Alright I've searched and read many build threads and such and all are not quite what I'm thinking of doing. I have the perfect opprotunity right now to get a clean 2g talon rolling chassis shell, and the time couldn't have been better because I'm just getting the eclipse put away for the winter next week. I have a 98' GST and was thinking about doing the awd swap but figured it would be much easier, cheaper, and quicker to just swap motors if I picked this talon up. My car has a 7 bolt motor and the fwd tranny, the talon is ready for a 6 bolt to be put in. My questions;

1. What else would I need aside from swapping the motor and my wiring harness into the talon shell?

2. Would my fwd tranny be okay to use for time being?

3. What other issues might I be looking at and faced with while doing this if I were to?

okay, so you're trying to swap the motor from your gst into the talon? i don't see why you are wanting to swap your wiring harness over?

I think you need to be more specific with your questions because I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking about.

He has a number of tannies, t cases, etc. the talon is a rolling shell right now just no motor or tanny. I'll post the ad he had on our local page this morning. I know I could get the shell for a steal as he's a good friend and just recently sold me his whole turbo set up for a great price. I'll attach all the photos I have of the talon so far, going to check it out tomorrow or Sunday.

Which car is in better condition? What kind of money are you looking to put into it? If you plan on putting a 6 bolt into the Talon why would you remove the engine out of your GST? I would just purchase a 6 bolt block and awd tranny for the Talon and leave the GST as is, that way you will still have both cars. Just my .02

I'm already building the 7 bolt so no need for a 6 bolt. The gst has dents all over it, been rear ended twice, has rust all underneath, and almost at 200k on the body, the talon only has rust in that one spot in the wheel well. I already have a dd so no need for 3 cars, most likely the gst will be a donor car to the talon for interior and some body parts and then scraped.

I would at least get all the drivetrain components. Then in spring if your gst body is in better shape you could convert it to awd. Edit: I didn't see your post till after I posted. I'd still get all the drive train components. Then you could just swap the motor and harness.

He has multiples of everything basically, trannies, transfer cases, driveshafts, etc. you name he most likely has. He has a 95 gsx that's a complete parts car as well so if I needed anything I could grab it from that. I was just assuming it would be easier to drop a motor and trans in an awd already rather then tearing everything off one and then putting it back together.

Yeah it should be a lot easier to just swap the motor and trans.

isn't a 2wd tranny and an awd tranny different? you couldn't run your gst tranny in the talon as awd as far as I know.

everyone I've talked to and this link as well says you need a tranny that yours can't be used

You cant use a FWD drive tranny to make it AWD but you can put in a FWD trans, remove the driveshaft and drive it as FWD. The OP said for the time being so i think he just wants to use the FWD temporarily until he gets all the AWD parts.

^Correct, was for time being but after talking with him he has numerous awd trans, clutches, blah blah blah so I think I'll golden doing the switch.

New info: Just talked with my buddy and final price for shell, trans, transfer case, and shafts....$1,000. Only thing he doesn't have is a 7bolt awd flywheel so looks to be the only thing i'll need to purchase to do the swap, pretty excited about this now.

Make sure that the trans and transfer case match. You can use 95-96 trans with 95-96 transfer case and 97-99 trans with with 97-99 transfer case. If you use a 95-96 trans with 97-99 transfer case or vice versa you will destroy the viscous coupler.

So, does your friend have any more awd trannys? I don't care what year it came from unless it is still a working one. I just need the case. The awd donor car for my swap has an ear broken off the case. If it is still working then I need a 95-96 one.

I'd be happy to ask, hes clearing out his barn and has a mountain of these parts and shells and is wanting everything gone. this is his photobucket for everything so far. I don't know how is about shipping but I'll ask and let you know
