The 32 car is still safe and sound in my garage. Last time at the track we had some minor trans issues. We fixed a shift fork that was stuck but haven't been nack to the track with the car since. I have a few other race and track cars and they've taken more time.

As for the "modifications" I wanted to do to the car, that's basically add more doorbars to the cage which would require gutting the interior door panels. That would be the most radical of any changes. I would also like to add some upgraded intake and exhaust bolts ons like the 33 car had already. Actually, all of the changes I would like to make would equal what the 33 car has already. I always preferred the 33 car but Jim had sold it by the time I was ready to buy anything.

It's possible I would entertain selling the car to another enthusiast who would want to keep and maintain it's integrity. I have no desire to change it's livery. I wouldn't mind making more progress on my Rx-8 racecar to be and the money from the sale would go towards that.

Being around these cars is definately a time warp. Most people have never seen an unmolested, crazy low miles DSM that is this clean. Everything on them looks like it's a year or two old at most.

This has got to be one of the longest running threads ever... :thumb:

My first encounter with an Archer Bros Eagle Talon was at the 1995 Dallas Grand Prix, where I saw their stable of '95 AWD cars in the iconic Eagle livery. Anybody know what ever happened to these cars? Are they the ones that ended up in the Daytona 24 a few years later in different livery? I always loved this look...

I thought this was one of the best looking racecars of it's time. I remember getting my copy of Sportscar with one of these on the cover back in the day. I saw one of these cars on Ebay in the past year or two. Unfortunately it had lost it's livery and wasn't complete.

I'm not positive that the Spirit of Daytona car was one that was raced by the Archer Brothers Team in SCCA competition, but it was built by the Archer shop and campaigned as an Eclipse. However, here is a clue for you: Welcome to BB Racing

This seems to be an important development.

Is this a part of what you are inquiring about, Scott?

Congrat's if this happens/has happened, Phil.

Jim, been a while since I'm up here. Thanks! I've had a busy year thus far and no real time to devote to cars in general. I'm back in the loop finally...

Ah, good stuff...thanks! I've met Troy Fliss a couple of times and we have a good friend in common, so I will make it a point to ask about the cars. Thanks again, Stan

Welcome! I love the road racing history of the DSMs. That's cool! I've tried to reach Troy on the phone a few times in the past but no luck. I'd be interested in what you find out.

Phil

Okay, I just spoke to my friend who is their team manager. He said that they bought the car directly from the Archer Bros still in the yellow & black eagle silhouette livery. They then converted the trim pieces to Eclipse and repainted the car. After the race the car was sold to someone in Latin America, and my friend hasn't heard anything of the car since. He doesn't know what became of the other cars.

That's what I was afraid of, bummer. Pretty sure the link I posted for you above is where the other two went. Here's a question for your friend, can he remember what number car they received? 32, 33..? Pictures somewhere maybe? Thanks for the info! Interesting for sure.

A friend of mine has a hood very strikingly similar to the one in the car, I will have to have him send me a picture of it.

Phil, I sent my friend an email (it's getting a bit late to call) asking for the car # and any info/pics he can share.

Chris, I'd love to see the photo. BTW, when I lived in Tucson back in the late 90's I used to see an Eagle on the street sporting the yellow/black liver. A "tribute car", if you will. Very cool looking.

Nice, thanks! So, hard to find info and pics these days.

While it's not a DSM I thought since we're talking about old Archer cars this might be of interest.

The "famous" 32.

Together and in color.

This Renault didn't take to the revs to well.

Best of luck, this car is awesome! Please give some updates when you can.

Great shots! I've seen some over the years, the Renault stuff was cool. I also like their Chevy Cavalier hatchbacks. The Archers' definitely had some cool cars to campaign.

I am pretty sure the 33 car (Renault), is the same one I posted the picture before, I will get confirmation from my buddy today and he has the complete history of the car, and the 32 Le Car is also the one he had as they at one time had both cars, we are working on the car at this time and hope to have it on the track again by early next year with a big surprise.

I can post some more pictures of the Renault if you guys like, even if it is not a DSM car. But I think a lot of what the Archers did to them transfer over to the DSM cars.

More pics would be great. Renault were sold out of Jeep dealers so it all intertwines and ends up with the Eagles. I'm sure some of the things they did early on with other race cars probably comes out in the Talons, good point.

Here's a new one to me...the Archer Bros evidently raced Jeeps back in the late 80's. There's one on ebay right now...check it out!

Surprised you weren't aware! I'll try to figure out who drove the #93 on ebay. Read the text, looks like it was Tommy that drove that truck to the 1988 Championship, but, I'm fairly certain it was under his #33. So, maybe it was re-numbered.

I am in White Bear Lake area of the Twin Cities and there is a car with the full yellow and black graphics matching that race car. I wonder if he is who you are referring to. I saw it driving the other day but I certainly would love to get a history report on that car even just a matter of where the body came from...

What a kick to come across this thread! Mitch Wright did all the prep work on my Talon throughout the first half of the 1990's when I lived in Minneapolis - I made many many trips to the Archer shop in Duluth because they were THE source for getting the most out of a Talon/Eclipse - there were no DSM modification parts catalogs back then. That was a first class race shop and it was always fascinating to check out their race cars while I was up there having my Talon "tweaked".

My son ended up buying his first car from Mitch by doing landscaping work at Mitch's house when he worked for the SCCA (we both moved to Denver about the same time). I learned a lot from Mitch.

We watched the Archers team race DSM's, then Trans Am, throughout the Midwest.

I talked a bit with John Archer just today and it appears that one of the "black and yellow" 2g cars may come up for sale soon. We had a good talk about some of the old Archer cars....

When you speak with him again, tell him one of the Alliances will be seeing the track again, and with a big surprise, after sitting for about 15 yrs.

It will probably be done before my Talon.
