race Eagle's can be found ghost faded on my doors!

Well, 2.76 seconds to be exact. That's a decent gap. And #32 is exactly where I thought it would be. Now, some of my thoughts. First, neither car is at it's 'optimum.' Especially, #32. It's got some braking issues that need to be resolved. From what I've read, #32 is approx. 400 lbs. Heavier than the #34 NA car. Also, #32 no longer has the 11'' rotors with the PBR calipers. Apparently, one of the rotors broke, and the whole system was removed. So, now it's got 2G calipers and rotors. Basically, the same stuff that's hauling down the NA .

Also, the #32 turbo car is also on 205/55/16 tires. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. Still a street tire. Nice tires, but a short window and then they get slippery. The Archers' had alot of issues with burning tires and brakes on the 1990 FWD turbo cars. The PBR brake set up was part of the solution.

There are some other issues with the cars as well. Neither the cars nor the driver are up to full speed yet.

I think most of us do not have much to contribute. This is more of an information thread, and you are the teacher.

Thanks for all the great info :)

Never really thought about it like that, but, fair enough.

Well, thanks for the compliment! Glad you're liking it...

I'm sure there's lots of interest man, but people are being respectful and not cluttering your thread with one-liners like "Cool pics!" or "Awesome bro!". This is great stuff :) We're just taking in whatever you want to share.

Yeah, ok, that's cool. Alright, glad you like, glad you stopped back through!

I look at this thread every time there is a new post.

Like others have said, I don't have much to contribute so I don't post anything, but I love seeing the pics and learning about the history. I know it probably seems like you're just posting for no reason sometimes, but I'd appreciate it if you kept it going.

Alright, sweet. I will definitely keep it going!

This^^ the more pics the better....this is definitly one of my favorite threads on here! Keep up the infoi appreciate it a lot!

Great! Glad to know this. Exactly the feedback I was looking for.

I understand. However, I'm glad you posted. I will get into talking about and posting some pictures of some of the cool things they did. I've got quite a bit of literature and info relative to the Archers' Eagle Talon program. I'll post things relative to these two cars and the 1990 & 1991 seasons here.

That makes sense knowing how under braked the early 1gs are. I read some where that during the endurance races they had pad swaps down to a science since after a stint on track they would "banana" them with the single piston set up.

Related to the Archer Bros, I spotted this at the Lime Rock Historics. I wasn't expecting that.

The kids into DSM's these days probably do not even know who the Archer's are/were!

That is awesome that you want to keep them as original as you can. I would be interested in some pics of the interior and engine bay.

Well, didn't need a survey. However, seeing that the 'Archer Bros. Talon Resurrection' thread has only 200 posts in a 6.5 year stretch, I wondered if there would be much interest. There are other things I can spend time and energy on rather than posting here in the forums, especially if it's unappreciated.

Now, to all the people that have expressed interest, I appreciate it and would like to continue. I'd like to answer questions and give more info.

I guess I thought there would be some interest from certain individuals, I guess times change that's all.

Hey man keep it up! I'm very interested and I'm sure this thread will gain more interest with some more posts. I appreciate DSM history so much but there isnt much to find online anymore. Any pictures you have to put up of your restoration will contribute to our DSM history. Thanks for taking your time to do all of us a favor.

I got some pics of #32 today from the last track day I ran on August 24th at Lime Rock Park. I'm also going to first post a few pics of #34, also at LRP, April 13th.

Enjoy!

Yeah, not to mention the Archer's were being 'awarded' penalty ballast weight which would would speed up the process of tire and brake pad wear. I'm not sure when in the 1990 season that the SCCA allowed the switch to the PBR calipers and 11'' rotors. Unfortunately, one of those rotors broke under ownership of the gentleman that bought the car out of a museum collextion. He couldn't source the correct rotor, and therefore swapped the 2g brakes on. The rotors and calipers never made their way to me. He seems to think he gave all that stuff to the last owner that I got it from, but, he can't remember. I did receive the custom brackets that I'm assuming the Archer's made to accomodate the PBR calipers, so I'm still left wondering why I didn't receive the other components.

Wow! That's so awesome. That appears to be the truck that Tommy Archer won the driver's championship with in 1988. Now, I really wish I had made it up there. But, in the end, I just couldn't. Bummer, bigtime bummer......

The kids into DSM's these days probably do not even know who the Archer's are/were!

That I'm sure is true. It's been 17 years since the last season they ran Talons.

I'm trying to keep them as original as possible, however, things like the brake issue I'm discussing, might cause me to stray from that some. If I wasn't actually driving the cars, and needing to keep ''safety first'' in mind, I wouldn't think to alter anything. Nothing I'd ever do wouldn't be able to be returned with ''bolt-on/off'' ease.

Awesome! And will do. I know the pics are important. I'll have more time to share here as fall sets in. Very true, there isn't much online. I've searched high and low and spent considerable time and money to acquire the info I have over the last eight years. I'll start to share some of that as well, some of it is supercool stuff.

My tribute to the old road race Eagle's can be found ghost faded on my doors! :thumb:

Noticed I didn't say anything about these....those are awesome!

Nice shots Phil! Those cars just look like they belong there!

Thanks! The photog got some nice shots that day. I like the flame shooting at the ground in the last pic! I still have some more shots to collect from some friends as well.

Awesome! Cool pics bro!!

:D Haha you know I couldn't resist ;)

Just to let you know I'm still alive. I know, gotta get over there (life intervenes). Jealous as hell that you are driving......and I'm not! Sweet seeing the progress.

LOL. Damn you! Thanks for stoppin' in! Agreed, life intervenes. Been wondering what you've been up to. Glad you like.....yeah, I enjoy driving a tad! You gotta get back into it! I hope to start work on my AWD within a couple weeks. The Archer cars will need some work as well. Even with some issues, both cars performed pretty well. You might be happy to know, the #34 NA car is hands down the better car thus far. Maybe not quicker overall, but a better car.

Definitely plan to stop through before it gets too cold!

Ill admit the archers where a bit before my time and I don't know much about them and what they've done. I have picked up little bits here and there to know what they've done has left some great Dsm history. My contributions to the thread will be minimal. But I am poppin in here catching up completely and learning all about it.

Looks like the track is a lot of fun.

Can't change that! But, glad you're interested! The track is a blast, should be better when I get some of the issues with the cars ironed out.

I'll be more active with updates this fall. I have some info that I'll be posting relative to the race history on both cars. It's pretty impressive stuff.

Thanks for brushing off the cobwebs and sparking this discussion:thumb:. The Evo platform is well known for its rally heritage, but there's not mutch out there as far as racing heritage on the DSm platform (aside from their success in drag racing). I thought I remembered seeing an Archer 2g Talon race on TV when I was growing up, but I had no idea there were so many 1g's. Although I have nothing of value to contribute to this thread, I look forward to future posts that may bring out more history on these cars, thanks again for sharing:applause:.

Phil, I am sure a lot of people have more than a passing interest on these cars, at least I know I do, I think I may be maybe one of the lucky persons to have seen, and competed against these cars.

The Archers were very well known in the road racing community before they were involved with the dsms, and they had success with every platform.

I remember talking to them, I think it was at Daytona, after they stumped and surprise everyone there. Of course everyone knew who they were from their previous success with the Renaults and we feel very lucky we have one of those.

Most guys are a lot younger and dont know that these cars achieved their reputation in Rally and Road Racing long before they did as drag cars.

You are very lucky to have these cars and I am sure you are also very proud.

Keep us all up to date on your findings.

Mandy

This is so cool, if you don't mind can I share a few pictures and a link on our facebook page?

Welcome! Well, I have a pretty sizeable amount of info that I've gathered, but you're right, there isn't much in circulation. It's possible you did see an Archer 2g on TV. The Archers' ran 1g cars for 5 seasons in three different configurations. That was followed by 3 seasons with the 2g cars. And btw, your value here is that in itself, you're here! Hope you enjoy...:thumb:

Yes, I am seeing that as there is a nice gathering here!

That is awesome that you got to see them run in their era. I wish I could have!

You're right about the younger crowd, and I'd guess a good portion of the community doesn't have much of an idea. And if we go back to 1996, me as a newcomer to the crowd, had no idea either. I got into it through drag racing as most did. Most people know me as a hard-nosed, rough around the edges, drag racer. What most don't know is how calculated I am, and what a stickler for details I am.

Thank you, I'm super happy, and yes, proud to own them. Everytime I see them, it sparks a nostalgic moment that is hypothetical in nature. The only 'real' images I get are ones from still photos that I have. But, that's ok. I'd love to somehow locate some old race coverage, I bet that's few and far between.

I will keep updating for sure and add bits and pieces here and there.

We need to stay in touch, would like to hear of the Renault.

Thanks for posting!

This is so cool, if you don't mind can I share a few pictures and a link on our facebook page?

Thanks! Cool to see you here.

Definitely, no problem!

Phil: I've followed this thread since the beginning and enjoy reading your posts. As someone who watched these cars since the beginning, and an owner since the mid 90's, it's fantastic to see people keeping the history alive. Keep up the great work!

Thanks very much! Glad you're following here. I'm currently getting more of the original livery reproduced for #34. It's taking quite a while as I'm trying to make it as correct as possible. Hopefully, within a couple weeks I'll be closer to done with that. There will be just a few missing links. Even during the '91 season, the car went through several livery changes. I'm going to gather some pictures together to try to illustrate the transition.

What about interior shots? Are they gutted out?

I can find some and/or take some new ones. Yes, for the most part gutted. The #34 NA is fully gutted except for dash. #32 still has dash, center console, door panels, and carpet.

I would love to see some pics of how the cage was done if possible.

Ok, however the cage in #34 isn't it's original cage, but, it's built close to the original. #32's cage is more basic in design. Being that #34's doors are/were gutted, it has nascar bar type cagework.

Good thread!
I can contribute to this as I know alot of history of all the cars as they were recounted to me by Bruno and Anthony Buso.
Anthony and Bruno were racing a 1g that they bought alot of parts from the Archers, as far as I know it was everything from engines to transmissions. Their car was originally a 1993 Laser. Comptech was demanding that the motors run no longer than 6 hrs before they were rebuilt. The Buso's thought this was getting expensive, and seeing as their shop was literally across the river from me which was literally 400 ft north of me, I began helping them out with what I could and I suggested we keep the motors in the cars for longer as they could probably go for 3 times that life at their power level. Their showroom stock was not quite showroom stock, I still think I may have tucked away some secret parts they used to have an 'edge' over the competition.
I ended up updating the hell out of that 1993 Laser, and in the end it was given to me because they lost interest in it and nowhere to park it. I still have that car. THIS IS NOT AN ARCHER CAR it just at one point had alot of Archer parts on it.
As for the 2G's I heavily modified one of them, (Anthony's) there is not much left Archer on it, that one is fast as hell and is the car we prototyped the dry sump on (it would always kill the oilpump at Mosport). There are pics of it on my website somewhere.
As for Bruno's car it remains original and he called me a few months ago expressing interest to sell it and all his spares. I don't want it, but if anybody else does email me at the shop I will get you into that car. That one hasn't been used in about 8 years. Bruno also has a complete shell that was caged and never finished, he is selling that as well.

I'm glad to see there is some enthusiasm for these cars, It would be nice to see Bruno's car get out again, and people restore them like has been done with these. I've got world of more stories of these cars but Anthony and Bruno have even more. We spent many nights drinking beers and talking about it.
