Ok the first part is a copy and paste from my build journal from back when threads werent allowed LOL.

Ok don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to these build threads, but here goes.

Ok it's a 95 gst 5speed. When I got the car it had all kinds of oil leaks and wouldn't idle, but I got a good deal on it because of the problems. Spent a day trying to fix the idle problem then decided it was a waste of time with the more important oil leaks. Luckily when i got the car the PO had already bought a complete timing and gasket kit so i pulled it in the garage and started pulling the motor.

I then found out it was an actual 6 bolt.

Wish i would have taken more pics while i was rebuilding the engine, but it was an oem rebuild so not much to see really. this was the first time i have pulled a motor and rebuilt so i had a few snags. then when i was finished i realized i messed up the timing steps and bent the intake valves on 1&4, so after getting the head reworked i put it back together again.

Then came the idle issue I was dreading. I tested every sensor that i could find a way to test, and the ones i couldn't i borrowed to test them to no avail. then i started checking for vacuum leaks and found a huge one around the whole intake manifold. Turns out a 6bolt gasket was put on the 7bolt head, and as we mostly all know 6bolt intakes have larger ports therefore it wasn't sealing.
Then it was mods time since all maintenance was finished and it was running correctly.
The t25 was blown of course so i went ahead and got a ebay 16g kit, i know don't say it i took a chance and it is working great so far. threw in a evo 9 pump and AFPR. Also bought a socketed eprom ecu off a member to be ready for the big step.

after it was running good another weird problem started going on with power lose and weird idle, after trying everything i could think of to figure it out i went ahead and put in the eprom with a chip the guy included that he "tuned" for 16 psi with this setup. I also put in a hallman and turned the boost up to 16 to match what he tuned it for. Fixed the problem and is running great.

Next came the PR FMIC.

now before you say something about the mounts, the kit i got didn't come with mounting bar and these were the first stage and they ended up looking pretty good wish i would have snapped a pic of the after but forgot.

Next i really hate to run with no bumper, so i went ahead and finished the 2gb front end.

Then i did some easy stuff like painting up the valve cover "HKS" purple and cleared it and threw it on with some ss bolts.

That's how it sets as of right now hopefully i should have an update soon when i get link so i can put in my evo injectors.
Please feel free to give any input, advice, or suggestions just please don't hate like i said first build of anything really, and learning/teaching myself as i go via this site. I also want to thank all the mods, wisemen, and members that make this site so great and useful to noobs like me. Ive learned quite a bit thanks to this site, and I'm actually to the point now where i can actually start helping other with problems I've had and normal dsm problems.

Going from memory here after this I got link and installed it. Threw some 680cc injectors in, 3in exhaust and cat delete DP.

then moved on to cleaning up the engine bay. Relocated the Battery, deleted AC and Cruise control, and finally relocated my fuse box to under the IC piping.

After this I got a carbon fiber hatch in rough shape. Wet sanded it and buffed it.

Then ran it at the drag strip and blew the turbo. Ebay held up good for awhile, but couldnt hang. Decided holset was the way to go. Got a hx35 in BEP bolton, Pr recirc o2, tial wg, and 1200cc injectors. While doing this I decided to pull the head for some valve stem seals and to get a valve job. Replace the hg and threw some arps and delta 272s along with a gates belt.

I was super excited then the head wasnt getting oil, couldnt figure out what was wrong gave up and left it parked for a couple months.

Fast forward to now I bought a freshly rebult shortblock with 0 miles. It has wiseco pistons, scat rods, BSE, and ARP everything.

I also bought some BC cam gears, New Gates waterpump, New bolts for the oil pump and water pump, 6an tank to rail, revised lifters, supertech valve stem seals, and crower springs and TI retainers. The machine shop I bought the block from also included a Brand new still wrapped set of ARP head studs and a brand ne Cometic HG. I also bought the fittings to run 4an line from my comp housing to wg and from my bov to the RRE mdp adapter.
I decided to try my hand at powder coating. I coated my VC, fuel rail, Intake manifold, and throttle body.

I started assemling the rest of the engine today got the head torqued down, water pu,p. water pipe, thermostat housing, Exhaust mani with turbo, and the intake. After that I was tired and was done so I sat the VC on the head for a couple pics to see if the powder coat was worth it.

I think it was LOL.

Tomorrow I plan to do at least the oil pump, oil pan, bolt in the cams, VC. I might try to go ahead and time it. Then it should be ready to go.

I don't usually post on build threads, but there is something that draw my attention in this one (even though its not a 1,000,000HP or Time Attack build) so here i go.

This is awesome for one reason, this proves that even though you are a "noob" or "first time builder" you learn fast, because its what you want you listen to more experienced people and you do it the right way. I really think you are doing an awesome job with everything.
Really looking forward you hitting those 11s on a front wheel drive.

There is nothing negative to say just some opinions that you could care less either way would work just trowing it out there.

1) The manifold the same color of the valve cover makes it look "overdone" this is just opinion. :)
2) If you got that block from someone else make sure to check all the clearances if you got it done for a shop same thing ask for clearances, a motor making power over stock obviously got to have a little more loose clearances.
3) The coil on plug if you don't have something to run it right like (MSD or Dynatek, you are better of with stock coils and plugs, i know it makes it look cleaner but the 11s are more exiting. :)

Hopefully you know what i mean, just wanted to tell my Constructive criticism. waiting on updates... :thumb:

Thanks for the input and kind words. The manifold I can't decide if I like yet or not kinda do but kinda don't. I may end up taking the purple off and leaving the bonded chrome powder on it like the throttle body.

The shop gave me the Clearances on a build sheet I have to find.

The cop is mostly for looks LOL. I am planning on getting a msd off a guy I know just haven't decided yet.

Thanks again

What happen to the build bro. I started reading and got to the end and was like, "noooooooo, LOL". I too am trying for good numbers. Although I didn't set my goals as high as yours I must say it is harder then I thought.

From my experience: I set my goals for myself to run anything starting with a 12.xx. First time at the track last week, 18.xx at 109.xx. Didn't know the tree LOL. Best run was 14.2x at 103.xx. Well I must say I was really disappointed. So I set new goals for myself to just go out and beat my last time each time I go again. Well I went this Wednesday and ran constant 13.xxs with a best of 13.34 at 108.99. And even though it wasn't 12s it felt so good to even get that. And it further motivated myself to keep getting better at driving and getting better times. Today I'm getting hoosier drag radials for traction.

Words of advice:

The power to make the car run 11-12s is easy to make, it's traction and driving that's going to get the time slip.
Invest is some drag radials at the least, but I would get slicks for 11s.
Invest in a double synchros, LSD and taller gears transmission. I only say this because I have to shift into 4th and I know your going to have to for sure so it would make it a little easier if you can ride the gear out further (I think, correct me if I'm wrong).
Seat time, seat time, and more seat time!!!!!!!!
And overall just have fun with it. Don't get upset if you don't go out there and atleast run a 12 and loose focuse, just keep it together and keep trying. We all know it can be done especially with a holset. That was proven by richard33, but I believe he used a hx40.

Anyhow, good luck, I hope you reach your goals, and just remember have fun and keep focused.

I'm still working on it trying to get it running right LOL.

I know it will take I while to hit the goal, this setup is 100% new to me so I'm gonna have to learn how to drive it LOL. 11s is just the over all goal and if/when I hit it I'm going to hopefully go awd LOL.

i know that getting a fwd is hard to get to hook up because of the wheel hop and i changed the driver side axle to a awd and i didnt hop as bad and started to hook up better...i also started to slip the clutch like in an awd and that helped to also i found that about 4500 rpm was a great place to launch at...just giving you my 2 cents on what worked for me and i am going to be following this so a couple of my buddies can read it that are fwd guys

Look forward to seeing you make some passes bro! It's definitely a challenge learning a whole new setup. I'm about to go thru the same thing with my car once my new motor is done, I'm hoping to skip 11's and run mid 10's!:). But im sure ill be closer to mid or low 11's on the hx35 maybe once i get a hx40 ill see some 10's. Keep us updated and ask for help bro that's what we are all here for. :)

I also have a gst and I've set my goals for 11s. I actually base that on a friend who has a lance 1.8l and his best time was 11.4. I my best time before i did my rebuild is 14.4 at 15 psi with a 16g. I now have a PTE 60-1 and hoping to tune with 420hp+. Looking forward to see how about your progress

+1 for all us FWD people trying to make it happen. My car is down and out for some odd reason it's a B to start and then it won't stay on unless I give it gas. Can't wait to see some vieos of your car bro. What are your plans as far as traction? You might have posted but I missed it LOL with all your nice pictures.

First run will probly just be stock everything. Then I will step up to a LSD and slicks.

Here are a few pics of the eBay smim I got to try out.

Looking good! 11's very do-able with a FWD hx35. My first time to the track when I was on a hx35 I went 13.2 missing a gear and then 11.9 LOL. I still don't think I've run a 12sec pass in my life. I ended up with a 10.9 on the 35. I would recommend getting a 26" tall slick. Im using a 26x8.5x15 now which seems to be working well.

Just an update: I finally got my car tuned over the weekend and made 418hp on 23 psi. The clutch started to go some we backed off the boost and ended the day at 388 hp at 15 psi all on pump gas. The torque is is at 332 to 11s is definitely achievable. Once the clutch is changed, we will up the boost to 25 psi and take it to the track.
