Hey I put a thread up about this in the drive train forum but haven't had any luck , I've noticed on my auto in the morning when it's cold, the car pulls harder, like when I punch it at 10mph it drops down to low and really pulls and feels like it should but this is the ONLY time I can get the car to perform like that, any ideas? the transmission shifts kind of slow but runs fine ,

Not tranny related.

However, do a fluid+filter change if you feel it is shifting slow.

Its colder in the morning. The air is more dense so your car will feel faster.

Are you on the stock side mount? If so your more then likely heat soaking it once the day and your car heats up.

I bought a 97 GSX Auto without a motor a couple of months ago. The car came with the transmission that has been rebuilt (by AAMCO) 4,500 miles ago. I am building a 6-bolt for it right now with the following mods - Big 16g, HKS 264s, 3" Turbo Back Exhaust, DSMLink V3, VRSF FMIC, Ported 2g Manifold and O2 Housing. This will be a part time daily driver so I am keeping everything such as a/c, heat, cruise and power steering. I am looking for something around a 13.50 in the quarter mile. This will be a set up that will not change very much if any at all. I plan on getting a trans temp gauge, transmission cooler, new OEM filter and new fluid. Would you recommend a Translab Shift Kit and IPT End Clutch Kit for this setup?

I always recommend people do the end clutch kit. Not so much the trans lab shift kit. But I would recommend you do a shift box. Basically, you can switch gears by the press of a button. I have the Forced Four shift box and its fun, wires in with a switch so you can go back to the tcu controlling shifting.

I also ran a 13.9 on 17psi with a crap tune. Without the shift box. 13.5 shouldn't be hard. Make sure you get the launch down.

If the transmission has been rebuilt the end clutches should have already been replaced. The IPT end clutches aren't anything special, they are just replacement clutches.

On my hx40 auto Dsm with a 100% stock trans and cooler I've used a road surge shift box for about 15k miles ay arolpund 450hp and had no problems. I shiftetd it at 9500 rpms.

You don't need to upgrade anything to use this shift box.
I also recomend using Mobil 1 full synthetic atf. No addatives needed.

Improved performance as the power increases, Perfect for heavy duty vehicles or high stress applications. Kit includes all necessary seals and gaskets".

It was my understanding that this was an upgrade of the OEM end clutches. Also, the shift box sounds fun but its not exactly what I am looking for on this car. I honestly just want to be able to put the car in drive and go. I figured since the transmission is out of the car I should take care of these things now.

With the shift box it has two settings so with a flip of a swich you can either be in stock mode where you put it in drive and go , doth the stock comfortable shifting or you can do to full standalone mode where it goes in to full line pressure and you can shift when ever you want.

I didn't tap anything I put the sensor into a t-fitting on the cooler return line.

That's what you'd want to know, the temp of the fluid going into the trans after passing through the cooler. Otherwise you'd always be seeing a high temp.

Look at it like this, where is your coolant temp sensor at that you read to see if your motor is running hot at? Is it by pump or by the return?

I have an adapter to put it in my oil cooler line as well.

I understand what you mean J heath, But It also makes sense the other way. Isnt the point of the temp gauge is to see if your running hot? If its after the cooler then youll only see a cold reading, and not what the trans is actually at.

Slo rice do you have the temp fitting on feed or return for cooler?

The fluid leaving the transmisson will always be hot and the fluid going to it will always be colder from the cooler. But becaue its from the cooler and heading to the transmission you should be more worried if ITS hot.

So iv looked into things for modding (blue wire mod ect..) but has anyone ever taken these mods that use switches and made a way to use buttons? I know road surge does but you pay for it a little bit. Also what about any mod that can use the stock shifter?

Exactly my point, thank you for better explaining that.

As far as buttons/switches for shifting, I've seen it on forums before. I've seen 2G guys use the buttons on the steering wheel like paddle shifters. Also I've seen where people modify the stock shifter to use like a ratchet shifter where it "clicks" into gears. If you know what I'm talking about.

I highly suggest just installing a ratchet shifter. Best mod as far as my trans goes that I've done.

Its fun going down the track banging gears and not dropping any boost.

Mine is on the return line from the cooler. That's the line pretty much everyone puts it on. So it allows you to compare temps with other people.

Alrighty guys another question.

I want to do a complete tranny flush. Whats the best way to do this?

Can I stick the cooler inlet line in clean fluid then stick the outlet in a bucket and wait until the fluid gets clean?

Also what fluid are you guys running. This is a DD and will see the track maybe 3 times this year.

bg makes a beautiful machine for this.. uses a bladder inside a tank to flush.. new fluid in tank with bladder on the inside. old fluid fills bladder and pushes new fluid in. the input from trans has a clear glass that you can see the fluid and watch it get cleaner. then you pull pan and change filter and fluid.. thats how ive always done it.

my 95 gst would spool all the boost i wanted on an hx35 stock engine no problems.. i could get all the rpm out of it i wanted but i would just spin tires. currently the car is going to awd and im building the trans with the end clutch kit, front clutches, and shift box. i will be wiring the "paddle shifters" to my cruise control paddle. as for the pull back on the paddle will be my line lock. even more i will be able to switch back to my cruise control with a flip of a switch and it will work normally. my car hit 12.9 burning tires off at 17 psi and 120 mph fwd. stock trans with shift kit. stock engine with hx35 and injectors.. 60ft times were 2.2 LOL. autos are the way to go i think. so much you can do

also i think i saw a knob somewhere, (variable resistor) that you can use to control your line pressure.. maybe from IPT
