What kind of lap times were you seeing?

Hey!

Well, officially, with transponder, in the NA #34, 1:07.2, earlier in the season with cooler air. In June, even with new tires, I was a second slower, 1:08.2 best.

Unofficially, with iphone stopwatch, in #32 turbo, I was mid 1:04's best.

That's very respectable for LRP!

Thanks! I'm sure there's more left.....practice practice....

I'm gonna get the qualifying laps from when the Archer Team was there in '89, '93, & '95 just for comparisons' sake.

Pretty sure in '89 Bobby/Tommy qualified at 1:05.7 in the AWD.

Well if you further the mods...I'm sure you can get there...and lower. Ask me how I know :hellyeah:

I've got 1.5 seconds on the table in driving alone, in both cars.

There's no real plans to add power to the cars, except for possibly adding the header to the NA car. No plans to run wider than the 7'' wide wheels and 205 width tires. I ran the 7.5'' wide K1s on the NA car with no advantage noted.
I'm trying to keep these two cars as close to how they were originally raced as I can.

I've got my AWD to set up for track days once I'm done with the drag stuff. I'll be able to have a decent amount of power there.

Yeah, your friend with the EVO said you've been under a minute flat?

I'd like to know your time, tire width & type, and awhp #, then I'm gonna throw a statistic your way that may shock you.....

Best was a :58 on a 235/45/17 RA1. The car at that time was making around 375 to the wheels. Knowing now the tire you're running, I'm even more impressed. Just popped a Ross ringland in cylinder #1 this weekend at NJMP so i don't think I'll be back running in time for LRP later this month. Depending on how bad the bore measures will dictate my rebuild schedule.

Nice, 58s is movin' at LRP.

Oh thanks!

Damn, that doesn't sound good. Bummer, was hoping to meet you.

And the statistic: In 1993, Archer Racing driver, Willy Lewis, in the 1gb Talon, qualified with a 59.1 lap time. Here's the kicker, the current owner dynoed the car at 233 fwhp!

Wow what a great thread! Glad to see someone taking care of history right here. I would love to know what happened to the 2G Archer Racing Talon, not to steal any thunder.

Thanks! The 2g cars have been dicussed in other threads. It is my understanding that one or two may still be around. There were three race 2G's. I know one for sure was sold to a Daytona based race team, stripped of the yellow livery, repainted white, and raced as a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Not sure if the other two are still around. I'm thinking about starting a general Archer Racing Thread to discuss all things Archer, as I like all of it. On that note, I was hoping to keep this thread's focus on these particular cars.

Hi guys,

long time dsm'er here but rarely ever post on tuners but i thought i would add what i know about the 2g archer cars.

Three of the archers cars are in Canada. Two owned by Bruno who raced them in Canadian touring car when they were eligible and the last was bought by a guy that owns squid skins fiberglass. I run into him at bike shows and he talked my ear off about the talon. His cut it uo a ton though with converting pieces to carbon but has kept the livery intact.

That is very interesting to learn, and thank you for telling us. I checked out that website, poor talon! He added an eclipse spoiler on such a rare piece of history.

I love DSM history, so I stitched together this ad I found that shows off the Archer Racing 1G. Maybe it could help you add the proper decals to make the restoration completely accurate, but I'm sure you know what needs to be done.

I'm very excited to see the final results of your Archer Talons.

Hi guys,

Here is the guys website:

Just a heads up, the first one still in the Eagle livery is a different car (Probably a '97 with some graphics) than the red/white/green car (which is the former pro car). So everyone doesn't have to be all boo hoo about it.

Thanks, that's a great ad, have it framed. However, that is the 1989 AWD car. While it wears the Thrifty like my '90 FWD, there are some livery differences. Furthermore, my '91 NA car is the one that needs the restoration. It's almost complete. It changed several times during the '91 race season actually. So, I'm kinda picking what I like the most and using that.

Thanks for your interest. I'll be posting some info soon as I had #32 on track this past Friday and Saturday. Waiting on some pictures...

Any chance you're brining these to the Lime Rock Historics?

That's an awesome idea and I'd love to do that. However I'm not even sure how that would work. I think I checked with SVRA several years ago and they said the '91 would be eligible. I'm gonna try to make it up there this Saturday and maybe investigate it for the possibity next year. Maybe we can meet up.

Keep up the good work Phil, and the updates. Track pics rock!

Thanks Shane! It's been a busy month for me. Now that things have settled, I'll have some time to get some info and pics up from this seasons track days. Hopefully, incar gopro and a few short out of car vids. I had planned to give some history on the two cars as well.

Lime Rock Park, 1.53 mile course

Final best times:

#34, NA FWD : 1:07.28

#32, Turbo FWD : 1:04.52

Hmmm. I just can't seem to generate much interest in here. Bummer.

However, right out of the gate, I figured interest would be sparse, my reasoning for giving somewhat of a survey before I even posted any pics.

A few guys didn't say much other than 'post pics damnit.' So, I do that, never to have them return, or if they did, they said nothing. This includes you Ludachris, what gives? I figured you'd be interested. Obviously, you've been floating around here.

Oh well.

Why do you need a survey to post pics? I for one am very interested in seeing pics of these bad boys but particularly the videos. The more digital media we have of the history of road race 1g's the better. Post em up!...and if not here then the gallery.

I was suprised to see only a few seconds off from NA to Turbo. What do you suspect the reason is there?

My tribute to the old road race Eagle's can be found ghost faded on my doors! :thumb:

Well, didn't need a survey. However, seeing that the 'Archer Bros. Talon Resurrection' thread has only 200 posts in a 6.5 year stretch, I wondered if there would be much interest. There are other things I can spend time and energy on rather than posting here in the forums, especially if it's unappreciated.

Now, to all the people that have expressed interest, I appreciate it and would like to continue. I'd like to answer questions and give more info.

I guess I thought there would be some interest from certain individuals, I guess times change that's all.

I think most of us do not have much to contribute. This is more of an information thread, and you are the teacher.

Thanks for all the great info :)

I'm sure there's lots of interest man, but people are being respectful and not cluttering your thread with one-liners like "Cool pics!" or "Awesome bro!". This is great stuff :) We're just taking in whatever you want to share.

I look at this thread every time there is a new post.

Like others have said, I don't have much to contribute so I don't post anything, but I love seeing the pics and learning about the history. I know it probably seems like you're just posting for no reason sometimes, but I'd appreciate it if you kept it going.

This^^ the more pics the better....this is definitly one of my favorite threads on here! Keep up the infoi appreciate it a lot!
