I want to give my experience with this turbo.
I am the first and only owner of a 1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.
At just over 200k miles my turbo failed. The shaft broke in half. The cause of the turbo failure, I believe was a cracked nipple on OEM BOV. If it were not for that it probably would still be running.

Super fast boost, even at my 7000+ elevation. Full 15 psi at 2500 rpm.

In my opinion if you have a dd and do not typically rev motor above 4 or 5 k this little feller is a fantastic, very well made, durable turbo.

I however will be swapping it out for a s16g.... Only because of my elevation.

This is in my opinion a very very good turbo if used as it was designed for on a stock set up.

I will not be selling mine even though it will probably just sit on a shelf. It's just too good a turbo to sell for pennies because most want something bigger.

I may be the only one to think this but for stock or mild up grades, and if you want instant boost this is the turbo I would pick.

A cracked BOV nipple wouldn't likely cause a shaft to break unless you were overboosting as if the turbo had no wastegate for the past two years.

If you had 200K on a T25, it was long overdue a failure. The factory thrust hardware in a T25 is horrible- thin with zero load-bearing capability. Literally every T25 failure I've seen in a decade of messing with these cars was thrust-related.

They're junk; undersized, and never belonged on a DSM. Bot a single person on this site who has ever upgraded a T25 to a 14B or 16G has ever said "man, I miss that thing...."

I know the 14b is a good turbo. I acutlly just sold one. But I cannot say I ever read anything about someone having over 200k on one. Maybe there are but I can only give my experience with a T-2 poopLOL

You've owned this car since new and can confirm this to be the factory-installed turbo?

My '97 GSX with 68K original miles had T25 thrust parts in the oil pan when I dropped it to eliminate the balance shafts....so in 68,000 miles, my car was on it's second T25.

As I said- junk. Any car I've ever serviced for having a blown T25 had a Mitsu turbo on it when it left.

I've always wondered why a company that manufactures turbos put a turbo from another company on one of their cars.
I've often though the fact that the cars were assembled in the us had something to do with it. As the td04l 13t would have been a more durable option in that flow range.

Yes sir, bought it at a dealership in southern Chicago in early spring of 1996. With less than 100 miles on odometer.

Wife drove it for years, back and forth to work. Engine probably never seen 5500 rpm.

I can post the loan statement for my loan for the car $18,600 is what I think I paid for it new in 1996.

My ex wifes 97 gsx auto came with a blown t 2 small and bad motor so the first thing i did was put the new motor and a 14b on and it still is running that same 14b.
Imo the only good thing about the t25 is the wastegate actuator because you can modify it to operate the cyclone butterflies
but op if you like the way a t25 was why not look for a t28 which is basically the same as a s16g...just a thought

It may have lasted you a long time, but the turbo is WAY too small to be mated to a 2.0L engine.

Any turbo can last a long time, as long as it's manufactured, balanced, installed correctly, oil changed regularly, and not overspun.

He just said he was replacing it with a small 16g. Why would you suggest a 14b instead?

Cause im a pusher of the 14b.

Personally the 13g was where I was stuck for the longest time.I went small 16g then e3, and back to the 14b. And I'm just loving the 14b.

I personally like the T25. Haven't had any problems with it yet and I'm going into 98K with it still. Very smooth, too! IMO, It's fine for a stock engine. I'm happy with it.

Although, I have to admit they do seem to get a bad rep due to crappy, neglectful owners. The blown ones that I have seen look like road kill was used to lubricate it. The turbines were nearly non-existent from letting the bearings go bad for too long.

The T-25 on my car now is running very good....although at my elevation and 15psi boost its being worked pretty hard.

It is my belief that the key to long turbo life for the T-25 is:

1) 3 to 5 minute cool down before shutting engine off
2) Keeping stock boost levels....IE around 11 or 12 psi
3) Religious oil changes
4) a good working BOV and waste-gate actuator.

I guess that could be said for all turbos....:coy:

Yah, I know and when I do decide to put the s16G on I will probably say man why did I ever wait? I cannot speak for a 14B, or any 16G or any other turbo. All I can say is that the T-25 has served me very well and when I do put the S16G on I will keep everything needed to reinstall the T-25, just in case, I would be the only one on this forum to actually say...." I miss that thing"

I realize it is small....its probably not even big enough for a couple cylinders in my 552 CID Ford(see avatar) but it works relatively well in my 122 cid motor.

How insightful.. I have a few laying around, want them? They are pretty much the first thing I encourage people to remove after doing maintenance, picking up Link and getting fuel mods under way. Not a one of them said "man I should never have listened to you"

Got at least 4 on the shelf that came off running cars, 300 plus shipping takes them!

Both of my 95 gst's had over 200k on the stock t25. One I blew turning boost up to high LOL. And the other is on my friends car in Cali as we speak, he said it doesn't smoke one bit LOL. The one I blew never gave me any issues until I turned up the boost!

Sell them for pennies on the dollar?? Shit i sold mine with 115k miles on it, and on it's way out to a honda guy for 150 and some herb LOL. People will pay $ for them. Especially honda guys. :) they only wanna run 5psi anyway. Haha :nono:

What are their conditions? If they are basically cores than I think $300 is a fair price.

However, if they are in good shape I think you my be undervaluing them. If they are in good shape and no issues I would think someone would be VERY VERY interested at $75 each for them. If nothing else so they can pass emissions by putting it on for a few days.

t25 pride!

I've been beating the crap (18ish psi) out of my 100k mile t25 for over 3 years :)

Where do you find a honda guy that would want a T-25....I know where there are 4 of them for $300:p at $150 a pop thats $600 or a $300 profit....I would even spring for shipping for that.

He was a local, i guess it came with the manifold, he has an h22 i believe so minor modification :)

I bought a bone stock spyder for my g/f with a blown engine a few months back. She now has a .020 over 9.1CR T-25 powered spyder that has had ALL maintanence performed. The only thing not stock besides the bottom end is a HKS BOV, some eBay hard piping and a eBay catback. I have to admit I truly do love driving her car. The t-25 spools so insanely fast it's not even funny. I was honestly surprised how well it performs since I had never riden in a t-25 car before hers. She is going to be heading to the track with me next weekend to see what kind of times the little guy will put down. She should be quick enough to beat all the Hondas that usually hang out at my track.

I wonder how long the T-25 will last on her setup?

If she is running synthetic oil, I would bet it will last quite a while. Back in 96 when I bought my Talon Synthetic was a very expensive somewhat unknown product.

Today, with synthetic being readily available and zinc additives to replace the additives that were in oil in the 90s the turbo should be very well lubed and last quite a while.

At 9:1 the turbo is spooling a little faster than stock I would assume....mine is 9:1 too but again my light air up here does not reflect as well as it would in the corn belt.

WOW I did not realize there were more people like me who really like the T-25.:thumb:
