i believe i am saying this for many new comer using ecu flash out there but can someone do a video on step by step how to install ecu flash, download the def, rom, etc and where they go. for some its easy but for others like me and many more out there its like huhhhhh? it will be best for videos. just another suggestion i was thinking to myself, why dont ceddy make a disc like ecmlink did where all the files program etc are inside the disc and what you have to do is put the disc in and everything load up to your laptop all def, roms, etc loaded. now they just need to buy the 2.0 cable. make life way easier for beginner tuners like me and many others for a price of course. just my 2 cents on what could be done to help and make some extra money.

Ceddy has stopped further development of this. The only reason he's still selling it is because his site is still up. When I talked to him, he seemed to have no intention of ever doing anything more.

Everything needed to get this running is listed in this thread. There are some videos and info on evolutionm.net that may help, under the ECUFlash section. I think they have some videos.

There will never be great support for the Ceddy stuff. He's stopped working on it and has no intention on doing anything more with it.

wow thanks for the info. this just sucks for most of us 2g guys. esp the 98-99 guys. it was a really great program too. any other tunning device out there for us black box ecu guys ?

can anyone here show me where to put the roms/def. into where. when i right click the rom save as it saves but than when i right click the def and save as it open up a web page showing alien letters.

this is what is in my metadata directory

C:/Users/tony/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/EcuFlash

this is what is inside my rom directory

C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\eclipse20550011-mod-1v9Cb-MAF.hex

is this correct, can someone guide me thru the correct place to put these in or is there something here im missing?

its a 98 gst thanks in advance

forgot to add it is saying unknown rom image?

C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\eclipse

That's where they reside on my 64bit vista laptop.

I would suggest you move to the evolutionm.net site for your ecuflash/scan needs. That's where the experts reside. I've asked for advice on my ecuflash tune on this site, and all I got was crickets.

It probably will never gain traction with DSMs. Link is fool proof, and someone with room temp IQ, (with proper guidance) would be hard pressed to mess it up.

:D well said. Im beginning to lose hope here. Thanks for the info. Time to switch sites LOL. Thanks

TonySpyder, here is a document that was sent to me from the EcuFlash guys.

-------------------EcuFlash Installation-------------------

; for Windows XP users we recommend to install the EcuFlash 1.42
; for Vista/Windows 7 users we recommend to install the 1.43 beta version here: Download Beta Software
; accept all defaults when prompted, do not install to a different directory
; best practice is to install EcuFlash first, after drivers are loaded, then plug in the Openport 2.0 (it will install its drivers)

-------------------Uninstall/Reinstall-------------------

; EcuFlash recommended steps to de-install/re-install to the beta version (1.43)
; steps must be performed in the exact sequence for optimal results
; use the DEEP SCRUB procedure to completely eliminate previous files

1. Make sure the OpenPort cable is NOT connected to your computer
2. In Add/Remove Programs, uninstall all versions of EcuFlash and all drivers with OpenPort, Tactrix, or FTDI in the name. (SEE DEEP SCRUB)
3. In program files, delete the OpenECU folder.
4. Delete any EcuFlash shortcuts that you have on the desktop or elsewhere.
5. Reboot.
6. Download and install the latest version of EcuFlash 1.43 (beta). Download Beta Software. For Vista/Win7 users, right click the EcuFlash installer and select ìrun as adminî.
7. Plug the OpenPort cable into a USB port on your computer.
8. When Windows asks to connect to windows update, select NO, then select ìinstall the software automaticallyî. This may occur twice before the driver install is finished.

DEEP SCRUB:

Sometimes the driver just won't work no matter how much you install/uninstall EcuFlash. This happens 1% of the time, and to fix this, you need to go into the c:\windows\inf\ folder and do a windows search "in file contents" for the word FTDI and delete just those specific inf files. (On my PC I found oem10.inf oem11.inf oem12.inf oem14.inf.) Then reinstall from the EcuFlash installer, then it will work.

(Remember x86 means 32bit windows, and x64 means 64bit version of Windows.)

On some strange situations, when plugging in the "FTDI USB to Serial COM" cable it pops up a message informing you that the driver was not digitally signed correctly and will be disabled. This can be fixed by going to the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder and deleting ftser2k.sys and then UN-installing the driver, plug the cable back in, and reinstalling if requested, using the FTDI driver that comes with ECUFlash in the drivers folder.

BTW, if you are looking for the drivers, EcuFlash has a spare copy of the drivers in their installation folders in case you need them again.

Here are those folder locations:

32-vit version of Windows ->
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenEcu\EcuFlash\drivers\openport 1.3\
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenEcu\EcuFlash\drivers\openport 2.0\

64-bit version of Windows ->
C:\Program Files\OpenEcu\EcuFlash\drivers\openport 1.3\
C:\Program Files\OpenEcu\EcuFlash\drivers\openport 2.0\

double click DPInst.exe to run this driver installation program.
Also if windows asks for a driver folder, you can point it at the right folder above.

Also, make sure that everytime you run Ecuflash, you run it as administrator - you can set it up to do this every time by modifying the EcuFlash Icon shortcut (right-click -> properties -> advanced -> check box "run as administrator").

i have the program and the tactrix cable works but when i try to read an image it says unknown rom image???? it was working before but than my foot had to kick off the flash connector and i thought it was the program itself. deleted it and download again than now this. all i need is anyone with window 7 to run me step by step on where to click where to look for it and download into it. where to put the rom and def. i know ceddy post it up but when i right click save as rom and def i cant seem to find the rommeta file? very frustrating. anyone???

update- ceddymod/ maps etc now works. just need to figure out how to put in the rom or definitions for my car in so i can modified my stock map again. heres what it looks like now.

rom file directory
C:/Users/tony/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/EcuFlash/98_GST_CEDDY.bin

medadata directory
C:/Users/tony/Desktop/EcuFlash/rommetadata/mitsubishi/eclipse

any ideas. when i right click the rom and definitions for 98 gst what do i do next. ceddy maps etc open up but still cant open up my stock rom or the evo8 maps i was using? where do i save it to and whats next. someone give some advice for a beginner learner. thanks in advance

You've got to find where you saved your stock rom to, or the evo8 maps. I made an ecuflash folder and save everything there.

i see all the roms that has been mess with. but just cant open them anymore. it says unknown rom file? than has 2 option to rewrite and something else. i can open ceddy fine. heres how it looks.

rom directory
C:/Users/tony/Desktop/EcuFlash/rommetadata/mitsubishi/eclipse/20550011.bin

rom meta is
C:/Users/tony/Desktop/EcuFlash/rommetadata/mitsubishi/eclipse

what is still missing from letting me open my own ecu map????

I have a question. I am using an H8 with ceddymod on my 96 GSX. In evoscan I don't know what to pick for logging.

Knock Sum 3E - For use on 95-97 Mitsubishi, it uses the 3E command to get the MUT reading
OR
Knock Sum - for use on 98+ Mitsubishi.

&

Coolant Temp - pre 97 Mitsubishi
OR
Coolant Temp Scaled - for use on 98+ Mitsubishi

I just don't know if it is going off of the ECU or the sensors. I would think I should be picking the 98+ options since that is the ECU I have.

Great, thanks for the fast reply. Now I can just log the one option on each instead of both and I wont be confused :D

I should be logging "Load 1Byte" correct? Just wasn't sure since evoscan says that it is only available if you are running a Tephra modified ECU.

If not "Load 1Byte" then what should I log?

EDIT:

Also, I am trying to use Evoscan 2.9, and am trying to use the Mitsubishi MUTII that comes with Ceddymod. I put in the the DataSettings but then it gives an error about duplicate ECU files. What should I do?

Did you flash it with the ceddymods rom before? If you did you should be able to open it fine. If your trying to open and edit your stock ECU you can't because there is no definition file for a Spyder ECU, you'll just have to rewrite with another rom ie: ceddymod...

2.9 is made to accommodate ceddy mods, there's no need to place that in the settings.

And PieEyed I'll mess around with that tonight or tomorrow(or both Haha)

Ok, good to know, now I can stop messing with trying to get it to accept it. And what about the Load 1byte setting in evoscan? Cause I have the 1byte load in ceddy on, but I am just wondering since the evoscan description says it is for something else, so if not load 1byte, what would I use?

Been trying to find in this thread I'm sure its,in the 1000+ posts somewhere. Lol but what do I need to do to use ecu flash in my 95 gst? I have a black box to use and I know I need the tactrix 2.0 but is there anything I need to do physically to my car? Or just plug in the black box ecu and hook the tactrix cable to laptop via usb and start using?

I just converted my 96 over to an H8. You need a 1g CAS. Though I am wondering if you really do. You need it since our cars have an inverted CAS signal, so converting to the 1g CAS fixes that, which fixes firing order, but I was confused on the issue and thought I needed to also re-order plug wires, but when I did it wouldn't start, so I set them back to stock firing order and it fired up, so you might not need the CAS. I already soldered mine in, so I'm now switching back to find out.

Is your black box from a turbo or from a spyder non-turbo?

Its, from 2.4l spyder non-turbo. 98 model on the hood, and vin said 98 I think? Forgot to check the door jam.

The cam sensor doesn't control spark though, just injector timing so what does firing order have to do with our inverted cam sensor?

Like I said, I was confused on the plug swapping thing, and still am since I apparently didn't need it.

Since you got an ecu from a non turbo you have to fix the fuel pump issue.

"98-99 Spyder Ecus are compatible Flash wise.
The only hardware difference with the Spyder Ecus, is the Fuel Pump Pin.
The Spyders output +5v to turn on the Fuel Pump Module.
While the DSM pull +12v to ground to turn on the Fuel Pump Relay."

H8 ECUs « ceddy.us

These are the part numbers:
('99)
2.0L Normally Aspirated auto trans - 05269834AK
2.0L Normally Aspirated manual trans - 05269833AK
2.0L AWD Turbocharged - MD359403
2.0L FWD Turbocharged - MD359402
2.4L SOHC w/Calif ECS - MD359404
2.4L SOHC w/o Calif ECS - MD359405

I don't know how you get it to work, I am sure it cant be that hard, but it might be easier to just get a turbo ECU, just depends on what you have available around you, or if you are up for the challenge.

So your saying in plug and play the fuel pump won't turn on? My pump is, rewired using a, relay back where the pump is. I can't remember how exactly I did all the wires to it but I can post a pic later. But my relay is now behind my passenger rear plastic siding and fuse is under the hood just before the battery.

So what your saying is the nt ecu outputs a 5v signal to the fuel pump relay? And turbo model ecu outputs 12v to the, relay? If I still had alldata this would be, easier LOL.

Trying to understand how your saying they both work. If I can understand correctly I can most deffinately come up with a solution no problem.
